SFV Lounge: Menat BUFFED, F2P SFV coming, CCCC COMBO BREAKERS coming

Seems SFV had other ideas.

Though Menat having a 1 frame sthp is appealing I admit

Do you know who also likes keeping his hands on the back, but it’s done good? That old blue cat guy (yeah I don’t know DBZ very well) in DBFZ, because he doesn’t keep his arms on his back at ALL times.

Imagine if Bison or Juri would keep their arms crossed, or rest their arm on their leg during every single attack or movement they do, it would just look awkward and awful.

The only character that I find awkward to look at in some animations is Sakura… and then it’s not even close to NRS levels of bad.

There’s more to life than invincible reversals. The designers (I think) stated that all characters were designed with a fatal flaw. It’s like a core design component.

I’ll be on in two hours. I’m west coast and my gamer tag is Wi-FiKing420noHadoXX

Falke is a mixed bag. Some of her moves are rather good, some are okay, and a few look like they were outsourced to NRS.

You can defend the standing LP by claiming the real attack is the psycho power it carries, and not the weak swing itself. But you can’t use that defense for her standing LK, where she stands almost stationary while rotating her leg 90 degrees to the side. Her Critical Art also has some questionable bits if you look closely.

he doesn’t in the comics tho

Even her stlk looks better than anything NRS typically does. She shifts her standing leg and body accordingly and looks like it has an appropriate amount of force for a light attack. Same goes for her light swings on her jabs.

Really the only animations on her that I think get to truly bad levels are her air throw and the follow-up animations from her dive kick thingy, and yeah I can agree with some bits of her Critical Art. But as a whole, while the type of attack might look silly (like her sthp overhead swing), I think they’re animated fine.

And if we’re going for more NRS animations, look no further than Cody’s stlk and his forward throw during VT2 (sorry @Frost but it’s true)

Speaking of animations though, it’s pretty easy for SFV’s to look better than NRS’ 'cause from what I remember of them discussing Ed’s development, they use motion capture for the moves that they can. Which I imagine makes it easier to make stuff look (mostly) more natural and fluid, even if the attack itself might be silly looking. And is also why stuff like parts of Falke’s critical art and her air throw look so bad 'cause parts of those can’t be motion captured. VS NRS that animates everything by hand and doesn’t know how to do it properly. At least, that’s what makes sense in my head.

I never liked MK.
KoF Characters are designed much better than SF characters (not counting how ass KoFXIV looks ofc) ever will with a few exceptions
EC opinion is been invalid since he cried “MUH ABIGAIL GOT NERFED HARD AND IS UNPLAYABLE” when S3.5 dropped.

I just realized that’s probably because pink/white is the anime version of blonde.
Anyway I take umbrage at you defending a character in a game you don’t play.

Falke’s animations are “stiff” and clinical intentionally. It’s meant to reflect her personality and her likely German sense of efficiency in movement. Her attacks are also imbued with Psycho Power, so she doesn’t have to swing as hard to hurt as much as others. This goes back to something we mentioned earlier that Capcom’s mantra in animation is to have the animations tell you everything you need to know about the character’s personality.

Sakura is the only SF5 character with legit stiff/bad animations, and even those are better than anything NRS has produced in the modern 3D era.

NRS always animates like shit, fun as hell though.

But SFV does have shit animations too. Holy fuck the abomination that is Cody pressing buttons. Only Capcom could make a character look so damn good when idle or end animations but look so fucking puke worthy when pressing buttons. Alex is another one that his stance and certain buttons look terrible, but vskill and command grabs look great.

Off topic, but damn Kage seems so hopeless against Menat… though I don’t know if I’m just running across people that don’t know how to play him

Mk games still have that weird animation where if you bring someone’s health to 0 with a sweep the character would fall 2 times sometimes and that shits been happening since mk2 lol

Far better topic than the recurring “my FG is better” camp wars.

I love when Kage players start recurring to V-Skill only for it to whiff because I’m hitting them with st. HP from afar. On the other hand, Guile has been wrecking more ofthen than not despite being a supposedly favorable matchup and he being nerfed. Haven’t seen any S4 footage of the matchup to take notes.

ah yeah Guile… now that’s a character I haven’t seen in a while, I used to face them almost every time

Now that I think about it, he got nerfs to literally every everything good about him, such as booms, flash kick, sobat, etc. Out of the top tiers he was the most nerfed outside of Cammy wasn’t he.

love you too Twin

Alright, who’s making a lounge tonight?

So I’m gonna defend Falks st.LP

How the fuck do you animate a 4f st.LP that has a fucking stick as the attack? Like for it to be fluid it would have the longer than 4f because it would need more natural wind up. It’s stiff but it’s probably one of the only light normals that suffer from this and it makes since why. Everyone in MK has a st.LK horror animation which is why the game sucks massive fucking donkey dick.

I really don’t pay too much attention to animations honestly, to a scrub like me everything looks good, I know sfv is the most respected competitive game and that’s probably gonna be that way forever, but I come from playing nrs games, and I think those games are awesome. I love the character design in those games too, I mean you have characters who lay traps, characters who drop from the ceiling, freezes, etc. to me the gameplay in mk is just fun as hell.

pretty easily, let me try and show you an example, you know there’s an entire martial art based around using bo staffs right?

quick google search this is the best I can find, there aren’t many resources online.

To sum it up though, using an upward swing from below with one hand using a bo staff is going to have no impact behind it, your wrist will just buckle under when coming into contact with someones body and the blow will have no impact behind it. If you wanted to jab with a staff, you’d thrust forward quickly because it doesn’t fuck with your centre of balance and lets you manoeuvre easily after the strike into a defensive stance
