I want the F2P version released as the norm in parallell with a seasion zero pass, which is basically what SFV could have been for the start and the natural evolution of SFV business model, which IMO is great. People like me who realistically not ever going to bother with more than half of the characters just pays for the three ones they’re going to play and casual player gets the season and extra goodies like arcade or story mode. Everybody wins.
They made a better Arcade Mode, something they were already decent at. Where they 100% failed was the Story Mode, which is all anyone talked about them having. Also, the quote you pulled up had me mentioning they should just keep the Arcade Mode offerings.
And congrats, you found joy in the characters and “story development” (even though literally the only character in the entire farce you’d call a story that got development is Rashid) but many people called it out on the lazy piece of trash it was. The story was garbage, just trying to find reasons to plug as many characters in without rhyme or reason, the gameplay of the story was even worse. It was a waste of time for pretty much most involved.
SF Lore is at its best when it’s told in piecemeal and leaving the rest to the player’s imagination. SF Lore is not something that’s meant to be told in a “grand story” with everything laid out piece by piece. As we saw, it tends to fall apart REALLY quickly because half the characters have no connection to the over arching story. Which is why Arcade Mode, and only Arcade Mode, is where it’s at its best. It’s much easier to tell short, individual stories with merit rather than trying to glue characters together that have nothing to do with each other and Capcom has at least shown they can still do proper Arcade Mode stuff. Story Mode needs to stay gone.
If I had creative control at Capcom for a few years I’d do the following:
Make a classic style SF game: Graphics like GG Xrd, with longer range pokes, and decent pushback on hit and block. Few combos. Most combos would be one or two hits before going into a special/super. Most non-EX specials are unsafe on block, but give you decent damage on hit and a slightly advantageous position. Most Ex specials are safe on block (but have a lot of pushback) and give you better oki and damage on hit. Zoning to be stronger with few neutral bypass moves. Chips can kill, but bring back parries. Dashes have a bit of recovery and are easier to react to, but allow dash-cancels into special moves. More airtime for jumps so they’re easier to react to as well. Fast walk speed for everyone. No CC’s. Keep priority system though, and unique normals (no proximity moves).
Then release a new MVC game with crazy combos and airdashes for all. Build it on a similar graphics engine and bring in 60+ characters including X-Men. Give us massive beams and crazy mixups.
Give both games good SP content at launch. Season passes with new characters, stages, and balance changes every year and keep supporting the games for at least five years.
Make sure both have great net codes and listen and communicate with the community.
Garbage to you. Many people disagree with you as a second General Story is one of the single most requested features for SF5.
Okay then, I’ll leave it to you. Tell me why the SF5 Story is such a great step in the right direction that fans are desperately clamoring for a followup.
SFV story was basically Karin & friends.
But it was better then what we had in the past. Not enough Juri though,so Capcom needs to work on that.
They don’t need to challenge other fighters. They need to have a respectable amount of content in their game on release for their own good. Simply going with the bare minimum will not entice people to buy the game; especially after SFV got the amount of heat it did for its lack of content.
People that are fine with just fighting others will buy the game. Those who make up the majority of sells (Casuals) will absolutely need a worthwhile amount of content to buy the game. The CEO of Capcom even acknowledged the importance of having their games filled with content right from the get go to avoid unnecessary pitfalls. It’s only okay if they’re fine with reaching their sales projection about a yr or so after release.
NRS was a laughing stock when it came to female faces, but they were still raking in the $$ regardless. They could’ve just said, “Well, we suck at that, so let’s just focus on other areas”, but instead, we see them vastly improve in this area in Injustice 2. If Capcom decides to give up on the possibility of packing their game with great content, that’s ass-backwards.
I’m not trying to convince of anything, art is subjective. If you never appreciated the SF story in all its silliness and symbolism before, you sure as well won’t enjoy SF5’s offering.
SF5 compared to its predecessors made strides in ensuring that the narrative is complete, coherent, and faithful. These are things the casual fan of the SF story will not realize immediately, but there was a fan’s attention to detail and care invested in weaving together the SF5 stories. More than ever before in the history of the franchise.
Capcom did good and I look forward to further progress in this area. As do many others.
Alright fine, I can see I’m in the wrong here so I’ll take the L.
All of the Street Fighters jumped out of an airborne helicopter, about 1000 feet in the air, with no parachutes, Birdie was the only person with sense not to jump but he was forcibly pushed out, to assault a private Military base with a battalion of psycho powered mercenaries using only hand to hand combat.
I agree, that’s is some top notch storytelling.
Bravo, Capcom.
Capcom needs all the single player goodies that casuals like. We all remember the run up to this game they kept saying want to make the game accessible and all that. And that’s fine but you know what those casuals really want? Single player content, all the things you see in nrs games or soul caliber. On the PS4 trophies list only 2% got gold in sfv. On Tekken 7 only 23% got the trophy for winning their first ranked match. The real money is in selling to the casual fans and I couldn’t imagine being one of those people and installing sfv and seeing what was offered at launch. And someone mentioned the stench on this game and it’s still their I remember a thread somewhere not fgc related and their was a sfv thread the way people spoke you would think this game killed their dog lol.
