I don’t remember seeing those posts but they must have been drunk.
Twitter I’m sure that was going on.

Twitter I’m sure that was going on.
It was the usual over hyping. Plus Twitter seemed to be exclusively a Kage combo video for the first three days.
Only post I remember seeing here that resembled “Kage is top tier” is Frost saying he was around top 10 and the bottom of top 10 still isn’t top tier. At least it wasn’t last season. I would personally vouch that he is the strongest DLC to come out in a while and with work put in him nearing the bottom of top 10 isn’t unrealistic.
Kage is in a good spot because he has something that the S3 DLC’s were missing. Top tier meta things plus strong things that aren’t common in the meta like double covering wake up stuff, standing bnbs that reset pressure, combos into weird things like his raging demon and c.MK fireball confirming from max range. Having stuff that’s good outside of what Capcom normally allows you to have is a big deal.
Imagine my surprise when I tune into smugs stream just in time to see him playing against the Legendary Twinblades. Before long he’ll be a sponsored player competing in tournaments.
I respect Smug mashing v trigger out of a bad block string Twin was doing and then labeling as v trigger whiff punishing LOL. Gotta sell the stream. I’m sure he probably actually does it sometimes, though because of the frames you have to wait you basically have to do it really early on their normal to make it realistic.
Missed this coming through. I should be around for games over the next few days.
Also I have that same muscle memory/reaction thing but with Akuma. The upwards motion of his F+HP tricks me into AA’ing which leads to a fat CH combo. I lost an entire set to just that dumb reaction. x(
Ranked has been going okay actually. I don’t play Ranked too often - it stresses me out and I have enough ambient stress nowadays so I usually stick to Casual matches to not get too rusty and BL whenever I can. I do need to dip into Ranked more often though; a special kind of crazy resides there and it is a weird but good practice trying to corral it.
Ranked runs are very often hot and cold. Yesterday before I tapped out to play Akhos I was flailing and failing but today I managed to not only make back everything I lost yesterday but come out just a bit ahead. Granted a chunk of that are Kages who barely know what they’re doing but hey I’ll take it.
I’m definitely debating a character switch this season. It honestly has nothing to do with Laura’s efficacy: the S4 buffs for her and nerfs for everyone else I think will land her in a pretty decent spot overall and anyhow she is more than fine enough to online warrior the way all the way up to Warlord, so long as you want to stick with her (see: the mile long trail of Ranked bodies Idom had behind him in S3 when shit was more grim for her).
A big part of it is an internal debate I’ve had for awhile now. I’m not sure how much I necessarily like playing grapplers generally and specifically in this game. I’ve only ever really played grapplers - Gief then Mika then Laura - so I’m curious as to if I would like a character that maybe didn’t have as much payoff for closing but also didn’t so desperately need to close the distance.
And part of that is just that I’m not sure how great a fit Laura is for me long term (for as long a term may be in the rest of SF5). I love her pressure and how quickly she can melt someone but I hate her stubby buttons and sometimes I feel like I’m naturally too conservative with command grabs to have her really sing for me (one of the main reasons I didn’t cycle back to Mika last season even though she was the stronger large chested grappler lady).
Plus there I feel like a big strength of the character are running her set ups and mix ups and I’m lukewarm on that kind of stuff. She is sort of tech heavy that way which I actually love from a learning perspective but is definitely something I could do better about.
So I’m asking myself if it just isn’t better - not necessarily for W/L but for personal enjoyment - to switch to someone that more naturally plays the way I want a character to. Current front runners are Birdie (staying in the command grab sphere) and Kolin (abandoning the command grab entirely).
Once I get done collecting these scalps for the final CPT mission I want to spend a chunk of time working on and giving those characters a legit shot and see where I want to go next year. I may end up playing someone totally new in S4, or I may decide that Laura really is the one for me. I figure now is as good a time to try as any.
So if you want to play against a shitty Kolin or what will probably be a hilariously shitty Birdie in the next few weeks, I’ll be around.
Smug dropped a new single during his stream as well.
out of all characters in this game
I don’t think I’ll ever learn how to fight against Mika
I just… don’t understand how to fight her! ;_;
Zone the fuck out of her if you can. Basically run away. I find most Mikas by now have mastered the coin flips, but they still don’t have a neutral outside of charge HK or jump.
That was actually pretty catchy lol
I think he has potential to be top 5, and would be surprised if not at least top 10 this season.
Just wait till the setplay is figured and fleshed out
Remember when we were all underwhelmed by ibuki?
Did they buff Rog?
People over reacting to the DBFZ thing its not gonna be anything in the end. One low attendance dreamhack, evo japan, now some anime tournament. Nobody else got hassled like NEC went off without a hitch zero issues.
Its one of two things 1) some really weird powerplay on toei’s end 2) utter corporate incompetence on the japanese end(more likely option imo)
Effectively there is zero way for Toei to do shit thats enforceable on any level and they can’t actually stop anything even if they wanted to try their god damndest to shut it all down. Its certainly not them trying to “shut down” their most popular dragon ball title in the face of xenoverse 3, especially since dbfz and xenoverse 2 have already been co promoted with each other non stop so far.
I think they buffed ex dash straight even further lol
Like they took his dumbest move and made it dumber, combos into tc on hit AFTER he cancels it into that derpy v skill dash
He def has the potential, I feel like though the over all power of the TT has been toned down to a decent level.
That’s what it is.
Oh, Rog’s cr.mp is 6 frames and +2 on block. Why wouldn’t it be. Forgot that. Good show.
Hi mocha!
So I tested out kens ex air tatsu finally, for the most part it seems to be -1 on block and zero when vt1 is active. -4/-5 happens once every 10 tries, which makes me suspect it as a unintended glitch.
balrog is kewl i wish his vt2 was better
I’m definitely not a fan of the game, but even I figured it was a bit of overreacting. Reminds me a lot of the season 1 SFV doom and gloom just because things are being said and reported. Also somewhat relatable to the evo melee fiasco. Mr.Wiz and gang hyping this shit up is lame. This talking too soon of doom and gloom when you run one of the biggest things that keeps a game alive competitively is not cool. The next World Evo usually doesn’t even get talked about until like a month from now.
I believed in the ninja from day one. Once I saw that her post combo oki basically broke the standard oki rules of the game I knew she could only go up. Luckily Mika also had broken set play so she went under the radar until S2 buffs.
