Whiff punish with fat is usually only a single poke. Funnily enough one of his best whiff punishers is st.hk , but you just get the single poke.
St.lk xxx special is good, but it’s not a range we should really be playing at, we need to be a bit further.
How many buttons does Sagat have to whiff punish with? stlk? crmp? sthk? If you’re sexy maybe crHP and stHP :^) So I’m guessing top tiers have more than that right?
Edit: Oh yeah I forgot you can whiff punish with VT2’s knee strikes but that’s just stupid…and it works at times too
Yeah he’s got decent options , especially if you’ve got meter. It’s just not really a part of his design.
In SF4, I whiff punished Ryu’s far fierce with Fei’s Ultra.

Whiff punishing it my absolute favorite part of Street Fighter. Big whiff punishes are pure sex, especially when the other is clearly shook after.
I remember a couple weeks ago I was fighting a Karin with Chun. He kept whiffing the same button in front of me, and I blew him up with full VTC combo into Super. I felt like a god.
Sagat, space it tightly and not much can stuff out the hurtbox
In Tekken you can whiff punish jabs on reaction. In Soul Calibur you can whiff punish everything all the time.

Yeah I think we had this convo. That’s why I thought Sagat beat Cody. Although you got smarter in a couple if matches and started to sweep under it.
I’ve always said that sweep is a good way to deal with Sagat because it’s a low risk good reward. I block you’re probably only eating a sweep back, but if you hit I’m down and possibly crush countered.
the whiff punish is easy if you sit and wait for sthk but if you respect the stmk and don’t challenge you give him stupid control at that range

And I thought that I am so smart for sweeping a lot against Sagat.
I’m running into a bunch of people with level 70+ characters playing at Super Gold level and doing the dumbest stuff. Pressing a button every time they block something no matter the frame data. Throwing out a special randomly whenever another special whiffs or gets blocked. Using special moves, jumps and dashes exclusively to move around. I don’t get it. I don’t know how many hours you need to have level 70 or something of a character but at some point shouldn’t you ask yourself how to improve, if even slightly?
I mean I’m neither great nor really competitive about this game but I don’t play like a complete lunatic at least.
It’s actually one of the few things that work against broken ass Guile when I used to play Ryu.
Sagat can dp most sweeps but I’d have to see you doing it, rather than just random.
If gats st.hk hit crouchers the shit would literally be better than uriens old st.hp, on a character with a CC AA and a dp and some of the best plasma in the game.
The way I tend to deal wit those strings from sagat is to make him guess between me backing away or not. I don’t think that specific string can really be messed with at proper range, but no one ever said you have to take on tools at their very best ranges. I do like to fireball sagats limbs though. pretty effective in general.
