SFV Lounge: Menat BUFFED, F2P SFV coming, CCCC COMBO BREAKERS coming

the blockstring thing prolly has an answer that I just don’t know of yet, if it’s a gimmick string then his sthk is still this kind of twilight between being a good space control tool and a gigantic risk

It’s definitely good. Some characters don’t have 7 frame mediums let alone heavys. It’s recovery is good enough for me to dp if you jump ( and that’s if the HK didn’t already pick you out there air).

The range makes it hard for characters to get a combo whiff punish off.

Stupid PS4, went to turn off the system and accidentally ejected the disk at the end of a ranked game I lost.

Can’t even apologize to the guy because of his PS4 privacy settings.

Cody can more than likely wiff punish the crouched Hk with cr.fp xx mk ruffian. But one would really have to be focusing on the string like I sometimes do against you when I want to shut a particular option down. But anyways, no matter what option anyone comes up with to beat the string, that just opens up mindgames, it’s almost guaranteed not to be any braindead counter that just works all the time, that not how sf5 is. Knowing what beats what isn’t even half the battle anymore. Knowing when what is coming is the entire battle and you can always just not do st.hk or mix it up or stagger it or bla bla bla

Yup, it’ll basically be a rotation of

St.mk st.mk
St.mk st HK
St.mk nothing
Fireball st.hk
Fireball st.mk

…too many. You’d have to eye ball it, which is possible still. You can def whiff punish it.

my best bet is most likely stmk to stuff the string out, it’s his best neutral move

sthk is too slow to contest

As far as I remember the string, you mostly use it because people like to jump after blocking or getting hit by st.mk. The st.hk beats jumps and dashes and long range standing pokes. Once the st.hk starts to get punished or beaten, that’s when st.mk>plasma comes out.

We play each other too much…

The Sagat sthk hitting crouchers thing randomly reminds me that Capcom decided to allow this to hit crouching

Obviously not comparable balance-wise, just from a visual one it’s like why. Both Sagat’s sthk and Abigail’s sthk hit at the exact same height level XD

That’s weird as shit if they both hit at the same level and yet one hits crouchers and the other doesn’t.

What is it about the moves that differ that allow this?

The game in general was designed for most standing buttons to hit crouchers. It was a design philosophy they explained before the game launched. Good in some ways, but visually a bit off when stuff like Sagat’s s.HK and Ibuki’s s.HK are chosen not to.

Speed. Sagat’s sthk is around 10 frames (for the 2nd hit) with 19 frames of recovery (again, going from the 2nd hit), Abigail’s is 18 frames with 29 frames of recovery

Also Capcom’s scared of making Sagat too good. They do not have that concern with Abigail, clearly.

How come very little white people are good at SFV on a pro level? But a ton of white people are good at Smash Brothers on a pro level?

I know this sounds racist but I’m genuinely curious from a cultural perspective. I’m watching a smash tourney right now and there’s lots of white people (among all other races). But in competitive SFV white people are very rare. Are there certain skills that white people are naturally good or bad at that lend them more to Smash than SF, or is it more that white people prefer the fantasy style of Smash to the street-fighterish style of Street Fighter?

Doesn’t the 1st hit of his st.HK hits crouching ?

Yeah it forces stand. Frosty wanted the second hit to also hit crouching.

Same reason white people are more seen in MOBAs and FPS’s. Fighting games competitively after the 90s arcade area (especially the early 2000s) became a lot more played in minority centric areas of the US and in asian countries like Japan. In America especially a lot of minorities were still going to arcades at malls to play CVS2, 3S and A3 in the late 2000s when the white boys were playing warcraft, WoW and counter strike. Just breeds a culture of more colored people. Lot of the current top Cali players are hispanic or asian/southeast asian minorities.

A lot of white people grew up with Nintendo so more of a culture of them gravitating to a fighter that has Mario in it when they were kids in the early 2000s

All the white guys play anime or soul caliber. Well that’s not really true either in terms of highest level of play lol
