Sagat looks like a legit solid zoner.
…that wasn’t supposed to happen. Now I can’t be all snarky about how there’s no good space control in SFV anymore.
Well, everyone still has anti projectile tools. But that looked legit. Gonna have to take a look at his gameplay first, but (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) I might actually boot up SFV again and give him a go.
Then drop him within 2 hours.
It isn’t. It’s actually hilariously easy to play a low risk bison because he isn’t risking much…80% of the time. I have a legendary rant about Bison from 2 years ago that applied to this match. One fueled by active data extracted from me actively hitting training mode with Bison in real time and relaying information.
This is in no way me downplaying Problem X’s achievement and just saying that Bison is a criminally underrated character. For whichever reasons characters who can put a high amount of pressure through chip damage have been rated low in this game by people. So you have FANG and BIson who are at their strongest making people block. Even though they rack up a lot of damage not doing combos, people forget how much damage they rack up between grey damage and chip damage. BIson does have the advantage that he can hit you like a ton of bricks from time to time.
All in all it was a great Evo. The times were neutral was played were good, the shenanigans were fun and some smart decisions were made. If capcom is smart, they just strenghten the tools to fight over the middle of the screen and let Wrestlemania run wild on people. Just like in season 1, the pressure part of the game is working great, the neutral just needs a bit more help so that it isn’t a race to close the distance all the time.
Yesterday (saturday by the time now) I said that this was the best Evo year for SF5. This top 8 solidifies that comment. Players in general have gotten better at dealing with the base level shenanigans in some ends. Ibuki did some wild stuff, Mika did some extra wild stuff, Bison did the silly teleport cross ups, but at least we spacing became important in some of the match ups instead of never. Massive step forward for a diversity of strats.
Capcom announced things properly. We had a small Evo party at the LAN center where we play ranbats. 10/10 we all lost our shit when G was announced with that hype ass trailer. 80/10 at Sagat doing ridiculous shit with tiger shots.
Fuck a Negan, chuck plasma. Overall all the top 8s were great for the main games I watched. Good Job smash 4 being the donkeys. Actually who cares about them at this point. I’ll just say that its sad for them to not understand the same amount of joy the FGC gets from watching all these different games and being able to relate to them like we do with each other.
There’s a certain camaraderie that comes with playing fighting games. Each game has the same basic set of similarities so we can relate the highs and lows to each other. You may not like a game but you can sit down and watch something ridiculous unfold or appreciate good blocks. That’s the beauty of Evo sunday. That’s the strength of being a community made of communities. I’ve always hated the term FGC because it is a massive misnomer. It isn’t a a big community, its an jigsaw puzzle of different interests coming together in heartbreak, love and frustration.
That’s why you don’t sandbag this stage. You don’t sandbag on love. You definitely don’t sandbag on a big event that holds so many people together. If you’re willing to sandbag on the effort needed to slug through a thousand plus people fighting for a top stop, then you are sandbagging the communal experience that holds a lot of us together.
Evo sunday is the best sunday. I’m very happy that it was a great one for all the games on it.
Probably. I did drop SFV for several reasons.
Though one of those reasons was that I didn’t find a characterthat fit me.
I’m still impressed by G, he makes a lot of other newcomers (particularly the Neo Shadaloo duo) look like soulless afterthoughts.
They taking a cue from dbfz and tiger shots are now weak projectiles you can dash through.
I’m talking more neutrally.
His ability to stand in one place and not let an Akuma or Mika player hit him for 20 to 30 seconds is something almost no other Bipson player on CFN I doubt is capable of doing. Sure he’s low risk once he gets in and hits a lot of buttons, but to play him low risk in the neutral with his walk speed is near impossible for most everyone that isn’t Problem X. Especially vs those types of characters.
A Rashid or Cammy that is stocked with meters most Bisons would have to pee their pants just to even have half the composure he does neutrally. Problem’s ability to consistently stop dashes with things like c.MP (which against high tiers is the start of death for him if he whiffs) is what allows him to keep things from snowballing out of his favor.
G is growing up slowly in me, I’m honest. I’m everyone’s bitch 'til Makoto comes back to me. I’m taking the @Frost way of life.
G looks amazing.
Sagat looks amazing.
Fuck the haters. Top Hats Rise Up.
Problem X was also able to react and adapt to Fuudo and Tokido answer with shorts to prevent his dashes, he didn’t crumbled. Instead he found the solution quickly, great adaptation.
You’re one of us again, captain?
How many rank matches is 200,000 FM again
How much does 1 character cost with real life money again
Game is still 6 shades of ass but I don’t want bad things for it. Once I can free up some money for PS Plus, I’ll start fixing up the Zeku subforum. That character has a lot of tiny optimization stuff that needs to get written down.
The Sagat and G stuff is because capcom did a good job. If you’re going to criticize something then you should be able to praise it when things are done right. Overall Capcom has done this season absolutely right as far as communicating with the fanbase. You can choose to feel any which way about power levels of character or their animations. The timely delivery, the WSO sessions, and this reveal have all been S tier in communication.
Capcom has set a standard that they need to keep in mind for perpetuity of the franchise. This year is how every year should be handled. They’ve shown they can do a great job delivering content; now its up to them to keep it consistent.
Not shown in the trailer: tiger shots cost 100 health to use, and Sagat has 800 hp
I’ve seen enough Bisons to know that Problem won because he is THAT good and he defeated Tokido in spite of Bison’s myriad of weaknesses. He has the rushdown power of Galtu, the precision teledashes and vskills of Venom, and the patience of Tampa all rolled in one - Truly the best and most well rounded Bipson in forever. He rarely misses a beat and has slowly worked his way up to the top.
That is pure dedication and discipline on his part.
Don’t even try to take this away from him, not even an iota, this is 100% his.
I figure what happened with SFV is the first season they went full eSports/protect the casuals by saying they didn’t want a game where the horizontal was too strong. This is why Sim has slower buttons and an arcing fireball and why shotos have shorter buttons and have to go in more.
Then Season 2 came and they had to put Guile in the game. I think they came to a point where they felt they didn’t want to heavily redesign him and figured with him only having two base special moves that if they killed what Guile does, that wouldn’t go anywhere with the fans. Basically they went with making the fireballs a bit more jumpable than usual, but gave him new ways with V Skill and trigger to continue to lock up the horizontal while still having some of the best space control buttons in the game. I think at the point of Guile they finally caved in and said the fuck the can’t control horizontal thing.
Juri they knew they couldn’t have spam the screen like she did before. Her old style basically just isn’t what SFV is about at all (everything plus all the time flying at you super fast including meterless stuff), so they probably felt it was easier to change her up. So far not exactly for the better, but she at least is solid at space control and keeping people from hitting buttons.
Now characters like Menat, Falke and Sagat are feeding into this. That’s why I figured Sagat’s shots would solid (and improve with trigger) since they’re slowly, finally getting away from this horizontal control is bad for the kids thing. Shotos that aren’t Akuma have to suffer for it, but hey.
I think I’m going to boot up the game again. IIRC when I left I was close to 200k FM so if I buy one of those characters and do their stories and whatnot I might be able to get the other soon afterwards.
Honestly more interested in G than Sagat with his Hakan/Frank West kind of power-up nonsense.
Sagat makes Ryu look even worse.
That’s sad.
If Gat is legit - and looks he is - then mad buffs to Ryu and Ken are in their way for S4. And if bae will be there…
First time in my life where I can’t wait for the winter while I’m still sweating like a pig because of summer, that means Capcom doing OG Capcom things. Fixing the netcode, the input lag, the things that makes the neutral still a bit too silly and the competitors will be buried. Again.
