So Ed’s charged v skill is +3 on block, gives full combo on hit, pulls the opponent into throw/frame trap/shimmy range BEATS FIREBALLS and goes almost 3/4 screen. It’s currently 35 frames of startup, and this guy wants it sped up to 26 frames, same speed as ibukis overhead.
I just got into an argument with someone that wants it to be changed to 26 frames of startup.
I think that’s ridiculous. Am I out of touch? Is ed THAT bad the he needs something that OP to be relevant?
26 would be kinda stupid because charged v skill’s main weakness is that it loses to preemptive jump in pretty free. Making it 26 would put it around the frame data where someone could time a jump over it and actually have trouble punishing it.
Not to mention make it a non committal move which they obviously aren’t going for with that move. You have to commit/make a read to make it work.
No, they could still jump it and get a free punish because 26 frames is the startup, not the recovery. The recovery on that move is huge, like a command grab.
True, if you’re totally on point you’ll still get it but with nerves and such you could go for a late jump at that extra 10 frames down would make it so he’d have a few more situations where a late jump would have trouble punishing. Especially characters with floatier jumps like Chun. It would get kinda ridiculous vs Chun and Fang at that start up.
I mean think about it like this: double dash from the fastest characters is 32 frames iirc. Combine that with a 3 frame normal at the end and that’s 35 frames. He wants a move that has more range than a double dash, that gives full combo on hit, that is +e on block and that beats fireball, to have basically the speed of like a 13 frame dash that autoattcks at the end…
Yeah doesn’t take much thought to figure it would be stupid, but people like having stuff so hey.
Ed’s V-Skill is in a weird place where it does too much where making it good is likely a bad idea, but as it is…it’s only really useful against people who have no reactions, never jump…or against Akuma because Down V-Skill spaced properly can fuck his freebie approach.

As an example, think of a Mika charged st.hk that si 26 frames instead of its current 35 frames.
Yeah Mika has a command grab and ed doesn’t. And Mika can fake hers and ed really can’t. But Ed’s can’t be jabbed or buttoned like Mika’s either. It just sounds like a really dumb balance buff.
It’s just a matter of Ed’s entire V-System (outside of his V-Reversal which got nerfed with every other V-Reversal at this point) being very poorly designed…well like the entire character really. Only now does Ed feel like an ACTUAL character, but he still has a very lacking V-System.

Ed’s vt2 is 26 frames of startup. So basically this guy is saying he wants unlimited vt2 ground snatchers. Like vt2 only gives ed like 2-3 of them iirc and this guy wants that shit all day.

He’s dumb, that much is obvious. I will say though that his VT2 is not that good…but it’d be busted if we got it the entire match (though without the cancels in this case).
