From sf4 onward the only time he played the best character was yun. There was even a better shoto when he played eRyu.
Sure if you want to go back to the dark ages id agree but there’s 10 recent years of him not playing the best.

I found S4 disappointing at first but now that I’ve played with it a bit I like it.
Ryu is playable
Sak got a few, small but good buffs
Chun got a cool new VS kick that can give decent oki
Falke got good QoL buffs
Vega didn’t eat nerfs and his new EX roll is pretty cool for punishing fireballs and midscreen oki.
Kage is cool and fun
Good start so far even though I’m nervous about the rest of the season.

Amazing how Sagat became the new Dan character of SFV as soon as his arch rival enters the game. And I mean literally his arch rival, he thinks it’s Ryu but it was Kage aaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllll along. And the plot gets deeper as soon as Sagat realizes this motherfucker trained Dan back in the day :^)

The thing is he uses Guile a lot in different games even in SF4 compare to others . Which is more relative to his style compare to Rog, Akuma or Ken.

Still clear enough evidence that he goes for top shoto or near top shoto. E.Ryu was being whored by other shotos and even non shoto players and that same character almost won him the last Capcom Cup vs another top BS character.
SFV he hasn’t used anyone consistently in tournament lower tier than Vanilla Ryu. Daigo will never use a non top tier character in Capcom Cup. He will eventually cave in to the pressure to perform for himself and his sponsors. Especially in Capcom Cup SFV characters that aren’t top tier or nearly top tier don’t pay. The inches matter with 100s of thousands of dollars on the line and the game isn’t like Tekken where everyone has generic 14F launcher into such and such damage and sidestep.

Basically. Even if edgelord isn’t technically the correct term to use (which is just semantics at this point) I don’t have a problem with Kage being the way he is, if we’re talking about his existence as a whole. I just really don’t like that kind of character, so I won’t use him.

If all those characters were top tier, and even in non capcom sf games, he preferred the closer thing to a shoto they offered then doesnt that actually help the reasoning of him playing strong characters BUT as shoto as he can because um… he likes that playstyle? I don’t know the story and he may be a tier whore but what I’m gathering is that he likes shoto playstyle. Didn’t he go a full season of playing ryu after he got nerfed?

After Ryu got nerfed he switched to Guile.
The point is him tier whoring.
The dodge was that he just plays what fits him.
The dodge is there to invalidate the tier whoring aspect, by trying to bypass the argument trough bending somehow.
As you see this is a cowardly attempt to win an unwinable argument.
He could have also played Ky in xrD whos basically Ryu on steroids, but he took Sol, who was much better at that time. (Ky is much better by now).
The record shows that he just goes for Top Tier and there is no argument to invalidate this.
If the bending attempt would still be somewhat ok, then explain Gen,Guy,Rog,Yun, his entire CvS2 picks and his Marvel team.

Also CE Edition Guile was literally broken, I dunno if it was him or Bison who had infinite blockstrings, but I know both could delete you if they managed to get a hit in.
He usually use Guile, in HF, ST, CVS and SF4 than ken or akuma.
Guile is always part of his arsenal of choices and among the most frequent.
