Marvel would’ve pulled more numbers than Injustice. That is pathetic.
Dem Injustass numberz
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mahvel side tourney gets close to the entrants for IJ2. Guarantee you if Infinite made Evo it would have pulled bigger numbers. That is the shame of the event easily. These NRS people either just hate Evo that much or they just have no drive to enter their own shit. Shit is less than KOF 14 last year LOL. Cant beat Tekken 2 graphics KOF. So many ways to make fun of this.
I will say, the Smash numbers are impressive. The fact that both games have solid regular fighting game numbers and one of them is a game where 30+ year old men are still carrying huge TVs to play as mario and pikachu is quite amazing to say the least. Shit is like if 3rd Strike and SFV were pulling equal numbers and both were divided on which was better to play.
With that said, Smash sucks. I imagine something is going on if about a 1,000 less showed up for each game. Possibly the start of phasing out some of Smash rumors I’ve been hearing.
Blazblue tag numbers are impressive. It’s the better anime crack so I’m down with that.
DBFZ numbers do show a bit of the turn for anime people were expecting, but this is a far cry from the complete beatdown it was supposed to give SFV. Like usual, only so many people can do anime/crack even if its DBZ characters. The fact that it only beat SFV by little over a 100 people shows AE did some work at least. 2 big games over 2,000 is pretty credible.
Props to T7 also. I remember a time when stream monsters hated watching TTT2 with all of the jugglan and KBD twitching. They found a good middle ground for the visuals and gameplay to make it still Tekken, but more cinematic and less twitchy for people watching
A few Evo’s back, MKX had like a 50k pot bonus and had less entrants than Marvel.
The winner for Marvel took home like $1,500 tops.
That told me everything I needed to know.
Just 1500 ? That seems way too low.
Think my Cody is close to prepared. I still AA jab under pressure, but my ground game has come together, I have VT2 setups still need a true setup from CC sweep tho, and I need a no rise frame kill for command grab > St.lp meaty
It’s just a matter of making this all work and staying composed
I guess at minimum you can always just have a safe jump/meaty setup off CC sweep. You can put yourself into command grab range off the sweep and put the fear of god in them. I think like 90 percent of the time I’ve connected a CC sweep with VT2 the opponent decides to jump after I sit in their face on the HKD. Easy attempt to catch them meaty especially if they dont have an EX DP.
Long as you dont run into any weird matchups or uncomfortable ones sounds like you have a good shot.
The funny thing is next year the numbers for dbfz will be half.
All that hype about “dbfz having a large lead” didn’t last too long.
Streetfighter is what made fighters it has a history and legacy behind it that even sf5 can’t murder off that.
I also don’t think that sf5 is as bad as everyone likes to put on and I don’t think its really traditional sf either. However if you are good at sf5 you can probably be good at any fighter.
It’s funny to see how people act when the numbers are released.
Footsies for 2019
marvel vs capcom infinite has right now 121 people registered
both smash games lost together 342 people from last year.
2016 to 17 was a huge drop but the 2016 numbers where higher then usuall. most likely
due to people coming for the newly released sfv which played then smash too.
arcade edition brought not many new people into the game but that was to expected.
tournament numbers and (pc) playerbase is still healthy and will most likely stay the way.
dbfz did beat down mvci and thats what all the memes ect claimed. not sure why people bring sfv into this.
its actually surprising that it still managed to get more people into it then a street fighter title and thats actually impressive and shouldnt be belittled. the decision to pick it over mvci seems to be the right one.
i really wonder how the next year will be for tekken with two other 3d fighting games being out. glad to see the numbers increased and that a lot of people still playing it on pc.
Yeah, I was inaccurate on that. The 2nd place winner (Kaneblueriver) got $1,564 and Chris G got $4,692 for taking 1st. The total prize pool for Marvel was $7,802. For MKX, the total was actually $61,000.
Definitely not belittled, just easily expected. There wasn’t much anyone not expecting a DBZ IP game to put a stronghold on Capcom’s issues. Just with these numbers its easy to see that DBFZ has its limit somewhere.
People registered for DBFZ around the release. I’m curious to see the numbers of how many people will actually show up.
and what would that be…who do you blame for it?
I imagine a good amount will show. 2016 SFV shows what happens when you just have an explosion of people who know they have no shot of getting anywhere in the event entering. People love playing the fighting game they like, just not enough to have their odds of going 0 2 be near 100 percent.
I figured DBFZ would carry what SFV 2016 showed promise for (huge numbers that keep getting huger), but I think fighting games overall have shown that they have plateaued for Evo at a point. Injustice numbers being abysmal shows that these other IPs outside of Nintendo/Bandai/Capcom aren’t getting traffic at events.
Mainly that the scene for NRS games are rather weak no matter how much $$ is added to those prize pools. There’s definitely a correlation between $ and entrants, but not all the time.
Most of the top players spent more time complaining about SonicFox than actually entering tournaments to compete against him. Some believe NRS players are just conditioned to distance themselves from a game after 2 yrs…even though Injustice 2 isn’t even close to 2 yrs old yet.
I think it spoke a lot when I saw that interview with Phenom. They asked him if he wanted to get into Injustice 2 and he said “oh nah I dont wanna deal with that, competition too fierce”. Then they asked him about Marvel Infinite and he was immediately more interested in getting into that. Even if he never really did get into Marvel due to factors or whatever, it just shows that people are just distant towards NRS for many reasons. Both in and outside of the scene.
Money helps lead people, but if money was everything we would all be Moba/OW players. Which knowing eSports that money probably isn’t handled perfectly for the players either.
Also on that note, what you bring up reminds me of an example when CDMani/Jr was going off about how Sonicfox was going to have trouble with the new Injustice game and that he wasn’t just going to push people over in it. Like hour long beef footage on a stream over the shit. Haven’t really heard much about CD in that game while Sonicfox other than being on tilt every once in a while still is a big name in that game.
maybe people dont like to be dominated by a furry
Even commentators can’t escape the wrath of the furry
Funny enough, Perfect Legend, despite getting 13-0’d, was still the only one that was willing to try and take Sonic down at that time. His main issue was beating everyone else that stood in his way
