Best tierlist so far.
Fuck MK11, this game will save the FGC
Is there some kind of summary of the game’s mechanics. A list of changes would b cool.
Have they changed the combo system from dial-a-combos to frame links?
Utsay Hiyah!!!
Welp
Not really too much to say about MK11 as of now.
Visually it’s obviously got huge upgrades. More gore, more blood, more detailed fatalities, the winscreen slo-mo actually kind of works here better vs Injustice where it just seemed awkward most of the time
Sonya’s MK11 look is IMO a downgrade. Her MKX self looked better, at least in the face department. Getting Ronda to voice/model just seems as needless pandering and riding on the hype train behind her WWE success, albeit a year too late
The UI looks alright, wanna know what the final menus will be like, though I’m not sure I dig the Golden theme. It didn’t work for SFV, doesn’t work for the grittier nature of Mortal Kombat either.
The mechanical changes seem nice on the surface but if you look at it - it’s almost like NRS is blending MK and Inj closer together, not hard to see one influencing the other. The removal of Run is good, means there will be less gimmicky/corner carry combos, dash cancels for blocks means there will again be the constant danger of mistiming your buttons like MK9 should you try to punish an incoming opponent. Defensive/Offensive meter split is weird but NRS never truly stays true to stuff they add with each game, we’ll see how it works out but I’m not surprised if they add that to Injustice 3 in 2021 or some shit. X-Rays are now truly a comeback mechanic, but for some reason they made it actualy refill if you miss it? The fuck?
Gear was pretty much expected to be added, but I’m glad they’re taking the Variation system further with this implementation. Seems like there will really be dozens of different combinations. Some Kosmetic customization like different intros is also really cool.
The story is what I’m interested the most in but right now they’re kinda keeping it under covers besides the merging timeline shit. Not sure I like that move as I was expecting them to just proceed normally by rewriting Deadly Alliance and Deception before preventing Armageddon 2.0, I guess that’s up to MK12 or whatever they’re gonna call it.
The roster is currently my biggest concern for the game. If the char select screen they’ve shown us today won’t go through too much of a change, then that caps out the game at 25 characters total, which is the same number as MKX at launch but when you consider all the basically confirmed members - it’s looking REALLY wack.
We already know 10 characters at least:
- Raiden
- Scorpion
- Sub-Zero
- Sonya
- Baraka
- Scarlet
- Liu Kang
- Shao Kahn (pre-order bonus)
- Kabal (teased)
- Geras
Another 6 or so have shown up elsewhere:
- Kitana (one of the menus)
- Jade (Tweedy apparently tried her out behind the scenes)
- Erron Black (was listed on stream as Sonic Fox’s main)
- Rain (also SonicFox’s main)
- Cassie (got briefly shown during a dev diary video)
- Johnny Cage (can be briefly seen in the blurry background, same dev diary video)
Then you have the MKX newbies, all of which will probably return too
- Kung Jin
- Takeda
- Kotal
- Ferra/Torr
- D’vorah
- Jacqui
Then you might as well add Kung Lao (I seriously doubt they would exclude him if Liu is in), Kano (somebody spotted him in the stage background), and Shang Tsung (was heavily hinted at in some of the MKX endings). And that’s basically it. All that’s left is hope that DLC actually brings more interesting characters into the mix, and there will only be 6 of them for now (plus probably another 6 in 2020), for a total of 37 characters by the end of MK11’s run.
So… yeah. Not looking pretty there
mfw Cody’s st.lk nerf means he can’t punish Birdie’s bullhead anymore
Topanga was right, Birdie a shit.
My son truly you will inherit the earth
Nah the Earth deserves someone better
" Digging into some of the under-the-hood stuff, I noticed I wasn’t able to run, and there was no stamina meter.
We don’t have them, no.
What is the reasoning behind that?
The overall fighting is, we’re moving in, it’s a little tighter. It’s focused more on what they call “footsies,” jockeying, space control. Our arenas are smaller, and it’s a lot more about strategy than all-out aggression. In Mortal Kombat X, it was way more of like a rushdown, get in the guy’s face, run up to them, make them guess high or low. So we’re really holding back on that, and making it more strategic. It’s more intense, and, I don’t want to use to word intimate, but…"
Ok Boon I’m interested…
I’m good with my bbtag noodle arms and ninja cat until samurai shodown comes out.
MK has cooties.
This is actually a really good read
I’m impressed, I’ll probably get Mk off the strength of this article alone.
Lowkey this is probably the second time I see NRS addressing SFV specific complaints in their IP’s. In Injustice 2 the thing was grown man zoning.
I’ll give them an A for effort at the least.
Put Noob Saibot and a new character with pretty feet in Boon and I’ll uninstall SFV.
I already know I’m buying the game. I’m one of the weirdos that buy NRS games for the single player content.
"There are options that use two segments. There are options that use up one segment from each bar. If you knock somebody down, and they want to escape and then get in their face, you can do a rollout, which is a defensive move, with an attack with it, so it uses one of each meter. And some of the moves that are super-powerful, those use two chunks of the meter. "
I like this bit.
I would appreciate more defensive options in SF5 that use meter.
This is another great yr for fighting games. So many options. I almost forgot about SamSho.
It’s good business. You see a bunch of people complaining about a certain aspect of your competitor? Make moves to do the complete opposite, and then push that feature.
Yeah its clear they were like, what do people not like about sf5 and mvci?
yeah lets do the opposite of that
Unironically interested if they improve the visuals.
Also, a megazord fighting game would do way better.
