Thankfully no. I try to only play online when my wife is at work or otherwise out of the house. Watching me play gives her anxiety sometimes and she is forever streaming stuff which makes SFV’s spotty online even better.
Also Ranked/Casual is Battle costume 4 lyfe. Not that she’d be any more impressed with that one but it is theoretically slightly more tasteful. Theoretically.
Gloria may get me to switch for awhile but I’ve always really like Laura’s Battle costume so I’ll probably wander back to that before too long.
I’ve been in a bit of a self deprecating state these last two weeks because I lost my “mojo” and got bodied down to like 18500LP which is far too many points lost for me. I know I sounded like a bitch shitting up the discord with AH BLOO BLOO BLOO posts but when I Iose in fighting games I feel some type of way.
I’ve been playing less frequently because I sold my soul to a F2P phone game but I hopped back on yesterday and had some good matches. I ran into a guy I hadn’t seen in rank for a bit and beat his Karin. Dude is pretty good but I feel good in the Karin MU so I felt confident going in. I shook this one Bison player to the point that I could feel him basically saying “Just end me” so that was nice too. I got back to about 19K which I’m content with.
I’m still playing like booty sweat but I def feel a little less like crap now.
@Doctrine_Dark Hey I don’t know what part of the states you reside in but if we could maybe do a quick FT2 just to test connections than I’d be happy if we could play each other. There’s this Juri/Cammy player that is like SD and plays Cammy in the most online fashion and it’s fucking annoying. I don’t know who this guy is but he started randomly hitting me up and I’m embarrassed to admit he’s bodied me before. But this past weekend I ran into him again and started learning how to counter some of his really really dumb Cammy shit. But those matches highlighted just how fucking pathetic my defense is. Good god I don’t know how to block and even when I do I get so scared lmao
So if we could try and get games on the weekend or whenever you are on that would be cool. I know you’re rank lord so they don’t have to be super long if our connections ends up being decent/good.

Long matchmaking queue times
Shouldn’t take me 30mins to get a 2minute game with the chance of no rematch.
Tons of shit that makes the midrange messy
Crush counters deter pressing buttons, dashing promotes jab checking - one loses to the other, creates a mess within the midrange where it’s less about whiff punishing and baiting normals and more about containment of low risk options.
V-Triggers are really starting to show how bland default movelists and designs are
Combos, set-ups, mix-ups, stronger/extended pressure are all locked behind peoples VTs and it makes your default play from neutral and non-VT knockdowns boring as fuck and you have limited/linear oki options without.
Top 5 kinda defy a lot of the original design philosophy right now
IIRC pre-release this game was supposed to emphasize commitment but top 5 has settled to the point where the game is figured out and it revolves around characters with low risk, consistent options. Sonic Boom/Sobat Kick, EX Kunai, Cammy’s divekick, literally all of Akuma etc. Risk is the buzzword but characters with risk and payoff are terrible in this game atm - Gief, Alex etc.
Netcode is pretty hit and miss, one sided delay still exists and no sign of a patch to port over Infinite’s netcode
Animations are piss poor lately
Competitive climate is dominated by top 5/top 10 characters right now but isn’t interesting to watch due to low neutral interaction, more about strong low risk/good containment
Also I think this weekend I’m going to spoon feed myself every bullshit Laura set up because winning with her feels so good. With characters like Cammy and Guile reigning suprememe it’s good to know that Laura was and is still a very balanced character just like Season 1 R. Mika.
I have a love and hate relationship with SFV.
And I agree with most if not all of Frost points.
It is weird to be losing hard with Gief then suddenly when you have VT1 you land one combo and the game is equalized.
And the neutral feels off. Buttons aren’t as good as they were in SF2. And this is no KOF.
But KOF is dead and this the next best thing.
In all seriousness though, if you can’t find a FG that you personally like to play then you aren’t into FGs or you simply aren’t trying hard enough. Using “well, SFV is the best I can get right now” is just an excuse. If you have to make an excuse to play a game, you shouldn’t be playing it.
