I think they can find a middle ground with Marvel if they work with it. Disney is a bitch, but they’ve deal with bitch shit before and came out with Marvel 3 and Tatsunoko. Tatsunoko is notorious for licensing also.

Marvel working with Capcom? I doubt it. That bridge has been burned

With the rumors I’ve been hearing, bridges don’t seem quite burned and Marvel vs Capcom has always proved that nothing stops it from coming back.

I’m more inclined to believe the rumors of NRS working with Marvel tbh.

It’s possible, but if it ain’t crack I ain’t playing.

Actually, them going to Marvel would make near 0 sense as DC would not want to give up what they’re getting from WB and NRS. They would need a complete falling out for NRS to get into Marvel. DC won’t just let that happen.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney would prefer a western dev though. There are a few that could handle it, maybe.

You can talk about the strength of the MvC brand, but the last two titles couldn’t crack a million sales without a lot of time and help.

That’s the thing. I don’t think sales ever completely dictate whether these guys want to make a game or not. Very rarely do sales correlate to what fighting game IP a company wants to sequel or resurrect from the dead. They still were pressed to make MVCI despite Marvel 3…soooo they’ll find a way to be pressed to do it again. Slap it on with some PR about we’re sorry about what happened with Infinite and there ya go.

Or, that was their attempt to make it work again… and it failed… again.

(Yes I know that Einstein said it first)

It’s not really insanity for Capcom since if they get it right it’s going to sell and like SF they have a surefire niche audience that wants crack. It’s still more trouble for them to bring back Mega Man (a next gen one any way) or Darkstalkers than Marvel even with licensing considered.

They already brought mega man back twice… and I’m confident it was less expensive.

Besides, lack of budget was one of the biggest problem with MvC:I. It would be hard to convince the people that hold the purse strings that the issue was “we didn’t throw enough money at it the first two times”.

Also, if I’m Disney, I’m probably not looking to a fighting game for my brand.

Maybe it will happen, maybe Capcom will be involved. But I see a lot of hurdles for a long while.

Well there hasn’t been any ACTUAL bringing Mega Man back. Like how Sonic Mania really counts more as rehashing OG Sonic than bringing Sonic into a new life that can carry on like 3D Mario games of present.

Well if you’re Disney you sure DID look at a fighting game and they’ll probably do it again with the right convincing, talking.

That’s the point of Marvel vs Capcom. It has proven that it fights hurdles to come about. Marvel 3, UMVC3, Tatsunoko and MVCI all fought through hurdles and things that were said that couldn’t be done to come to be. VS licensing/funding/production is a bitch, but they find a way.

I disagree. NRS and DC are both owned by WB. That is a much bigger minefield to navigate.

If anyone can navigate that, its Boon.

… I’m not sure this statement makes sense. Doing a direct sequel doesn’t count as “bringing it back”?

By that logic nothing has ever been brought back?

Exactly, and it failed hard and publicly. The failure of MvC:I makes t even harder for something new to happen.

Not impossible. But this is business, there are now two proven strikes against MvC. It would need to be a lot of convincing.

Think about the history. MvC3 was a follow up to a very successful game. It had some licensing hurdles, but the past made it look bright. Then UMvC3 (and MvC3 on the whole) underperformed badly.

They comeback, Disney approves based on the legacy. However, they want the cinematic universe tie in, and Capcom wants to keep costs down to minimize risk. And the game underperforms again.

What do you come to the next negotiation with? We want more money? I think realistically the series is on ice until more time has passed.

How exactly would they pitch a new MvC to the executives of each company? Especially after the colossal fail of MvCI. Not to mention all the hurdles they had to go through in order for that game to come out in the first place. I dont see them in a hurry to make a new one.

I don’t see Disney licensing Marvel properties their direct competitor.

Considering MM11 did well and they’re looking at releasing a live action movie of the Blue Bomber, I’d say he is already back.

Also, MVC3 didn’t underperform. UMVC3 did because it was released the same yr. They beat their expectations (2 million projection) for Vanilla by selling 2.2 million in a few months

I dont see why not if it brings them profit, these people only care about money. From what I’ve read, a DC vs Marvel isnt as far fetched as it used to be. But we’ll see what the future brings us.

Correct this is even less likely. There no chance that WB will try to license the property of their competitor in that way.

Besides, injustice already mops the floor with marvel in sales anyways. They have no motivation.

At this point it’s only a matter of months before they buy Warner as well anyway.

Heck I’m pretty sure that in five years even my toilet paper will have a Disney logo on it. On the plus side it will feel really good to wipe my butt with that greedy mouse.
