Ken’s vt2 might be a little better, but it requires really tight play with hit confirms. Just the prospect of getting 3 beefy hit confirms off of a low forward per round is nothing to sleep on
Wish it did more damage though, taking into account it’s completely gone once you use it and you actually have to think in order for it to land. No yolo v trig activation into winning neutral with this one. The most honest v trigger in the game
What i noticed about Kage the most, is that he is such a boring character. His gameplan is very obvious, very straight forward and is gonna be very repetitive, and probably effective. Slap on a couple of setups in VT and call it a day.
But i guess boring people need characters to play.
But seriously as an ex chun player… that’s kinda funny since most of what chun wants to do is press st.hp 50 times a match if she can get away with it.
Kage uses lots of his toolset. Every stomp version has a specific use, all his red fireballs have a specific use, charging and not charging v skill has a use. Dive kicking or not dive kicking is a thing, using air fireball to bait jumpins is a thing.
I could go on and on about all the different meaty setups he has and different versions of pressure he has. But I’ll just be arguing with someone that clearly is biased.
To me kage is one of the mos fun characters capcom have yet made in sf5.
Spamming st.HP 50 times is what S1 Chun would do, which isn’t viable anymore.
Chun have cr.MK confirms, F.MP CH confirms, using air legs in the neutral to hop over pokes. Have an interesting fireball , No brain dead go to anti air since you use st.LK, B.HK, J.HP, cr.MP , air throw, etc,etc
She actually plays neutral with tools to whiff punish stuff like EX legs and st.Hp xx VTC or CA. Have a CA that can be used in the neutral and not just a combo filler. She have two interesting VTs that play differently.
You do shit with Chun, you adapt, you think.
Kage is just Necalli 2.0, people will play him for a bit then get bored and move on. He is strong and is effective, heck Necalli may actually be more interesting since he have some sesimo zoning and a command grab and you get to dunk people.
shoto design is generally more flexible in application than Gat, who’s a little more on the slow/defensive end.
His red fireball being at 51f is a 4f difference to Ryus S1/S2/S3 fireball, so he can still play that game if he wants. He can bait jumps by inputting the regular fireball instead of red, cr.mk walkdown game is solid. But I just tag any shotokan derived character as a shoto.
If you like strong walkdown game in tradeoff for a slightly weaker fireball game, Kage is ya man.
Yeah, I’d like to see v-skills building a ton more meter. G’s is good, so you’re conscious about not filling his v-gauge, but with Ryu or Nash or Akuma you can throw nineteen fireballs and only then stop to think “hold on, if I throw another he’ll have built an entire v-bar”.
On another note, Capcom is definitely hustling with season characters this year. The bundle will come next December, just like costumes, just like exclusive one-time offers, just like how two CPT '17 costumes were sold separately then bundled together with a stage two days later with no refunds for early buyers.
the last thing the game needs is more v-meter injected into it. They just made a good balancing decision in lowering the amount of v-meter neutral button CCs add to your meter.
