Well someone is always gonna be stronger than the rest, this in and of itself is not an issue. If it isn’t Cammy, then it’s someone else.
However, this strength you’re talking about isn’t necessarily translating negatively on the competitive level of the game. Top echelons of every tournament have a varied turnout of characters with most of the cast being repped.
The biggest argument about constantly buffing willy nilly is still SF4 Fei. Dude got nothing but buffs 3 year straights and then people got to know what’s good.
I disagree with that variety you’re talking about, in almost every top 8 we’ve seen at least 3 of the actual top 5 occupying 6 spots often with 2 characters who hardily were under the top 10. Last weekend Big Bird entered the top 8 in Hong Kong with Ken, but he didn’t use him 'til the end of day 2. Tokido could even use Ryu for one match, but that wouldn’t be considered as ‘hell yeah, Ryu made it into top 8’.
Top characters will be forever a thing, no question, but I don’t see why Capcom will stop nerf hammering the best ones when they did before. Even at the end of Season One TT users asked for just buffs for the weaklings, but we know how it goes. Fixing heavily 5/10 is easier than doing the same with 25/30, time is money and Capcom is here for business.
Well you also have to consider that a lot of people have been playing their characters for years, pros especially. Rendering their characters useless overnight isn’t a good image for Capcom.
It’s not an easy answer. Technically you could leave him be and just buffs other characters. Nothing wrong with him being top dog.
He just has hella options and in a lot of cases eating throw is better than getting hit with some nonsense.
Really only thing I’d like nerfed are his air options. Fuck keeping track of all the shit he can do when his feet leave the ground. Plus he has good ground normals, good fireballs, a dumb vt1 AND a dp to worry about.
Agreed, the problem is when they don’t listen, even after Season 2. S1 top tiers are all in the mid low sea of mediocrity outside Cammy, Necalli and partially Karin, but even the latter was butchered thanks to Punk performances. Abigail and Rashid were toned down, but at least they’re still viable. Even general mechanic changes affected the tier list, we have to wait and see what Capcom has in mind. The game has 3 different level of characters viability imo:
-good characters able to play SF +robbery to full SFV
characters with faults but good robbery factor to keep with those in the first group
characters who need to constantly outplaying the others -robbery factor
VR2 (avoid + attack VRs together)
VS2 (selectable)
VR during VT at a cost
CA2
V-Cancel (maybe)
I’m not big on custom combos as they are hard to balance. I can totally see Bison ‘painting the fence’ with Psycho Axe and S.HP. It would be peak ridiculousness.
Yes, but how do you nerf his air options?
You could add more recovery to his air fireball, but there is a lot already and if you have a read, you can punish it.
You can make his DFP not be plus on block, that would help for sure.
If he crosses you up, you can really make him pay already. People hit me out of it all the time (even with CC).
His EX DFK is the only thing that is really strong, maybe he should only be able to combo into lights on hit.
Having DP is really good, but you can jump his if you have a read. You can also punish it with full jump combo and he is a 900/900 character. I think that risk/reward is fair there. You can also drop out of it in some situations (like when Bison goes for meaty after back throw) and punish it.
His VT is really great. When I play against other Akumas, I just let them throw fireballs and throw me. Not worth challenging it. They could nerf the damage he gets from fireballs/DP in VT. That would help, but I hope they don’t make it too low.
A SHITLOAD of times, this game inputs are hilarious. Too quick= run, too slow= don’t even come out.
Funny thing is, if you rewatch your match, you did it right. Don’t make me start with that.
