SFV Lounge: Menat BUFFED, F2P SFV coming, CCCC COMBO BREAKERS coming

Team fourstar guys have issue with toei like basically once a year like clockwork. Some office chimp basically threatens their channel with shutdown and they get it resolved and its a “oh it will never happen ever again” until it happens again next year. Its basically holiday tradition at this point cause Toei is a poorly run company and would probably sink without licenses like DBZ propping it up.

Yeah licensing has plagued Capcom vs games for a long time so it’s funny that a vs style game that only has one IP in it is going through this crap also. Marvels 2 through Infinite and Tatsunoko have all fallen victim in some way to the license monster.

This is also what Street Fighter V does to your play:

Don’t get complacent on defense. Be ready to back dash or jump from grabs. It’s down to the Mika player with how often they mix normals into the mixup. AA! Your life literally depends on it. Don’t let Mika get jumps for free and punish the splats as hard as possible. Also smack her for doing drop kicks. They’re so easy to stop, don’t block that shit and give her an easy in.

Why am I having close games with Ryu when I use Kage THIS CAN’T BE POSSIBLE WHY DID THEY BUFF RYU DAMN IT.

Still won though, those VT2 set-ups are legit, except I can’t get VT2 on hit, dash up whiff stlp > hadou online…everything else I found feels easier

Edit: Capcom still sucks tho

Rollback giveth, rollback taketh away.

I called akuma being top when he first came out. I’m seeing basically the same thing with kage.

Though in Kages case I think he may stay out of top 3 for the simple fact of his shit footsies.

But lots of other shit footsies characters have been in games where they were good. At the end of the day, once people start to feel his mixup and damage, they will start to play different which will allow him to get his stuff off better. Happened with ibuki where I lost the majority of my first 2 months of matches till the tech started to get applied consistently.

Ibuki did have the caveat of being able to use focus/cr.mk and her air kunai as time wasting pokes… kage has no such luxury.

However he has counter pokes that into KD from over half a screen away. And when you are one counter poke away from getting your shit mixed in against a 6 month kage… things might change and all these happy to press buttons all day mofos are going to be letting him walk in for free.

Or not. Time will tell. He’s obviously quite strong though.

To me being counter poke based doesn’t mean you have shit footsies. You may have shit range in your footsies, but if it converts well when it hits then it’s hard to say they’re shit. I would say shit footsies is more stuff like S1 Gief/S2 Alex where your ranged footsies are too slow and your short/counter poke footsies don’t convert well. That means you’re not getting anything from either style of footsies and are left in the dust outside of special moves.

The way the game works some of the top footsie tools in the game are like more honest versions of A3 V Ism buttons. Shorter ranged, fast start up tools that are hard to whiff punish and convert well. Stuff like that explains SFIV and SFV Ibuki pretty well.

A good test of your characters footsies is vs Gief since Gief will eat your long buttons up and outrange your short buttons that don’t convert well if they’re not good.

For week 1/2 that’s a a pretty good performance vs the best Gief you could pretty much have. Launch Sakura had no chance of performing this well in neutral vs Gief.

Has a good high hitting s.HK to keep Gief from jumping or using standing footsies too often and that’s something not even Akuma quite has vs Gief. His fireball specifically vs Gief seems decently useful as well which is good. Plus having a real low into special vs Gief is something most of the other cast doesn’t really have. His V Skill armor even works as a preemptive anti air.

V skill armour is Gona get him cooked at high level once players get accustomed to it. ( I assume his charge punch thing is the v skill right?)

I was already starting to eye ball that since it seems like a go to option from that range because of his poorer mid range.

So guys, what’s everybody’s thoughts on S4 in general now that the patch has been out for a week?
Personally I feel that this might’ve been the best balance update Capcom has done for the game

  • Ryu, Alex, FANG, Vega, Nash, Sagat, Gief, Sakura, Cody, Falke (aka characters that needed help) - all got buffed and are hopefully more viable now competitively
  • Menat, Guile, Abigail, Cammy, Akuma, Ibuki (aka the Flavor of the Year top tiers) got nerfed, and Cammy even got murdered, so hopefully we’ll see less of them next year
  • Necalli, Mika, Balrog, G, Karin (aka characters that were fine as is) basically stayed the same and just had some QOL changes, no drastic adjustments

Chun also got pretty reasonable buffs with new combo options, Birdie got some stupid shit removed like the EX headbutt (RIP Mena lmao), Blanka and Kolin saw some help this season as well.

I’m am, however, worried about questionable nerfs to Ken, questionable buffs for Urien and Rashid, and Bison may have been overbuffed, as well as leaving Juri in the dust yet again. Also Laura’s changelist was pretty long, I guess all of those were necessary.

Best and most well rounded balance patch to date for sure. I think more characters are viable than ever before.

If 4.5 keeps this up, we’re in for a great year.

Bison over nerfed? Dude got better, he’s probably top teir now.

Did he get better though? He’s not doing anything he couldn’t do before more or less. If Bison is indeed top 5 now, it is because the old top tiers from last season all took hits.

Bad matches got nerfed ( Cammy?) , That Parry move has good application in situational stuff. None of the system changes (dp / armour) really effect him and even help him. I mean he was already underated.

I’d say he’s moved up to top 5.

Bleh meant to say overbuffed. After reading his notes he sounds kinda scary, I’m not sure he needed any of those as he was already a real damn good character. I mean he took EVO for christ’s sake

Sticking to my guns. Kage is mid tier at best

Problem X did that.

with Bison, yes. And keep in mind that was after the Season 3 buffs. And now he was buffed again, while Abigail doesn’t look like a good pick that much factoring in the nerfs.

TL;DR Problem X has now become a Problem XXX

Vega is barely more viable than he was before since he still cannot play SFV. Still working with bottom 5 VTs/VS/VR, non-threatening frame traps, and he still loses access to half his tools for getting touched too much. Not to mention you can simply mash out of his post roll “offense” in clawless since he can only threaten CH jab into nothing.

But hey he got a cool EX move that looks good in twitter combo videos so surely he is more viable now.

Edit: a word/spelling

Really? I knew the crLP nerf was gonna hurt a lot of her gameplan and make her a lot worse competitively, but the rest of her good stuff was still left mostly intact and I assumed that, at the very worse, she would have ended up mid tier, but she’s probably mid-high.
