Y’all know TUs inflicting 130dmg and 160 with V-Skill, right? It’s far from weak, especially if it’s usage is bound to Gat Angry Scar. I’m ok with makes some normals faster, but then some of them can’t really have that adv oB (i.e. st.LP).
In general I don’t buy this ‘The King deserve this and that’ campaign, what about the other characters living already in the lower tier neighborhoods?
That i agree upon, a character doesn’t deserve buffs just because he is X or Y, we don’t buff characters depending on story because that’s not how it goes.
SFV basically needs test servers and a much better way to provide feedback to Capcom.I know there’s a ESPORT scene they are focusing on but keeping characters overtuned and some undertuned for 1 year + is not cutting it for me.
EX low shot gives oki in this game so they’re not going to make it do much more damage. Damage isn’t really a problem for Sagat.
They’re not messing with his AA damage either. Especially when in some matchups it’s pretty viable to activate angry charge and add even more damage, stun and juggle potential. He’s a mountain of AA’s and just have to compensate a bit vs the few characters that can change up their angles.
I can see them adjusting his mediums and heavies a bit. Big issue Sagat has is he doesn’t have a heavy button that’s threatening vs crouching characters. If you compare the other big zoner types like Menat, Guile and Falke, they all have threatening STANDING HEAVY buttons that HIT CROUCHERS that can convert to damage. Falke probably being the best of it with a heavy that basically blows up all lows and is very fast for the absurd range and one hit confirms into big damage/set play. Menat’s s.HP being the other side of that where it doesn’t convert to as much damage, but is near impossible to poke at for most of the cast and causes CC knockback. Guile has f+HP and s.HK. Both advance him forward for more pressure and f+HP causes CC to build gauge and can combo from.
The only standing heavy Sagat has that hits crouchers is s.HP and it’s mad slow (for the lack of range compared to say Falke’s f+HP) at 13F start up. Near abysmal for a heavy that doesn’t cause CC. In comparison for a normal that has adequate range for that speed, Falke’s f+HP is 14 frame start up, but causes CC and is one of the longest normals in the entire game. To the point where most characters can’t punish it on block even at minus 10. Sagat being minus 2 on s.HP is irrelevant because you wont want to use that at close range any way and other characters have heavies that are way more minus and still near impossible to regularly punish. s.HP gets a little better during v trigger because you can cancel it into his trigger attacks, but that’s a long wait to get a 13 F start up standding heavy button that hits crouchers and converts.
s.HK is really good at whiff punishing standing moves at 7F start up, but anything crouching and it just whiffs. Sometimes you’ll see Bonchan throw it out either as legit whiff punish or just to try to catch something as its the only heavy button he has with any real speed. c.HP is ok, but that’s a crouching heavy and doesn’t have the range it did in IV or other games. Knockback CC so only really good at keeping life leads unless you land it close enough to convert off of.

I can see why they were afraid to make his heavies (or mediums) too good because he basically has Vanilla worthy s.LK in this game which has made some top tier Sagats in past games. Having a near Guile worthy fireball game without having to charge is powerful also, it’s just in this game you need strong standing heavies to contend for top tier and he don’t got them right now.
Without that changing, Sagat will be mid/high mid at best. Definitely above too honest tier, but not much past that.
That’s the game. If you dont got it, you too honest. The later characters are getting away from big damage heavies that cause CC, but they usually have non CC heavies that are still strong and convert.
Pretty much everyone I’ve talked to have said similar stuff, actually. “Why pick a fair and honest character like Sagat when you can just autopilot with some other character that also has stupid V-trigger comebacks”?
The answer to that is, of course, because he’s the King and plays like an old-school SF-character rather than a SFV-character, which is literally why I’m playing him. I probably won’t ever get good with him since Tekken’s my main game atm and this guy takes serious effort to win with as he is now, but whatever.
He’s similar to where he was in IV where he just has glaring meta issues that keep him out of being viable to solo main unless you are Bonchan. With that said he has good anti meta tools vs some of the top so good to have around regardless.
That’s my point, dunno why complaining at Guile while practically asking for Sagat to be a better version of him. Sagat is honest, strong things with some weak points. As @Frost father said, Sagat would be really good if we don’t consider at least the best 10 characters in the game. It’s up to Capcom find the best balance for Sagat and the rest of the low tiers, pretty sure they gonna take it the easiest and quickest route nerfing the stronger ones.
I’m convinced Capcom will do what they typically do which is somewhat pander to what people complain about, but not enough to cripple anyone that’s already really good. Best hope is Sagat gets cheaper. The high tiers aren’t going to get less cheap to help Sagat. They’ve pretty much proven at this point that they aren’t going to do another Season 1 style shuffle to make the top tier more honest.
Guile has been Guile for 2 seasons. Cammy has been Cammy for 2 seasons. Rashid still Rashids. Ibuki is gonna Ibuki. Better just hope other guys get cheap stuff cuz it’s not going to get fixed the other way.
