I don’t disagree with you but it’s not just that. Daigo likes characters that let him play his game. If has a choice between a Top 5 character that doesn’t fit his style and a Top 10 character that does. He’ll play the top ten character. The Ryu changes seem to be right up his ally. He can zone and with VT2 buffs, he can slow his opponents offense by simply activating it.

A tier whore doesn’t know his strength so he just pick poorly based on statics and trends.
Most pro players aren’t those types. That kind of mentality separates them from ordinary people. Knowing how the way you think then combining it to a decent tool you gain advantage makes you above average.

Because, again, the player that springs to my mind when you say tier whore is Tokido, whose MO literally was “okay, this is the most abusable shit in the game, time to win EVO and SBO with it”.
I play a Shoto, I would hate myself then.
I actually play multiple ones.
I consider the SF shotos to be personalty wise: flat uninspired, boring, one dimensional slot wastes that do nothing but give Capcoms free passes to recycle one design over and over.
I really love characters like Hyde or Es, who play exactly how I like.
I would just never play characters I don’t like. Whats literally 90% of the SF cast.
To me a tier whore is someone who would main the strongest character or stronger characters even if they don’t like the design or playstyle. I would never main cammy because she has no fireball even though she’s way stronger than my main ryu. But I picked up akuma because he’s a shoto and fun and I like shotos, obviously Daigo is on a different universe than me but I’m saying this because a lot of choosing a character can be simply the playstyle you like. Just because I played ryu, then picked up akuma which happens to be top tier don’t make me a tier whore. Just sayin.

Okay… Maybe I won’t pickup Kage after all. He’s fun to play but playing like this is not my style.
Maybe will try honest-man Ryu again.
I mean, he literally takes a pose with a glowing Kanji on his back after performing a raging demon so yeah, both him and Akuma go out of their way in order to perform something that’s completely unnecessary from a martial artist pov just to show how cool they are
Did they buff akuma vt2? Seeing a few using it in ranked and that’s odd as fuck lol.

It’s about his play style or anyone that has anti air and projectile.
Tier whore forces himself and would spend a large amount time but doesn’t know how his mind work on specific situation.
Many people are normally tier whore that’s the different from pro players who knows their thought process. That’s why they succeed the most and standout from those.
A tier whore is different from someone who know his strength and weaknesses to which path he would be expert.
