He played Guy in Alpha games and Balrog in SF2. Also top tiers. lol
He will just plays character that fits his play style and that has decent advantage.
He played Guile in HF and ST.
It’s a matter of play-style not character and just tier.
Like I said, he’s a Tier Whore.
If a shoto is Top Tier he picks him, if not, he picks the best Top Tier he can get, as long as he can play his game.
I got hit by that air tatsu yesterday. Thankfully it killed me because I don’t know if I could have taken the rest of that sequence while keeping my inner zen.
I also have that really bad feeling that this setup would make EX Schneide whiff. Unfortunately not able to try it out because I won’t buy that dumb-looking edgy teenage fantasy.
Not really the top tier but the other with decent gameplay that fits his play style.
Yun didn’t stay for him that long.
The Top Tier.
Yun is an exception, exceptions prove the rule.
Notice he keeps coming back more often to Guile from different version of SF from HF and ST, not Nash, Akuma or Ken.
Even they had anti air and projectile.
Yun is an isolated case therefore it doesn’t prove solidify.
you don’t get it, let’s use your example, he’s not whining about a video game level depicting hell, he’s saying that he doesn’t like levels depicting hell hence why he doesn’t play them.
And btw, Kage is an edgelord character design no matter the reason for him to be like that because being the manifestation of all negative energy inside of someone is by itself a pretty edgy thing
He used more Guile than Akuma and Ken in different sf version.
Didn’t he play decidedly-not-top-tier Bishamon in VSAV?
He’s certainly not a character loyalist though, but when I think of a tier whore I think of Tokido or Kindevu.
Gimmicks? Nah bro, you’re definitely tripping if you think he’s gimmicky. Although that brings up the question, is a reset a gimmick? Kage has too many tools to enforce his gameplan. There’s definitely holes that can be punished, but if he wants to make you feel pain and have Oki, it’s more than possible. Kage with a meter is gonna make people angry. His FADC, whilst punishable is still an escape option, with a 3f light and Cr.Mk to counter shimmy, he can survive long enough to cause havoc.
Kage is literally the opposite of edgy stuff. Its the antithesis of Ryu’s repressed negative emotions; a good chunk of that being anger.
Edgy nonsense is the stuff Sega did with Shadow by giving him guns and having him say damn. That in a franchise full of fluffy duffy nonsense.
Im trying to figure out what more than a decade’s worth of build up representing a character’s inner struggle with the temptation of violencr is supposed to act like.
When was Ken Top Tier outside of 3rd Strike?
Ken was for most of his lifetime just a worse version of Ryu, only exceptions being USFIV and 3rd Strike.
When was Akuma Top Tier Outside of Alpha3? (well troughout SFIV lifetime obviously and in 2I I belive)
How often was Guile Top? Often enough.
Nash was a Guile clone and literally never was close to the Top.
Balrog in ST is also a huge evidence towards this.
I’m new to the sf series and players but coming from nrs games and having played the first mk 1,2,3 games makes me know that players usually stick to the character they like and they probably mained first. I played subzero and from then he’s been my main regardless of tier. Didn’t diago main ryu before any other character? And wouldn’t he have switched to cammy, akuma,Abigail, menat, by now if tiers is all that matters to him?
Why switch to a Top Tier, if you already play a Top Tier?
Guile was Top3 last season.
Guile is pretty much in the same tier as those characters and he has the best fireball in the game, which is usually something Daigo gravitates towards to in classic SF games. Unless they release a character so overpowered like AE Yun who just outclasses almost everyone in the cast you usually see him play that sort of character design.
In the end he makes money by staying relevant in the pro scene. So as much as he might like classic shoto characters, there’s no way he was ever going to use S2 or S3 Ryu in a competitive environment.
The character loyalist archetype is usually reserved for non-pro players like ourselves. Or for people like Tokido who is lucky enough to be loyal to a character who’s been top tier in pretty much every game he appeared in.
Like I said he is just using them because they got the right tools in that game and he has no decent option and those character were the closest to his playstyle.
There are people different types of gamer.
That would play characters that they are familiar. = Casual
Character that they are comfortable to fit their style of gameplay = ex Daigo
Character with unconventional and unorthodox gameplay. = ex Justin Wong
Character that they like the personality, fashion sense, plot, origin, goal and etc = aka character loyalist & fanboys
Character that they like the playstyle like being honest, loves projectile game, loves wrestling, loves karate, loves people that use foots, waifu, skinny teenager, loves boxers = fanboy by style, archetype and genre
Characters that are proven to do well = tier whore = not daigo
-a tier whore will force a character that is dominating the trends even it doesn’t fit their playstyle.
He even choose Guile over Ken and Akuma more frequent/
So Daigo is a Tier Whore, got ya.
What is a not-tierwhore?
lol
I’m not a daigo fan. Never had been.
I’m speaking here as a usability design.
