When people sa “streetfighter” it’s pretty obvious they mean “shoto fundamentals” this game has the fewest amount of “shoto fundamentals” out of basically all of the sf variants save for sf3.
Even the alpha games have more shoto fundamentals than this game… even cvs2 ffs. Sf3 and sf5 are outliers. Everything else, more or less “plays like streetfighter” at least in the shoto matchups.
The streetfighter examples that DONT play like streetfighter are always matchup based. Never system based. Sf3 and sf5 are system based. Sf4 is character: viper, yun, Rufus, fuerte, etc
ST: vega, sim
Sf5 is the opposite of sf4. In sf5 you have a cast of characters that just do whatever the fuck with a few that try and play streetfighter. Sf4 is a bunch of characters that play streetfighter and a few that just do whatever the fuck they want.
I knew sf5 was going to be shit when people were complaining about jabs… not the real problems like crouchtech, divekicks, option selects and delay tech.
Shit, it’s 2018 and you’ve got alioune talking about how tick throws are too strong in sf5. Seriously? Smh.
There’s a good chance that the fight with the Ken player was a laggy connection. Don’t see that there’s a point in criticising the game based on a bunch of sloppy online games. Even Eita doesn’t play like that in tournaments… anymore.
You think foreball and cr.mk are the end all be all of shoto fundamentals? Interesting.
My urien has a pretty mean fireball and cr.mk game… his shoto fundies are pretty crap.
Also, “insert evo winning player” arguments are pretty bad. According to watching punk it’s extremely easy to wiff punish people’s mediums with your heavies… on reaction.
I mean, daigo, known to be THE shoto player, never ever losing to tokido in sf4 save for maybe one tournie that I can remember, dropping THE shoto and losing to tokido in the shoto mirror… kinda craps on the whole “shoto fundamentals are alive and well” in sf5, theory. The fact that most ryus dash and jump around like the ground is lava… is also pretty telling, especially when it even reaches up into diamond and grandmaster players games.
Thats quite unfair. Daigo was on a completely different level than everyone else in SF4. Look at his results in SF4 with TT characters vs his results with TT characters in SF5.
In SF5 he does not have that knowledge advantage that he enjoyed in sf2, 3rd, and to a large degree sf4. Especially with him streaming all his strats. Plus how hungry is Daigo at this point in his life?
Look at the competition he is up against, its not a small group anymore. Its a very large and extremely hungry group, who have all learned from him either directly or indirectly.
Finally, the knowledge gap that Daigo enjoyed during his prime years, just does not exist anymore. The game is disected, and gameplay optimized at a ridiculous rate. Info is diseminated almost immediately. Plus players get significantly more hours honing their skills, than they did before == people are catching up, if not surpassing === outcome of an equal playing field.
Well on one hand I can understand why since they want to be kept secret till showtime. Thus giving them a potential edge. On the other hand…well…it is a potential way to get recognized.
I’ve pretty much wrecked every Cody Ive come across, I’d scratch that one down as potentially a bad one for him. Sagats V Reversal (although good for me) is probably salt inducing. Far knock down reset, pretty damn good. EX to get in - V reversal back to zoning.
I’ve also pretty much wrecked every Abi, but I’m holding on that, I think Abi might be even. If I actually get to play anyone that doesnt just rotate special moves ( and that’s high Diamonds).
Really feels like Sagat beats birdie, Ive played multiples, birdie is like Kara uppercut S tier and Sagat can do to Birdie what Birdies usually doing to everyone else - keeping people at arm’s length.
I might make a provisional tier list for him soon. I’m not sure he’s got as many bad ones as I first thought.
What are Sagat’s bad matches really? Bison, G, Balrog, Menat are the obvious ones. Ryu, Falke, Rashid and Ibuki are also candidates for being bad, anyone I’m forgetting?
I will say that one of the most depressing things I saw in sfv, was watching John choi trying to play ryu like a shoto in a tournament match and got destroyed lol. Think it was back in season one.
From my experience Sim isn’t bad for Sagat. High tigers cover a good space against float and Sim lacking horizontal fireballs is a problem. His offense is meh too. Slide’s annoying, but not particularly scary. Not sure if Sagat wins, but it’s definitely not bad.
Juri is definitely an annoying matchup. I’m not sure if it’s a bad one because you can definitely very easily sit on a lead but if Juri’s in the lead then good luck catching up.
Super bad matchups in my experience are Dhalsim, Bison, Balrog and Alex for some weird reason. I also struggle against FANG, Nash, Menat and Guile (aka the zoners) but I’m not sure if that’s me or the character because I’ve always had trouble against them.
I think Juri slightly beats Falke, she has a lot of stuff to shut down any attempt at playing from long range thus forcing Falke to chase her in the neutral on her own terms, and good luck with that because Juri is just that much more mobile than Falke.
Not a terrible matchup though, very dealable with. I expect most online Juris to play the matchup all wrong anyway.
