The problem probably ends up being Falke’s neutral stance and the fact that she’s completely relaxed instead of being in actual combat stance. It’s hard to transition from that relaxed stance into the kind of jabs that guy is showing off within 4 frames of animation.
it’s a mix of a lot of things but yeah her neutral stance is also fucking stupid, you don’t hold a stance vertically with one hand if you’re fighting with it, you can walk around with it like that out of fights but you’re gonna get shit on in combat
Capcom probably intended to make it look like Falke is effective at using her staff even while swinging it casually, so yeah, she was probably intended to be “just that good”.
In practice though it doesn’t look very convincing when it comes to most of her jabs.
NRS animations are hilariously bad but I don’t think they should actually fix it. The thing to keep in mind is that NRS games have had bad animations for close to 20 years. The animation goes into the way they go about designing characters. Changing things around is going to readjust how they approach that part of it.
But just as I mentioned aesthetics being important to the games…at this point that jankiness is a big part of the NRS brand. Their games look and feel a certain way. That goofyness is very likely to be one of the charming parts of why people love it. Change it too much and you kind of start taking away from the bizarre uniqueness of the series.
I’ll clown it eternally but I absolutely hate it when people losing the things they love. NRS players having the games be comfy for them for all the wild reasons they like them is very important.
I remember in one of these lounges I said that Jump Ins giving you free combos regardless of height was bad design. That trend also started in 4 and moved on to 5.
Then somebody vehemently disagreed with me and said that it was fine and that was a good reward and that you should also get set ups form your knockdowns.
Welp,
Sometimes I wanna call this game Street Fighter -2
Goddamn I’m gonna have to go find that thread. That man predicted the future.
