Its the trick we all tell ourselves that oh XYZ is reactable.
No its not, you might react sometimes, you might be a dumb bitch getting hit by it other times.
Ever get hit by a jumpin? that’s like a 50 frame overhead why didn’t you react!!!

an hop is not 50 frames though.
I don’t think I have ever been hit by a jump in unless I was in recovery or I misread a cross-up or I got CH for mistiming a button (too early or too late, had em both).
I am old, but not that old.
…yet
On a side not I am going to throw a fuckton of money at my local UNIQLO shop this weekend, not only they have the SF stuff, they also have MHW stuff
I’m getting the Zeku and Cammy t-shirts. Those are nice.
Well it’s not like anybody needs to tell Dime he’s wrong any more but I’ll throw 2cents into the pot just cause I’ve had this discussion with him a lot of times.
Reactions are important for sure, but unless you are a literal zombie and have 350ms+ reactions you have the ability to play FGs at a high level.
See, thing is Dime makes it sound like a red light/green light scenario. For instance back when I asked everyone to test their general reaction times on that Internet test, we all acknowledged it wasn’t an actual indicator of our ability to react to things ingame because the stimulus was incredibly simple - allowing us to react much faster than we would be able to with a reactive stimulus in the game. But, reactions in game aren’t about the statistic you get on a reaction test - it’s about awareness of options.
Just being able to predict or anticipate things the opponent will do will cut your reflex for it down dramatically, a lot of the top players know the character matchups to a T, and thus know the popular option pool for a lot of scenarios. This let’s them premediate their responses a hell of a lot quicker than the average online player who has a little more of a shallow understanding of what’s happening during a match.
Reflexes aren’t king for sure, it’s 100% game knowledge coming out on top. Because reactions aren’t useful if you don’t know what you’re reacting to in the first place. The top 5% of players are probably coming down to possible genetics, although looking at Tokido’s work ethic he without a doubt trains his mind and reflexes daily. But I don’t think that disqualifies any average joe from winning an event, without having some shaolin monk esque training routine. Daigo is one of the best exhibits of reflexes not meaning shit, he’s outright said he’s not as strong with his reflexes any more and things like Guile crlp help him out a lot. He found ways around reflexes and is still one of the best in the world.
Yet I sucked at that too, so some indication for sure.
there’s also this shit, I am not sure if they’re postcard or posters
Startup frames in a reaction discussion only tell half the story. We all remember Nash’s S1 dash which consisted of him standing on the spot for a couple of frames and then almost teleporting forward. If you can’t visually identify every animation frame, you have to cut off those frames from the timeframe you have to react.
Yeah forgot to mention that too. Happens in SCVI a lot too, muscle buster was 22f which is around reactable, but the animation is so subtle it’s around 16 reactive frames.
22f is not reactable, stop lying to me!
Yes.
Take for example, DP-ing jumping opponents is my greatest weakness and my friends told me that DP-ing isn’t entirely about reactions.
It’s about being situationally aware of your opponents options and being able to predict and anticipate what he or she is going to do.
Good reactions is a good attribute to have but it isn’t the be all end all.
Caught some of early top 8, missed the rest and caught grand finals. Was a fun watch. Figured Problem X would adapt and run through. Very defensive, but knows when to go in and has too many setups with VT2. Very fun to watch him. Terrence is always a great watch too especially since Chun is a character that can do a lot of things and can go from mid range to offense really fast. He still keeps dropping counter hit f+MP confirms in places I wouldn’t expect him too, but tournament nerves and such can happen.
I was checking out the top Chuns on CFN
Terrence is number 2. I’ve played a lot of ranked matches and strangely have never run into him online. I’ll look out for his CFN.
Naga is really good also. Very aggressive Chun and just kinda goes in once he smells blood and won’t let off until either he wins with you in the corner or you space him out. Chunation is basically a scrubbier version of Naga that’s easier to beat and complains a lot more on his streams lol.
SFV DDM is actually the Chun that gives me the hardest time. He’s very slow, mid rangey Chun that’ll just press s.HK at me at like real perfect angles. Very good defensive reactions also so it’s a bitch to open him up. He usually just runs casual match but I’m sure gets in ranked sometimes too. Think he’s a CFN Warrior and probably just goes to his locals as I can’t find any offline footage of him on Youtube.
I think Darklight got master and then just said fuck this I’m out lmfao
Chun struggle bus
I’m doing the same with Falke for now because she’s too honest to solo ranked. The other top Falkes aren’t really ranked too much higher. Even Aobara can’t really get much past 30K and I’ve been watching him long before I got to master. There’s a few matchups like Boxer and Fang that are way into auto loss territory unless you get lucky.
I’ll just do another grind for a while on my PS4 account then run back up solo Falke on PC (possibly when I get another PC) later to GM or whatever.
I started playin ranked again gimme a week if I play daily I should be master by Friday then I’m away for the weekend
Then every time I say somethin ima preface it with it “well in my master Cody opinion”
Remember to tell your father to work on his grind also. Don’t wanna see him in Diamond still next month.
more proof that frenchmen have shit taste and are stinky in general
isnt it the first official event for the doa6 world tour too like with tekken?
kinda surprised about the numbers.
Although I somewhat dislike the heavy emphasis on reaction/pre emptive strike nature of sf5, I have to agree (like some have already pointed out here) that a lot of sf5 reactions is down is really down to factors which you can improve on and control such as anticipation, footsies, knowledge of opponents playstyle/tendencies, and lastly matchup knowledge. Knowing the opponents options from any range, standing outside the spot of furthest unreactable move and anticipating the reactable ones. Anticipating the move and discerning to the early frames of the move from others is also something you train the dojo. Lastly eyeballing the visual cue of the red and grey spark of the hitstun /blockstun, is also a matter of practise. When meatying the opponents and half expecting them to be pressing button helps. But it might mean dropping a light confirm or tick throw.
In regards to one hit confirming, some like Ken’s Cr mk or y zekus St hp are do able for everyone (meaning it’s part and parcel of your gameplay and something you shouldn’t drop), but raw confirming karin’s Cr mk is another (something I doubt capcom expect you to be able raw hit confirm and even pros will occasionaly will drop) is something only a small echelon of highly drilled players can muster, there isn’t a high variation in human reaction times, the majority of people have a very similar baseline (15 frames in SF term, 11 frames for twitch reactions). almost all of us can react in around 16 frames and 11 frames for twitch reactions… And capcom does give you tools to supplant reaction “deficiency”, etc, safely confirm with a fireball or another special. It’s exactly what Karin’s vt1 is for.
High level Gief is a true joy to watch.
I can’t believe Dime used science as an excuse of why he sucks.
You can certainly improve your reactiontime, I catch myself reacting to things in BB I never was able to react to before, like Mais 5XCB or even Nus Swords.
If anything science proves that Dime is full of shit and just wants to have a good excuse why he sucks.
And now shake hands with science, while we’re at it.
