SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

If Capcom changes the meta one more time I’mma clap this shit up

why am I awake

Mago is the ultimate tier whore in SFV. He went from Karin in Season 1/2, to Rashid in Season 2.5/3, to Cammy now.

Wait, wasn’t Season 2 the VT comeback festival with Ibuki, Balrog and Laura leading the band, and Season 3 was the one that tried to emphasize footsies again?

Here’s for old man Valle taking EVO with Blanka chan.

Just played a game where the stun sound effect and animation appeared, but my opponent didn’t get stunned? Wtf.

Sounds like some kind of rollback fuckery.

NL was someone I thought was going to be a given in top 8. With him being knocked into losers by WildTaiwanese (Laura player), his road is going to be a lot tougher. In fact, the losers bracket is looking hella shark infested. I can’t wait to watch SFV later today!

It was, but Karin ground game was strong enough to compete without relying on VT comebacks, but at the end using a VT comeback character was (is) more smarter in the long run. Karin was strong mostly because Punk used her like anyone else. S3 isn’t ‘let’s play footsies again’ ,without a good VT you’re doomed now. The 16 first characters all have a VT who enhance their abilities without looking overwhelming, probably only Laura had the possibility to do comebacks from it, but she is a momentum based character. After her, Ibuki,Balrog and Urien starts a new era where you can deplete an entire life bar if the opponent fucked up one guess.

Mago used Karin because her Rekka VT, she was barely top 5 in S2 and she wasn’t in S1. After that end of the year loss against Nemo where he’s crying in front of the monitor, he takes the ‘pick a top tier’ route, but isn’t working well. Simply Mago didn’t find the perfect character for him still, he looks lost without Fei Long or even Sagat, like Punk he rely too much on his footsies ability, but you can’t survive with only that in SFV.

Never change man :joy:

Only now u got this ?

Happened to me several times but now I just block ps4 users and all is fine.

Karin was near top tier largely because she could do VT comeback worthy sequences without v trigger. You could argue that only like Laura and a couple other characters could do what she could do off standard or counter hit conversions without v trigger. Especially considering she corner pushed like crazy off everything.

Karin worked where she was honest until she hit you and then it got dishonest pretty fast. Not that that’s the worst thing in the world, but it was what it was. Gets 2 bars and swings s.hk and c.mk around until they hit and if you get hit it could be the end.

You need footsies in a basic sense to win with any character, but you also need to convert those footsies into cheap shit or lame situations for the opponent. Winning isn’t about being nice.

Punk was basically the only reason she was top 5 in S2. No one else was making her look top 10. Shit, the fact that punk dominated so hard with her and she STILL wasn’t considered the best… speaks volumes.

Still amazed they nerfed Karin so hard.

Only thing I ever felt was op was throw loops and damage. Honestly felt she was mostly fine.

Karin wasnt top 5 in Season 2.

She was definitely in that glut of 8-9 characters who were all top 5 in season 1.

Akuma was severely underrated in season 2. Ryi was probably overrated in season 1.
