What has actually happened with DBFZ? So far I’ve only seen the tweets and those are alarmist as fuck. Unless backed by some serious official statement, quite unprofessional from both ultradavid and wiz.
Wiz didn’t give Marvel any professionalism. He’s slowly kIlling all the cracks with his unprofessionalism
@Evil_Canadian how dire is this scenario looking?
Two US Tournaments had DBFZ pulled due to Toei probably wanting some money.
It also didn’t make it to EVO Japan’s line-up, but I don’t think anyone has said whether or not it was actually desired there?
Both Toei and Nintendo Japan said no to their respective game there. Toei blocking it from Japan isn’t that big of a deal, but pulling rank is America is whole other ballgame. Toei probably believes they’ll make more money personally by cutting off DBFZ entirely and having someone pay them to license another game.
So I’m gona go ahead and say Kage will drop to about high mid even straight mid by the time people have settled their pants. He’s not TT in my opinion. I’ve bodied nearly every Kage from Ultra Diamond to Ultra plat and I’m talking like the dude cant even get a round ( very early doesnt mean anything, but still…) .
Why? Doesnt seem to fit the meta, moves push him to far away to be a real threat, appears to have horrendous normals at mid range with giant hit boxes on them, his fireball is super ass…
Write this down.
Yeah when he gets going he is good, but otherwise he seems quite ass to be frank. I was running sets with some random using him against my Vega and I was mopping him up so easily. If he got his bs started I died fast though.
I got hit with his TK(?) cross-up EX tatsu xx teleport and lol that “mixup” is so easy to block its hilarious. Unless your are in danger of dying to the tatsu its not very good.
That’s what I mean, Im just sitting there blocking waiting for these epic cross up resets and nothing is happening, they will do some shit teleport and eat a full combo.
As far as I can see only his akuma esk target combo seems a real threat at mid range. Even if he fakes a jump with the air fb I can EX shot if he lands ( I appreciate not every character can do that), but even Rog or anyone with a fast EX move ( lol SF5) will be able to mop that shit up.
Add to that how much he bleeds…
Does standing Sagat get hit by instant air FB?
Im not sure, none of them can get within an arms reach of me without dying or doing a random Dp lol.
Disagree with you. For sure. You gotta have wool over your eyes to think he’s any less than top 10 area. I can agree that top 3 may be too strong a placement when we aren’t considering the other characters who got buffed but high mid tier would have people like Alex and Laura in it, or Gief. Kage is definitely better than that.
He has some problem matchups, he struggles vs. characters the shotos usually go even against because of the fireball dilemma. Sagat, Gief, Akuma, Chun give him a super hard time to fight against because he has to walk in and start threatening options while making it through a fireball wall. If you’re using Sagat or Ryu I can imagine why you’re winning so often because a lot of people are just gliding by with jumps/stomp stuff and kinda implode when the hard MU arrives.
You have to move away from his regular game and focus more on contesting fireballs, good use of sthk to attempt to stuff midrange pokes and fireball startup from unexpected ranges, and a lot of stmk when you run into a hard MU like that.
I wanna say your opinion is gonna be skewed if you’re playing Sag, who he struggles against a little.
VT2 also becomes hot garbage in these MUs you want VT1 for EX red xx teleport to force a situation quickly.
@Akhos GGs man, thanks for all the sets. Sorry I had to finally tap out but my brain is fucking jelly. I don’t know how you can stay crisp with some of these characters for as long as you do.
There are some things I still super fail at doing and it drives me kind of crazy. Just have to keep at it I guess. At least during these super long sets I get plenty of time to practice.
I could definitely be bias from my own experience. My gut feeling though is that if he’s getting bodied at mid range by Ryu and Sagat, he’s gona have major problems against characters that are actually more dominant in that area.
I’m not saying he’s shit, for me he seems a bit G ish. Lots of flashy lights and epic twitter training room combos, I’m just not sure if he’s got a base game that’s worth anything.
Yeah i will say he is way better against characters with less space control. I had a much harder time checking him with Sak since their normals have similar range and he also walks fast. She has her FB so it’s definitely better for her in neutral, but his offense is way better than anything she is working with.
I don’t play them so I can’t say, but i assume gets completed wrecked by Guile or Menat. Sagat too as mentioned by Highland.
He’s real fun to play against in low ranks. Just a bunch of Kage’s jumping like lunatics and throwing EX Hadokens from half screen that go nowhere.
No level specific kit, no lockout of any tools during defensive scenarios. G is contextually strong and can’t do shit on defense, Kage kit is just strong.
Walkspeed. Crmk xx fireball, f.hp, St.hk, St.mk. Stomp game is legit unless there’s a fuzzy guard timing where you can fit in a jab, haven’t tested enough I’ll get around to it.
Sounds weird but I got some sets in vs. Infexious and I assume the gameplan going into Gief is similar to Sagat, with the new Gief stmp he plays a similar game on the ground now as a wall. Kage is going to lose if you play like you’re going to get cr.mk dominance or play his stomp game. I have no Sagat’s to get MU experience with sadly to get a proper hold on it.
So who are the best bs mixup heavy characters? I been thinking I’d like to add some robbery to my rotation since the 3 characters I play are all variations of the same archetype.
I reckon G in Trigger is probably the best pure gimmick character in the game. You’ll get corner carry from quite literally any place on the screen from a random special that puts them into a 50/50 on wake up.
He can easily do 700 damage from one trigger, if not just win the entire round. Think Urien but better.
