Depends on the region
You’ll find out if you get him in the random select
Just watched this one today : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xapDtDwbUsw
The part about MK is wrong (maybe they’ve recorded it before patch), but something else really triggered me.
They’ve kept saying how Akuma with VT and full bar is too strong. Do you guys agree with this?
I am Akuma player, but I never get angry when I am put in situation like that. It’s not like the damage is guaranteed. You could still guess right and Akuma is left without bar and you get a punish.
Everything is too strong to somebody.
You could make a case for full resources for Akuma being too strong, but you could also question how often Akuma has full resources. Raging demon being as potentially cheap as it is makes sense because this is a game where you need resources in order to have a frame 1 invincible DP (and you need full resources just to activate the demon). If Akuma was in Season 1 he would by and far be the best character by even bigger of a margin than he is said to be now. As good as full resources Akuma is, the fact is that realistically Akuma can’t always have full super bar and full trigger.
If you watch an average set with Tokido, the amount of times that he has full super and full trigger are usually pretty low. With no frame 1 meterless dps and with how important Akuma’s EX moves are for making up for his lack of range to other characters, the amount of times you’ll encounter a full resource Akuma is rare. It’s not like raging demon does anything different than it does in other games and Akuma has been in games like 3S where full resources means he can put you in a reset of death off a 2 bar super that does 70 percent raw damage and is basically inescapable once you are reset. In SFIV he has access to essentially two raging demons if you pick Ultra 1 (although Ultra 1 has less guaranteed scenarios).
Realistically the amount of times Akuma has full resources in V just doesn’t come up enough to make it too strong. He has to burn EX meter to throw out the things that make him top tier and sometimes he will have to burn V Reversal as some frame traps are just too risky to risk the EX DP. Especially since he’s now the sole character with 900 stun. Which is why Abi had to get nerfed because before patch he was performing ToS’ on the best character in the game everytime he read a DP. Which you could argue that even for top Akuma players was a bit unfair.
While we are talking about EX DP … most people only talk about the startup of the reversals, but not the options against them.
Akuma’s EX SRK is great AA, but it is jumpable on wake-up, which means that both throw tech and reversal are beaten by the same option. Besides that, he has lower health and you can punish EX SRK with better punishes since he stays in the air for that long. That is why I don’t go for EX SRK as much with Akuma.
It’s the brightest star in the constellation Lyra. It’s also the Japanese name for M.Bison. In addition, it was also an ill fated automobile from the 1970s.
I don’t know how much you’ve watched Packz talk about stuff but he is generally hyperbolic like that.
For my money anytime a character dumps full resources into anything it should be really effective. I can see the frustration with how effective that set up is and how much it can pay out, but its also another (probably the most extreme) example of the situation that comes up fairly often in SFV where you have to guess for your life. Granted in this situation it is a really big swing if you guess wrong, which is also why it is probably so frustrating (another “big swing” comeback option that usually results in mad salt).
I don’t know that its too strong per se - its a fucked up mix up situation but as DevilJin sort of said its not something that is gonna align so often that you see it even once a set - but it is definitely another link in the chain that makes Akuma a straight motherfucker. And he needs a lot of links to get that chain around his massive beard.
So Arika is giving away post launch DLC characters for free and they are gonna add arcade mode to the game like after EVO or some shit.
How much did the game sell lmao
I’m not going to lie. I bought it. Probably only played it for half an hour. It was more support a cash strapped devs passion project that it was for actual interest in the game. That said, if Area shows up. I may have to delete it from my hard drive.
Area is super duper animu. Basically the Ingrid of the EX series. Does not visually look imposing at all but has cheap rocket punch gun to be powerful.
How many people from this forun play this game still?
I know majority of the cool kids on the SFV discord don’t even play it.
Most of the people that post here play the game. There’s like 3 or 4 people that still post just to converse with people that dont play, but that’s about it. That’s always been the case though. Not everyone that posts in a forum play the game that it’s concerning.
I still play it
But I left the discord months ago so I guess I’m not a cool kid anymore
I hardly post here but I play almost everyday.
Despite all the shit it gets, its still a good game.
Discord just exists for adhd kids who want attention anyway.
Definitely a lame-o
It’s a tolerable fighting game but a shit SF game. But you do you.
Like Jin said, Akuma with full resources is rare, especially against characters who forced him to use his amazing EX toolset. Obviously when that happens, getting out unscathed it’s even more rare.
I agree with the rest anyway, this Akuma doesn’t belongs to this game, like Ibuki, Menat, Guile and Cammy, but that’s Capcom fault.
MENAT BELONGS IN THIS GAME YOU TAKE THAT BACK!
The rest are cool too I guess
Yeah the one thing I’ve learnt through the years is there’s no perfect SF game. There’s just “the game” that everyone’s playing at the moment. You wanna play a SF that lets you pit yourself against the strongest and most competitive players in that era? You play that game. You don’t like that game? Sure “you do you” and don’t play it. But when the game reaches its apex of top level play, when it reaches that moment where everyone wants to be like the best players and everyone looks back at the hypest matches of the era… And you feel left out, don’t feel too bad because it was just “you doing you”.
After all that’s what I did when I quit CvS2 in disgust when RCs were discovered because they made it such “a shitty buggy game”.
That’s what I did when I quit 3S because I didn’t want to play Chun, Yun and Ken and everyone else was “competitively unviable”.
That’s what I did when I quit A3, because “Capcom never learns it’s lessons and keep introducing game breaking custom combo mechanics that skewer the risk and reward of the game”
That’s what I did when, after 6-7 years, many of them spent playing against the strongest players in my country, I finally quit SF4 because “Guy will never win a major.”
Quitting and “you do you” is fine, but glib quotes like “I quit it because it was a bad game” are cold comfort when watching all the high level play that eventually emerges tells you the simple truth:
Lots of people had fun with the game… To them, it was indeed a “good SF game”. But you never did discover that because you were too busy “doing you”.
Okay
Still a bad sf game tho
I’m not gonna look back to this game and be some sad weird person from the outside looking in, thinking “wowzers, look at all these people having fun”. I’m going to remember, “wow, this game pissed me the fuck off” and then be on my merry way.
