Yeah not to be that person, but I really don’t like the black characters in Street Fighter V. Your choices are what? A degenerate slob or a murderous greedy thug. Meanwhile there are like a dozen different blondes for some reason.
Ed’s story kinda redeemed Balrog’s character a bit.
I’m not sure birdie is black. It’s hard to tell because the designs in Street Fighter are so stylized it becomes hard to tell what a character’s ethnicity is.

Birdie used to be white so he doesn’t really count and people will always like the old thug Mike Bison thing so he’s not going anywhere. If you don’t like the black characters in SFV there isn’t much else to like in the other SF games.
The only “black” SF character I legitimately like even in a casual way is Dudley because at least his stereotype isn’t common for black characters.
Most black fighting game characters are not appealing to me in general. If they’re a guy they’re usually way too stereotyped and most anime fighters are pretty much not going to have a black guy or girl period because that’s just not what anime is about.

If you use one bar before you have both regeneration will stop for a little while. Some characters also use the meter differently. When I played Geras, his reverse time move took both bars of the defense meter because he turns back time for four seconds and is invincible the whole time. Doing a perfect block and using the uppercut out of it to get a combo takes one bar from each, and flipping out of a combo will take 100% of the defense bar.
On a character to character basis, it will be important to see what moves cost which bar.

Sf is definitely guilty of stereotypes. I think a lot of the designs wouldn’t fly if it was a new IP but since sf is 31 years old that kind of thing has been grandfathered in.

Birdie is black? Doesn’t look black to me.
SF is created from a Japanese cultural point of view though, and they’ve got an entirely different rubric of cultural wrongs to work through. They’re not really thinking about American social issues when they put characters in.

Or anyones cultural issues. Look a Fuerte. Remember the concept art for Rufus? He was black but instead of popcorn he had a bucket of chicken lmao.
I think Blanka was originally supposed to be brown skinned as well but the whole brown savage with chains was too much for even the early 90s.

Part of the reason characters like T.Hawk probably won’t come back anytime soon is like Chief Thunder in KI he’s just part of this hard stereotype that SJW culture is really against now. Washington Redskins have enough time fending off the 1,000 white people and 100 native americans who have a problem with their team.
SFV has found a way to fit a good bit of that old 90’s cheese in, but T.Hawk would be tough for today even for Capcom.

I mean SF4 wasn’t that long ago. As long as the Redskins continue to be a team I think he’ll get a pass, though I admit I don’t know any Native Americans to say.

Yeah Capcom has found a way to not budge tooooo hard with the characters, but they still have to subdue themselves a bit like with the camera not actually showing Mika’s butt during super and such. Laura was obviously picked to replace representation for Blanka as Blanka does a bit too much of portraying Brazil as place where jungle people eat bananas.
