Sorry guys, I had to.

So I watched the MvC2 Rising Stars tourney on Spooky’s channel, and now I’ve got a couple of random questions about the game since I’m bored.
…yes. I’m curious. I’m probably never going to play the game (unless new emulation that doesn’t suck comes out AND people in Norway decide to actually play the game), but I like bits of random game knowledge like this.
That, and I’m hijacking the thread for other games than SFV as usual :V
Since I got friendly reminded that anime fighter are only made out of google eyed Schoolgirls, I decided to show the ass of one of these google eyes school girls, since we’re back on topic as it seems.
Now thats a School I would want to go to!
What hell you apologizing for?
This is the only one I’m going to bother answering. I only played/watched MVC2 enough to know that it’s wild and Sent Commando is OP lol.
Basically how it works (easiest to see with Iron Man guard breaks to ToDs) is when you are in a regular jump/air state you can only block once. Pretty easy to set up on incoming. You just meaty them with any air button then do basically anything else and they’re fucked.
That’s why everyone super jumps in MVC2 and part of why the game’s meta became so flight character heavy for the high/top tiers. Cable just happens to have a full screen huge ass beam and grenades to slow the flying characters down and a top AA assist.
I fully welcome more Ed nerfs.
Ed badly needs a buff to his theme though…
Hmmm actually I can probably sorta get started with the other questions even if someone else will answer better.
In MVC2 teams that aren’t like top 4 characters/top 3 assists are “playable” but in like a big double elim tournament won’t have much of a good chance of making top 3. Kinda like how Cooperation Cup allows Alex and Ryu players to sneak into high spots, but place them into a CPT style event and you won’t see them.
I believe the main reason Psylocke is on MSP is because Magneto has the movement and conversions to make it reliable. You have to be quick to confirm off of her reliably. Plus mix ups with her obviously being best with someone like Mag.
Assists are pretty invincible, but they are “cut off” if you hit the point character. That’s how happy bdays and snapback glitches happen most often. The player is trying to fish to hit you before you call your assist so it shuts off and they get rewarded by hitting 2 characters. Something that doesn’t happen in Marvel 3 (but does happen in Skullgirls and DBFZ IIRC). Which is why Haggar and Tron ran shit in Vanilla MVC3 since they were invincible and even if you hit the point character oh well they’re still out.
It worked out that Marvel 3 allowed assists to come out if point characters got hit as it allowed horizontal beam and strike based assists to actually be solid defensive assists. If assists went away on point being hit the game would be basically where DBFZ was pre patch defensive options wise.
We posting lewd now?
Gamers have always been like this, one the PC culture infected console culture it was a wrap. One reason I enjoyed the fgc soooo much is because it was a “adapt” and play to win type of scene. Everything else I experienced seemed so watered down. When I started playing WoW heavy that’s when I realized just how spoiled the PC culture was, and it was because they had direct contact with devs and reps and the games got updates.
People would cry cry cry and demand this or they’ll quit and make everyone else they knew quit… fuss cuss and whine over why some class was stronger than the other.
Now its literally like that with everything, the more access you give people to the devs the more things suck imo…
However the publishers are also more money hungry than ever, games need to be out by X time even if it isn’t completely finish and the dlc and micro transaction you to death ala…sf5
TLDR gamers have always been entitled spoiled grown men brats, game publisher on the other hand have changed and not for the better.
I mean it’s the internet, billions of people hidden behind anonymity, what do you expect?
I’ll try to answer some of these though it’s been years since I played the game so some of this may not be true or it may only be partially correct.
Psylocke versus cyclops. Cyclops is MUCH harder to confirm from as it hits into the air and has little hit stun so you have to confirm while the character is still going up… only cable really is effective at this that I know of and maybe sent as well with shit like random frying pan and storm with call cyke then just hailstorm. Justin said he uses cyclops assists specifically because of large block stun for an AA assist and more vertical range than psylocke.
Psylocke and mag go together VERY welll because psylocke can be confirmed from an OTG iirc and mags has one of the best dashes in the game for dashing in and cr.lk,cr.hk picking up the psylocke confirm.
The reason for few to no AAA assists in mvc3 and dbfz is largely scrub based, mvc3 had train assist at first. Scrubs complained endlessly about how cheap these invincible assists were and how they just “run” neutral. This isn’t exactly far off the truth, but different perspectives see different things. I see anime/airdasher offense as completely degenerate, so having degenerate defense makes perfect sense to combat the offense.
Even in skullgirls there’s a character called big band. Has (or had) the best invincible assist in the game and was the assist my character pain wheel could EASILY convert off of no matter what. Well, big band got abused and subsequently scrubs whined about his assist and got it nerfed to hell iirc, so now PW has to deal with a nerfed team on a character (pw) that was never great to begin with.
I was all hype for dbfz till I realized that assists were specifically pigeonholed in that game to cater to the Japanese style of play (use assists most,y for combos and lockdown, not for neutral) rather than the American style which at the time was to use assists mostly for neutral.
Combine that with dbfz having no pushblock mechanic (and reflect on,y being useable on the ground) and I saw the game as overwhelmingly degenerate towards pressure based offense and terrible mixups (like sf5, basically) it’s how newschool games are being made. Scrubs tend to complain about throws/anti airs and reversals/strong mixups/vortex style set play.
It’s a different mindset. I could go further into it but suffice it to say there is a “cheap” fighting gamer like myself that likes overpowered strong stuff as long as there are ways to deal with it. And there are other players that don’t like it if ANYTHING can be abused. They don’t care if it’s an abusive spacing or abusive blockstring or abusive cancel or abusive mixup or abusive throw or abusive anti air jab. All they care about is if it’s semi predictable and they can’t easily counter it with no thought, they don’t like it.
I think there are merits for both styles of play. But the abusive smart cheap shit like in mvc2/skullgirls/ST is always what I will prefer.
Fuck videogames.
Opens on Steam
@doctrine_dark LMK if you run into a Ken player named SNN-Smell_My_Vag . Most hilarious Ken I’ve ever run into.
Yep yep. Bison is a fuck head that and many ways.
His dash is one of the few I can react to but due to the phase effect and the fact that I usually react with jabs it doesn’t always work out the way I hope.
Jabs usually have shit active frames so you can miss even though your timing is good since he is off screen for a while during the dash. Not like regular dashes where they’re basically throwing their hurtbox into your jab.
I’m sure the data changes once he gets VT1 to make it more difficult.
Until Capcom brings back decent fight money payout I’m not spending a dime on that CPT stuff
Also if you motherbuckers end up getting Ed nerfed again I’m going Liam Neeson on all your asses >:c
Bison’s Forward Dash is fully invincible frames 8-10, strike and projectile invincible frames 11-14. In V-trigger, it’s fully invincible frames 6-13, strike and projectile invincible frames 14-18, and of course can now pass through opponent’s on top of that.
Bison’s dumb.
I finally made it to 23k. Man that was so fucking hard compared to the beginning of my Super Diamond experience. Don’t know how but I went from 20.2k to 22.5k fairly quickly. But it has taken over 2 months to reach the next number. And who know if I can even stay in this range lol.
Ranked is something else man. If you really don’t care about points then no big deal. But if you’re like me and keep staring at your total and calculating how much you’ve gained or lost after every hour or so, it can be demoralizing.
EDIT: Damn it, didn’t mean to reply to you Trife. I just hit the 1st reply button I saw. I seem to have been doing that a lot lately lol.
Yeah the low jab active frames is exactly what gets me. What can sometimes inadvertently save me is that I’m a titch slow hitting the button so old age sometimes pays off.
The Sagat costume is fucking hilarious