Spoiler, it isn’t.
SF Story is bad and so was the Story mode.
If you remove all the shading, the Models from xrd don’t look that great.
They look really simple to be honest.
Promps to ASW to make them look that good.
Now you get the slap on the backhead for suggesting this.
The graphics look good, but the animations look stiff. Because of the Gatlings most chars look like they have hiccups during their moves.
I think Ram is the only one who isn’t affected by this, since she doesn’t use Gatlings for her Combos.
Also your ideas for the next SF sound terrible, I’m glad you’re not an director there.
While good netcode is appreciated, the last thing they should do is listen a lot to the community.
Capcoms incompetence will just make them listen to the worst camp, with the loudest voice and we will have a giant clusterfuck in the game.
Balance the game around the Tournaments first and formest, DON’T TOUCH TOP/HIGH TIERS (unless they have something absolutly broken) and just buff whats below them.
Thats something they might had in mind as they planned the game (see their panel) but quickly abandonned, cause swinging the Nerfhammer around is easier.
Also MvC can stay dead and make place for DBFZ in it’s grave.
There’s a discord channel but it’s slightly underused at the moment. I’ll send you the link
Late to the convo, but for SF6 i want it to be a combination of 4 and 5. I like 5’s simplicity (3f buffer, simpler motions, etc), but I like that characters in 4 are more well rounded.
But besides that the only things I really want in SF6 are for them to dial back the comeback mechanic(s). VT started off as a better alternative to Ultra’s but now a few years in they are just as bad. I know it won’t totally disappear but it would be nice if whatever equivalent they have in SF6 wasn’t character defining.
I can take or leave anything else, though I expect 6 to be much more defensive than 5.
Juri pretty much trolled Cammy the entire time. I found it entertaining.
This is how SF6 needs to be presented even if it’s f2p:
- Netcode equivalent to KI
- Arcade mode that doesn’t feel like a lazy tack on
- Online training mode
- All of the features the current training mode has
- Refined CFN (It’s in a decent state now but if they really want that to be the FB of the SF IP they need to make it more streamlined)
- Better DLC practices. IMO bundle customization is something this game needs with all the outfits SFV cranks out
- A much stronger SP experience (It doesn’t have to be an epic story mode but a weapon master mode could be great for something fun and challenging that isn’t the typical arcade gauntlet) (This would also ensure that even if there is some over arching narrative that the Saturday morning tier writing won’t feel completely out of place)
(This would also include staples like Survival, Time Attack etc etc)
-More casual focused game modes that allow both shitters and competitive to enjoy. I feel like having some sorta of Puzzle Fighter/Candy Crush type games with the SF characters could be way to keep player retention high due to lore players or people who like SF just for the characters and setting to get something out of it.
-Strong UI (SFV lacks this for the sake of “Esports” but honestly SF4 killed it in that regard)
-Lobby System akin to something for an Arcsystem Works game. (Cute chibi Cammy’s and Rashids running around on some map overworld would be so fucking sick)
Outside of that I’ll probably shill for SF6 even if there’s some new mechanic where lights have priority over heavy buttons and they do 60% into TOD or whatever. I don’t know shit about game balance.
Also bring back Kolin heh
I don’t see the issue. SFA3 had Captain Ginyu Bison and his Super Sentai Buddha statue featuring eye lasers. SFV was tame by comparison. RIP Rashid’s friend and Marz the Laptop Doll.
I definitely want Kolin and the popular newcomers from 5 in the next game. I don’t want it to be 5-10 years before we see some of these characters again after their debut. Especially since we have characters like Ibuki or who have been in the last 3 games.
Of course like 5 i want 6 to have its share of newcomers.
I don’t think Kolin is going to be in SF6 and I know that if she does she’ll be different. Which I’m okay with because most of the cast in SFV works because of the system rather than being good outside of it.
Also while I do agree with Daemos about the story being a nice serving for the fans IMO for me it was hot fucking garbage and I was bored by the 1 hour mark. They made Necalli a cuck, it mostly was about Karin assembling the Avengers, Bison was doing typical mustache twirling bad guy shit, Fang was a Saturday morning cartoon, Juri can use her bike to travel over water and Raiyou used the power of friendship to beat Bison which basically cucked Nash’s story purpose.
The only things I liked from it were that:
- Decapre isn’t a cunt anymore
- It made me like a character I hate fighting against (Rashid)
- Urien cameo was coo
- It gave me Kolin
So basically 10/10 will play again.
WTF? What franchise do you think you are playing? I can cite countless of ridiculous examples of SF/Capcom’s campiness and eccentricity from well before SF5. This is not Metal Gear, nor are we trying to be. SF5’s colorful story is faithful to the source material and its characterizations more times than not. If you don’t see the charm in all of it, then the SF story is and has always been lost on you.
