SFV lounge: London we have a Problem X. SFV gave us the Burger King again

Confirmed: I’ll be organizing my first tourney in a month. This’ll be interesting.

Out of all the bad matchups Gief has, FANG is the most infuriating to play. Bulldogging his projectile is a real pain and takes very long, and once you get anywhere near him he can do his cr. rh. to put you in a blockstring for the next three minutes. Never mind his corner escapes. Horrible character.

Yeah he’s weird , he should be good on paper, I wonder if he had some batshit crazy v-trigger , he would probably be top tier.

Like imagine Menat without V trigger. Bitch isn’t half as scary then.

FANG with a good V-trigger is the stuff of nightmares, it would probably cut the remaining player base in half.

Fang is a character with some strong things, he just has glaring weaknesses and doesn’t really do very well vs any of the top 5. Just no reason to play him in tournament when other characters can handle the characters he does well with while handling the top 5 better.

It is funny how much this applies across the cast. Sort of like what you said about what SFV could look like without VTs/VTC.

Every time I steal a round with some shit like Twist Elbow -> VTC -> Sunset Wheel I want 2000s era Jamie Kennedy to jump out from behind myself and my oppoent and scream “YOU JUST GOT SFV’D BITCH!!!” This game definitely deals in its own specific brand of fuckery.

Funny enough I’ve never really had much issue with Menat’s V Trigger. If you are playing a good character once you get in you usually force her into a decision of having to blow the v reversal and prolong using it or get frame trapped trying to pop it out of a frame trap or neutral. On top of that it’s definitely one of the more fun v triggers to use and watch others use. The damage it can set up is probably still a bit too high, but other than that it’s fun and allows people to come up with their own ways of using it. Don’t mind cheap as long as it’s interesting.

Most of Menat’s strength really is outside of the trigger IMO. Her trigger could be strong as hell and it’d be whatever if she could actually be poked and counter poked. The fact that she can’t is why Zangief literally is removed from the game when he has to play against her. Unless you have big ass buttons with armor like Abigail you have to hop over her buttons, low profile them or shoot projectiles at them. Everything else gets blown up.

Yeah on a sliding scale (3+MK) Menat’s VT1 doesn’t bother me too much. What is probably most frustrating about it is that she is a character that can be a real pain in the ass to get in on with the trade off that she kind of has to hold it. But if she gets loose again VT1 allows her to turn the tide again and that can definitely be frustrating.

For me it is less egregious because a) the damage on it tends to be so low that the player really needs to maximize shenanigans to get a real swing out of it if she’s down, b) as you said it is still pretty dang stylish, relative to SFV’s stuff, and c) I dabble with Menat so I am biased. :cat:

I’ve helped a friend using Fang and that character has really scary things, no wonder Capcom don’t want to improve him. The point is, why creating a character if they don’t want to make him shine at least once? You’ve created a slot waste instead.

Compare Fang VT with Laura VT, here’s Capcom balance for y’all

It definitely feels like they tried too many things with FANG in the context of the mechanics of SFV and ended up in a situation where they keep err’ing on the side of caution rather than risk him running wild. On one hand I applaud them for trying but on the other hand it definitely feels like a waste to have a character that seems to be doomed to be forever under-tuned.

Maybe they’ll figure out a way to cut that knot but if I was a FANG main I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Also I’m still free as fuck to rushdown FANG so I hope he stays in the basement forever. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anywhere from 10-20 hours a week depending on whether I’m occupied with other games/activities. The weekend may extend that to 20-30 hours per week. It’s a cycle of training (with fight request on) > ranked > training > ranked and then on Thursdays and Saturdays I go to local sessions to play offline (seek this out if they have it in your area. Check regional matchmaking section or ask/search on facebook or whatever just to see if you have to opportunity to play in person).

-I’m not a new player for fighting games, so it didn’t take very long to get through most of the early leagues for SFV. I’m trying to remember if it took a while for SF2: Hyper Fighting on Xbox one since that was pretty much the first time I was playing SF online (and it was WAY laggier), but even before then I was playing offline with friends and had come across a few strategy videos/guides by then.

…I don’t think I paid too much attention to rank until SF4. I was more about just learning new stuff and how to deploy strategies to see how they worked in a match. Finally hitting up local tournaments and finding people in person to talk to and play against besides my initial circle of friends was the most beneficial to me.

those 2 are the ones I main, I can’t know everyone bad MUs

So as a ryu player what’s the best way to fight Menat? There’s this really really good menat that I’ve played in casuals and he/she just blows me away with a lot of perfects. His name is xiaofei or something like that but that dude is beast. I can’t believe he’s ranked rookie, seems like he should be ranked master lol

He is playing Menat. At the rank you are, just pressing buttons with her gives him a huge advantage against the rest of the field since her buttons are so disjointed, so it looks like they are really good, but they aren’t.
Look for gaps on her buttons, dash in and target combo her. Ryu’s dash is ridiculously fast, so try to use it after he whiffs st HP or st HK.
If he is jumping too much, DP him. I think cr HP might also work.

Don’t throw hadoukens at Menat unless they are ex hadoukens. Not only she can reflect them back, Ryu’s hurtboxes and recovery from a hadouken are cry worthy.

Thanks bro. She just throws the orb and whenever I try to get inside she just beats me all the time, then I have to worry about the orb call back and I have to be blocking all the time because if not the orb explodes (?) and I get hit.

If he throws the orb, jump, dash or anything but get in his face and make him regret to throw away his disjointed hitboxes.
The orb throw is also considered a fireball so your hadouken nullifies it.

The explosion is only worrisome if you are near the orb. The orb can hit you on the way back when she call it back, but if you hit her during that, the orb will miss you entirely.
Also, mk and hk Tatsumaki Senpukyaku have a long period of projectile invincibility (starting on frame 6 for mk and on frame 9 for hk).
Soooo… Menat throws the orb badly spaced? Tatsumaki her face in.

It’s the whole “weird/haphazard characters can’t be top tier thing”. Like how if Fuerte ever became top tier he’d probably be the most complained about character in SF history. All of the current top tier are pretty controllable compared to what a top tier Fang would be. It would be nice to serve the Fang players, but it’s obvious it’s something only the Fang players would like.

I tried that fighting chance thing. I always have weird luck. I just wanted Juri’s EX7 color, but I got Balrogs costume twice in one roll, both of which are dupes. I did get Chuns EX7 color though. I really hate how colors were handled in this game.
