I know I’m late to the conversation but for those in the I.T field how did you get into it? Do I need an A+ certifications? My life’s in limbo right now and I don’t know what to do with it
It’s always nice to go back and watch old footage of your bad habits. Pretty funny and enlightening at the same time. Really glad the CFN lets you find stuff like that.

depends what you want to do, I.T is a pretty vague term

If you want to get into IT focus on networking, there’s always a demand and it’s not as difficult to get into as let’s say writing code.
It pays pretty ok as well.

I know it wasn’t directed at me but I’ve been thinking about networking for awhile just never pulled the trigger. Would you say it’s hard to get into being older?(30)
I remember when his name was leaked on PSN and I had the idea of him using a psycho power “armor” to get buffed.

Depends how far you wanna take it.
There are multiple levels of CCNA / Cisco certifcations.
Basic stuff is quite easy to get into and unless you are a super old man that has nothing to do with tech, age doesn’t matter as long as you got the time and motivation to push a bit forward.

A+ is always going to be useful, atleast demonstrate ability to learn.
With A+ you can break into a entry level helpdesk role.

30 is still young in those fields.
I’m going for the Networking+ cert in about a month. It’s a lot of material but if you’re super dedicated you can get the material in a month’s time. 3 or 4 months is more realistic though.
And yeah there’s always demand for positions that require networking skills.

Whatever you do, don’t get into coding unless you FUCKING LOVE coding and abstract things and problems that make no sense.
And also dealing with very abstract things when coding stuff and finding out that sometimes code doesn’t work because of the Moon axis, the planets alignments, the Pope and stuff like that.

This is why I switched out of computer science back in college.
I thought I liked and was good with computers… I had no idea how deep the rabbit whole went.
And it was dug by a deeply monotonous and tedious rabbit.

At least it’s not so bad when robots are involved
Just gotta do code things to make the robots move and turn stuff on/off, wacky annoyances are far less common, and complicated stuff is actually fun
And still pays well enough
Though I still wanna turn my fan-made fighter into a real game one day, but haven’t really bothered with it since I got my current job. It’s fun making the base game but I’m clueless about all the other aspects that are probably way harder, plus I wanna spend more time getting gud at the fighters that are already out there
Yeah coding is for those details oriented people who won’t hang themselves staring at lines of texts for hours on end. Turns out I’m not one of those people. It’s like working with spreadsheets but more than twice as bad.
Computers stopping for me when we got into shit like binary and hexadecimal. Binary was managable but the other number bases like hexa are the closest I’ve ever seen to real life wizardry.
