Remember when anti-monopoly laws meant something? Pepperidge Farms remembers…
Apple been going hard in the paint for a long time too.
If you count specifically open access PC/gaming software market there really is only Microsoft. It’s not like Steam is an Apple thing.
Yeah… Disney isn’t anywhere near a monopoly.
They only capture as much as 1/3 of the box office in a given year and even less on TV. And that’s still the prediction for after the merger.
They may not be a monopoly, but they’ll easily swallow up some shit that you liked watching or playing and make it feel that way.
One third of the box office for one single company is as close to a monopoly as you get without being part of the word’s definition.
That’s a ridiculous percentage.
They are the biggest game in town that’s for sure, about double the market share of universal (the runner up).
My point was, how something feels and how it is… don’t match up all the time.
Plenty of industries have much more significant market leaders than entertainment.
Microsoft famously almost owns the computer OS and office productivity worlds.
Pretty much. If you work in an office or use steam you got to have a Microsoft computer in front of you.
It isn’t just about Disney. We are basically down to 3 movie studios at this point. It isn’t just about movies it is industry in general. The consolidation of corporations makes collusion and price fixing a far easier task.
Operating system.
Computers themselves have more variety, though I believe Foxconn is pretty ridiculous.
The important part of anti-trust is that the market share is big enough to strangle our competition. Disney is not in any position to stop universal from conducting business.
That might be true but is also just straight whataboutism and doesn’t take anything away from the fact that Disney has grown questionably big.
There’s a difference there, but it’s going to mostly have Microsoft on it for the most part. Maybe if you’re in IT you’re dealing with Linux or something occasionally.
Universal, paramount, Disney, Columbia, Warner brothers (five), only control about 80% of the market combined.
That’s a weak ass oligarchy.
This is even weaker when you consider that movies (theatre) is a declining segment in the entertainment world.
Disney is big yes, but throwing around the term monopoly is not accurate.
It is not whataboutism. I didn’t say it’s okay because others are big nor direct attention away from their (large) market share. I stated that Disney does not own a remotely controlling portion of their market and therefore is not a monopoly.
The top 3 studios control 70% of the market. Paramount’s market share is in the single digits. They’ll probably be gobbled up by one of the other Big 3 soon.
Yes, but it’s still not even a strong oligarchy, much less a full on monopoly.
I would save the monopoly fears for another industry. Like utilities (in the US anyways)
I’ve been watching a lot of Sub Zero gameplay , as he is the character that interests me if i get this game.
Man…his overhead 50/50 seems very good,i wonder if they gonna nerf that shit.
50/50 and NRS games are one and the same.
Do you just mean the jail into his overhead or low starter?
Got no clue how it’s called.
The blue axe thingy.Almost all his stuff i keep seeing starts from that thing.
