I don’t know if I laugh or cry looking at that picture. They didn’t follow anything there.
SFV has nothing to do with it. I’m just shit at fighting games and shit at theory fighting.
Try every time and fail at both.
That mika mirror was insane.
Abi vs laura is a really interesting matchup.
Froz’s dad continues to make child support payments via excellent YT vids. Lots of good info here for all of us out there fighting the crazed masses:
Evo brackets are up!
Huh, necalli feels good…
Edit: Oh and Blanca is a thing, still keep forgetting he’s in the game. Sfiv online Blanca ptsd rearing it’s ugly head.
Seriously, WTF is going on with SFV…i can’t play it anymore.
Whenever i reach the character select game drops below 30 fps from the steady 60+ i normally get.
Do you use a nVidia card?
There has been some reports of people having trouble with the latest GeForce driver and having to tweak their configuration for the game to run smooth again.
Darn, dont see any Nishikin in there. Luckily the monster man Wolfgang is in there to hold it down for the jungle.
EVO is and forever will be more interesting than Capcom Cup, at least for me.
Outside Nox2 there’s a good Zeku representation, I’m looking forward to it.
i fixed it.
Had to set vsync to 0 value in the .ini file manually.
Local guys got multiple shotouts during the army stream yesterday.
Got local scene promoted to a bunch of dudes on base.
Next season of ranbats for SF5 probably bumps into a 14-18 weekly affair if we’re lucky.
Does necalli have bad matchups…?
His VT makes every match-up a 5-5 at worst so nah not really
The fuck…this character is stupid.
Speaking of that.
VS Top 5 Top Tier MUs Chart
(some numbers probably not final or could change)
I was planning to do a matchup chart for the game a while ago, but of course that takes a long time. Plus the main issue with huge matchup charts is that they kinda go over a long spread to really just explain that 5 or 10 characters are better than everyone else. Like it’s nice to know that character number 16 has a good matchup vs character number 20, but it’s character number 16 vs character number 20 and neither are probably good enough to place top 3 at CPTs regularly (and at best may just be good selections/counter picks vs tops).
Figured I would do this so people can get an idea of what the characters possibly are in relation to each other matchup wise without having to a make a huge chart. If your character fares well vs top 5, they’re probably in a decent spot. If they have mostly 4s or the rare 3/3.5 vs a top 5, probably shouldn’t bother trying to win CPTs with them. There’s some grey area where there probably are some characters that are solid vs top 5, but get blown up by some mid tiers, but in some ways you’re probably better off with being blown up by a mid tier then getting destroyed by the characters that show up in pools and later parts of brackets all the time.
Picked Akuma, Cammy, Guile, Ibuki and Menat since these are the characters that have won events most often in the CPT and are played by several of the jersey wearers. Making it pretty obvious that by overall toolset and tournament results, these are the current best 5 characters to win an event with.
Notes:
-
Ryu and Gief only characters that I felt had 3/7 or 3.5/6.5 matchups. Ryu vs Guile is pretty obvious one at this point since Guile is basically better at doing what Ryu wants to do while Ryu suffers having pretty poor anti projectile options vs Guile’s boom recovery and getting out normaled. Guile’s new flash kicks on top of Gief’s nerfs are murderous in that matchup now and Menat vs Gief is basically a display of why Menat can just press buttons all day vs most of the cast (and more so vs a character who has very fair hurtboxes on his buttons). She can throw and recover her buttons from a space that is pretty much negligible against flex and since her zoning is basically like dealing with button based projectiles, Gief’s anti projectile options do near nothing for him in this matchup. She’s basically everything Gief could hate wrapped up in a character.
-
Best non top 5 vs top 5 are Rashid, Blanka, Necalli, Urien, Boxer and Birdie. If you play one of those 6 it’s the most possible for you to top 3/win a CPT event without playing top 5.
-
Some characters in the middle with potential to go up.
Scores reference
20 or Below = Pretty much should stop playing this character in tournaments. Even the non CPT ones. May not even entirely encompass the worst in the game, but they are trash vs all of the top 5 with maybe one exception matchup at best. (Ryu, Nash, Gief).
Between 21.5 to 22 = Not worth bothering trying to win CPT events with, but if you play them may have a solid match or 2 vs top 5. If you dont main any other characters that do better vs top 5 then you can at least get some relevant match wins in. Some of these characters bully around lower tier and may even do well vs some of the top 5, but overall probably have to work too hard vs top 5. Probably the most grey area overall or possibility to sway in different direction in future patches. (Dictator, Sim, Abi, Zeku, Cody, Laura, Alex, Karin, Chun, Ken, Vega, Fang, Ed, Sakura)
22.5 = At the point where it may be tough for you to top 3/win CPT consistently, but do particularly well vs a good amount of the top 5. May have some rough matches vs non top 5, but could be good to have in the pocket vs some top 5 (Mika, Juri, Kolin, Falke)
23 and above = Very capable of top 3ing/winning CPT without being top 5.(Rashid, Blanka, Necalli, Urien, Boxer, Birdie)
Nice, in depth and cute analysis.
I am not sure Gief is 4 against Akuma, might be a 5, but that evens out with you being generous with a 3 rather than a 2 vs Menat.
But I will stick to playing Gief on tournaments, only switching to Sakura or Falke to deal with pesky Sims or Menats!
I am sure we will get relevant buffs in S4… yes, granted… Totally going to happen.
Maybe I’ll quit with the 1 character per week thing and just play Cammy/Menat like I thought of doing before
Someone should kick ono’s ass for adding Blanca to sfv…
Yeah after looking at Gief vs Akuma some more it’s probably even or at worst 4.5 for Gief (leaning towards 4.5 just because of what Akuma can do in VT). Gief is good at dealing with shoto buttons any way and Akuma basically cant do any demon flip/air fireball shit without taking a punish. Basically all of the raggo air shit that people hate and find disrespectful about Akuma he cant do vs Gief. Which is kinda unique in a landscape where he’s kinda free to do that when the fundamentals arent working vs a lot of the other characters.
Yup. He’s even more of a problem now because he’s not just a character for online trolls with funny names. At this point I’m convinced hes near top 10 or pretty much there. Best Blanka in a long time and criminally underused. Think it’s said he still has his historic bad match vs Rog, but he otherwise is pretty damn good vs most of the other cast. He’s like Cammy where he doesn’t have an amazing CC button, but his heavies are still really good for other reasons including his slide being very good vs fireballs and sweep being one of the best sweeps in the game. Both tough or impossible to punish without meter max range.
Does really good vs Menat since she has no good punish for LP ball and the things she needs to do stop him from light balling get blown up by heavier balls. V Skill into hop j.MK or j.HP punishes her heavy buttons pretty easily. There’s a spot he can sit in where she cant throw a heavy if he’s in v skill crouch or she will get jumped on and comboed. He also has other weird shit vs her like his hori ball hit box passes through the straight and diagonal down orb releases. She has to do the upwards orb release to hit hori ball for whatever hit box reasons so it lets him ball even more raggo vs her then he probably should.
Characters that can force Menat to block or hop over her buttons easily do well vs her and he’s probably the best at that other than Rashid, Ibuki and Necalli. Vega is not bad at doing this also and is way more mobile than her so I think he’s not bad vs her also.
