SFV Lounge: Ken is high mid. Kage is barely mid. F2P still coming

Of course there would be new issues. I’ll look at it.

Lol wth is “bnb theory” Jin

A term I made up to describe a subsection of a more well known term called combo theory.

http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Combo_Theory

Term tends to be used more in marvel/anime games as they usually have combo theory up the ass, but yeah.

Combo theory is the stupidest term in the FGC.

I wonder who put it on the SRK wiki lol.

Maaaaaan, this is just crap BS. Chasing people is hard todo on this game. You are always at risk of some shitty forward moving special/normal/dash in when you try to bulldog in sf5. It really can’t be defended against. If it could people would be beating infil by walking him down, but no one beats him that way, people beat him by knocking him down, waiting for him to corner himself without actually bulldogging him, or making him chase them.

Every frame you press forward, you are not blocking. You can’t block things like rogs dash straight, on reaction. It’s like a 10 frame move. Things like juris st.hk,fireballs at certain distances, etc etc etc are basically unblockable. Your walk and block has to be anticipatory and that means it’s rhythmic/readable meaning the opponent can get counterplay off of it and get mixups… just because you wanted to walk forward.

This is mainly due to vast huge stages. In the old school, like ST and even alpha 2. No one wanted to really move backwards as a style of play simply because one backwards jump and you were already cornered.

He only way I’ve found to combat this in a real intelligent way other than to allow my opponent multiple tries at hitting my face while I walk forward, is to treat stages like they are 5 stages:

Stage 1 is round start. 2 and 3 are halfway between round start and the corner, 4 and 5 are the opposite corners. Try and bulldog from 1 and you risk losing the fight because the opponent can detect a rhythm and start punishing your forward walks once you get to stage 2 or 3. Play stage 1 like it’s “real” neutral and don’t chase the opponent. Wait to hit a KD BNB and then you knock them about halfway towards the corne into stage 2 or 3… NOW you can start to bulldog them because any backwards movement on their part corners them.

Or maybe your bnb fully corners from round start… good for you. Have fun.

Games that don’t have many links or chain combos that are safe on block, tend to have safe on block specials, or are based on one hit cancel confirms, so you are asking for a game based on cancel confirms or safe specials.

Neither is bad, but you have to basically have one or the other and decide if that’s the style of gameplay you want. If you have neither the game becomes punishment based and hyper turtly, or just poky, which people get bored with, or the game becomes an offensive momentum based nightmare. There are only so many ways that fighting games can be specifically programmed within their normal limits and barriers.

Imho, link based games leave more room for freedom, style wise.

One thing I wish sf5 would do is give a damage boost to moves that are specifically used for poking. Shit like like Chun/Urien/Karin st.mk should do 100 damage and be -3 to -4 on block. Make them have to be spaced well, but make them give decent damage on hit so they have to be respected. I get tired of hitting people with 3-4 st.mk’s and they still don’t need to respect the poke and still stick shit out. That’s not street fighter. In sf every decision you make should have some form of consequence that you don’t want to happen.

Funny enough in S4 Capcom gave a 10 damage boost to a few poking buttons. I know Chun s.mk and Vega claw s.mp got it. It really isn’t enough but it’s better than nothing.

For whatever reason button damage in 5 seems low. In SFV a high damage heavy does 90 damage, but in SF4 I’m pretty sure one button damage went as high as 110. It’s one thing I hate about normal AA’s, where the jumper only takes 80-100 damage but if they land their attack you can eat 300+.

I will say that I think the above is why air throws are so prevelant.

Unfortunately only about the first minute of that video is walking and blocking… or bulldogging. The rest is footsies stuff. But if your opponent is playing footsies… there’s no need to bulldog.

What he says in the video works fine against people that try to stand their ground or try and play footsies. It doesnt work versus people that just runaway and try to make you guess their unreactable special and mix that up with dashins and aerial approaches.

But he did admit that. He says in the video that you just have to figure out how your opponent is going to approach you…

Yes exactly which is why your walk and block is now in THEIR mixup.

I do this shit to people as well when I’m feeling assholy. It’s pretty stupid.

Anyone playing tonight

Maybe it’s a little tougher than older games, but very doable. Nobody runs away from me unless they eventually hit a corner. Only like Rashid and maybe one other character like Juri can actually run away to any real ability in this game. Like real runaway not I hate that they are jumping backwards fake runaway.

Rog can dash punch you but he’s an offensive character overall so he’s not going to be doing a dash punch unless he gives a tell as a charge character any way. There’s no reason for Rog to run away so he won’t actually run away. He may bulldog you but that’s about it. No way that character can do anything close to being real lame or running away from you.

If you’re a really old man then I guess you’ll be afraid of them kinda reading your walk, but whatver they’re going to do is always more commitment than you walking forward and them hitting flying specials or buttons that are moving towards you gives up the space they were trying to get any way.

I’ll play tonight.

I’ll just be doing ranked tonight since I just got to Ultra Diamond hell. I’ll see about the week. Got 8 win streak which is best in a while for honest Falke. I need a command grab. I only got the 8 win streak cuz Diamond Roo dropped game winning combo but I’lllllll take it.

Congrats, I hope to join you in the not too distant future. Maybe I’m just on some kind of lucky streak but I’ve been progressing through Super Diamond at a pretty fast pace. I’m already at the halfway point at 22.5k with probably less than 100 matches after first reaching Super Diamond. When I first got to Diamond I was getting blown up constantly with a win percentage in the 30’s for months.

I think I will hit Ultra Diamond eventually but Master might take a really long time. At that point I think you’d be losing 100+ to Diamonds and even a ton to Super Diamonds. I might have to wait another year or so for the points to keep trickling down so the weaker Plats can make Diamond without really improving so I can more consistently 2-0 them.

Which one of you is willing to take one for the team so Capcom can give us some news and content before the month is over?

Buff sagat

Testing some stuff out. Can everybody see the emojis in my title?

When you play Sagat occasionally in battle lounge, lock the opponent out with shots and uppercuts and win, and Sagat laughs, and you laugh…
