I agree with the gist of what Saitsu’s saying but for me it’s not about accepting that the game is shit. Instead it’s about accepting that certain core elements of the game are extremely unlikely to change, so we should gear our feedback towards improving the game we have rather than the game we wish we had.
CCs aren’t going to stop being good in neutral. VTs aren’t going to stop providing insane comeback factor. We probably aren’t getting a new defensive mechanic when they’ve made it a point to nerf all the existing ones.
There’s a lot of room to make the game better even without changing any of those things. But it’s not going to be a fundamentally different game than it is now. I get that it’s tough to accept that if you’re an SF fan whose not enjoying V but I also think it’s a waste of energy trying to convince Capcom to completely reverse their design philosophy.
Adjusting hitboxes on normals to be a bit stronger for a lot of the cast would do a lot to help footsies; same with adding trailing hurtboxes to certain normals so that they’re easier to whiff punish. There’s a lot you can do to improve this game without hurting its identity.
Making DPs do more damage on airborne opponents, extending hitboxes/hurtboxes in certain areas, improving projectiles for the characters that need it etc. All you really have to do is improve the midscreen gameplay tools and leave all the other dumbshit somewhat alone.
Nerfing the tits out of the dumbshit in this game does a disservice to it. The dumbshit is what gives the game an identity; its just the areas where the gameplay is lacking that need some improvement. Had they focused more on improving the midscreen tools in season 2 rather than the vomittrrhea thing they delivered, we’d have a more enjoyable game.
Where were you for Street Fighter IV? The same thing happened to it. With one major difference. Unlike now, some big names just flat out stop playing. This Street Fighter IV nostalgia needs to stop. Some of those old heads came back again for SFV, they didn’t like it. So they stop playing it. I can respect that. After listening to people say how bad SFIV was for near a decade and saying how it’s not “Street Fighter” seeing some of those same people throw on rose colored glasses now hilarious.
What boggles my mind is, after 2.5 half years, all the people that can’t seem to move on. If you don’t the game stop playing it. For the life of me, I can’t understand why someone would stick around to bitch about a game they hate rather than play a game they like. Love him or hate him, I can respect Mike Ross for saying I don’t this game, so I’m not playing it. Never thought that would something worthy of an accolade but apparently that’s where we are these days.
I get what you’re saying Darc and agree to an extent (fuck the people who show up in SFV streams just to trash talk the game for instance)
but it’s not as clear cut as liking the game vs. not liking it, there are also people like me who play periodically and might really enjoy certain parts of the game but have trouble sticking with it due to certain frustrations. or people who feel V is their best option despite its flaws due to other games having smaller communities / worse netplay / just being too dissimilar to SF to enjoy.
Lots of people quit SF4 too. Like I said though, the issue with SF4 is that people weren’t really honest about it.
I just stopped playing it altogether and my life has been great since. Learned that the right way to hustle up the Steam sales is to rack up a wishlist before the sale starts and then look at it afterwards. That way you can see which of the games you wanted went on sale.
Got it back to the srk white theme. Had to click on my profile pic, change the theme back and then save the changes. Seems like the only way to do it at the moment.
