SFV lounge: London we have a Problem X. SFV gave us the Burger King again

I haven’t run afoul of any good Sagats yet, but for Laura/MIka this seems like a different flavor of the Guile match up: navigating zoning and good normals to get in, backed up by the threat of EX reversal. Not fun but their robbery/momentum factor feels like it keeps those more in the 6-4 range than creeping into 7-3. Playing someone chunky like Gief into this fight seems pretty miserable if the Sagat player is on point.

Lol I just had this happen to me way too many times against a claw I was fighting a couple days ago in sfxt. His jump in is already ridiculous enough, with that fake cross up crossup crap makes it a nightmare to deal with

Gotta agree there
dude’s got a way of making you want to watch him

not interested in the character personally, but i cant help repeating the “light it up” line when i’m watching a G fight.

Edit: Also i kinda like how the slimmed Sagat down from 4. Dude was waaaaaay too bulky in 4. His in game weight makes no sense but its cool

This is basically what I said from the jump with less detail.

He’s playing “traditional” streetfighter in sf5 more so than most of the characters and he does it well. He’s not bad, and in sf4 or any other sf game this version of sagat would be amazing.

But this is sf5 and he’s not good in this setting really, he’s basically to honest. Even more honest than ryu, HOWEVER when you play a match almost perfectly you are rewarded with sagat I feel more so than any other character outside or maybe guile.

A sagat played perfectly shouldn’t really be getting rounds stolen from him it’s hard for most characters to rob him outside of really rog. He does have a handful of bad or questionable match up’s that in there are about even if you play really well but seeing as your average and above average sagat players aren’t going to punish every AA or get hit because of a bad tiger shot… those match up become, your typical, combo into knock down, into oki. But sagat does at the least have an invincible reversal to steal turns back…

But I agree with everything you said, and even though I’m losing with sagat currently more than I’m winning online its still fun because this is the part of streetfight I enjoy.

To bad sagat didn’t get release like season 1 or 2, he might have gotten a couple slight buffs by now.

I haven’t played against the entire cast yet, but the Boxer matchup might be his worst for me so far. I honestly have no clue what the gameplan is against this character. You can’t keep him out, and when he’s in, he’s so far up your ass it’s ridiculous. I’m interested to see how Bonchan deals with this match because Boxer is straight up oppressive against Sagat.

Yeah, right now I honestly feel like you have to throw the whole defensive zoning out the window and really play an aggressive sagat with less shots in that match up

Can’t disagree with that tbh.

I mostly give Juri as an example because i main her and she is my favorite character. But i really want more use out of her uncharged v-skill. As it sits, it’s just something extra she needs to charge / store in order to be effective.

You gave a good example on Falke as well.

Sagat players should generally be less scared about jumps than any other fireballer. You really can’t jump his shots on reaction so any jump you do take is basically them being random or anticipatory. Sucks that jump ins do a lot of damage in this game for no real execution if you get jumped on, but Sagat more than about any character other than Guile it’s really on him to get jumped on. If you know you’re fighting someone that’s going to take that jump risk then keep walking them down and close up their space. Sagat has offense too so they dont want you closing up their corner to force pressure that will lead to combos that hurt.

Told you Boxer would be the real problem. He beats Guile also. Doesn’t have to jump to beat his zoning (jumping to beat their fireballs is guesswork at best) and has that long ass j.MP to snipe bad fireballs. Just have to stand your ground and dont over commit to any fireballs. Once Bonchan vs Boxer matches get out it’ll most likely just him being patient as balls and checking with low risk buttons until it hopefully works out.

Even by history Rog just has a lot of options vs Gat’s tools. ST Gats didn’t wanna fight Rog and I remember JS Master switching to Rog in Super IV to beat Mago’s Sagat. Well…looking at the video again he didn’t win, but got real close and made it pretty clear that Rog just has the tools to threaten his normal gameplan without needing to take the air.

Eh, O.Gat vs ST Boxer is approximately even (4.5-5.5). High tigers can snipe Boxer out of his headbutts, so the projectile maze is hard to navigate. Once Boxer gets in or gets super it’s a different story.

In this game though: I think Sagat needs to actually be on the offense, he’s not keeping Balrog out.

I want to play G but Sakura swimsuit #9 with open jacket is too good.

I feel your pain. The cuteness of that costume colour is almost too much to bear.
Falke got me using the same technique.

Yeah this Rog’s offense is probably the strongest Rog’s offense has ever been. Only ST comes close. Even if Sagat can keep him out it’s gonna be bad once he gets in. Not as bad as if you’re playing Alex or G, but you can die before you pick the right defensive options or just pick the wrong one and you’re stunned or dead.

At least the matchup vs Gief is looking pretty good.

This is painful to watch. :frowning:

That’s only if you were still a Gief Main. But you’ve shed that unholy part of yourself.

Ay ay, calm down. ST Rog is still the meanest Rog there will ever be. This one is the closest to that but he doesn’t get to just utterly pressure you in silly ass ways like ST rog did. Or kill you from one grab miscreen.

Or link a super from a a dash upper.

That’s approximately how my games vs Gief went yesterday. It’s… not pretty.

I hate the King’s fwd dash

it feels like i have to wait forever and a day to press a button after doing it.
Why am i dashing in the first place? fuck if i know lol

Either to reposition in the midscreen, or because you haven’t moved forward for the last two rounds and your opponent’s not ready AT ALL so somehow dash-up throw works

But why move forward at all? You have TIGER TIGER TIGER

Capcom gonna make me main Sakura, Menat and Falke because of swimsuit dlc. Smh

Y’all still tryin’ to play Street Fighter in Street Fighter V
That isn’t going to work all the time amigos
Blast your DMX and get in that ass and make those rush down characters respect THE KING

Bochan at times pursue his pressure because he knows the know.

R. Mika is going to stick her boot up your ass and you’re saying to yourself “Oh damn, I miss faborlated the calculations of my adjuacent tiger shot” when all you had to do was dash up and punch that bitch in the face.
