I think this is the first season where Abigail having more health than Gief makes even a tiny bit of sense. When he was 1075/1075 it was like do they even know Gief is in the game? 1050/1050 Gail would have been plenty fine as a season 3 character, but 1075 on both values was some good smoke.
Oh for sure. But at least extra health in this game can buy you V gauge.
Tools are the main thing first and always, but health is still a decent nudge once tools are where they need to be (if ever).
Yeah it’s just for me if your health isn’t taking you up the tier list it isn’t really helping. It’s only helping people who play the character and not helping the meta. That’s been the problem with Alex from the beginning. The buffs just make Alex, Alex better and stuff like adding 25 health are more make Alex Alex better.
Oh and yeah I’ve noticed even GM Alex players like Trunksv2 dont even bother with the V Skill cancels.
Alex’s VS is fucking terrible, like bottom 3 levels of trash. Cute cancels into it and buffs on all buttons ain’t doing shit.
Yeah the only thing I kinda like about his V Skill is that the hard hit state can override damage scaling on certain type of hits.
Yeah, it’s just nearly impossible to deliberately capitalize on Hard Hit from any situation that isn’t stun. Even with the new cancels.
That’s because cancels into a useless tool still make the tool useless.
Alex is in the boat where he clearly needs XYZ but for whatever reason Capcom won’t give it to him so they give him random BS to compensate. Bonus points if people claim he is saved after reading the patch notes.
Unrelated, but I used Bison for the first time today and he actually reminds me a lot of Vega. Like he seems like what Vega would be if he were still charge and didn’t have stances.

I could see the logic with the cancels if you were getting auto pilot oki from them anyway. Hard Hit in an oki situation is almost a useful tool.
But that’s the entire point it’s almost useful. Correct we if im wrong but isn’t garbage oki one of the reasons he’s bad?
Capcom ain’t handing out oki and hard hit cancels because then he’d creep into viable tier.
It’s basically all of the reason he’s bad… maybe the fact he can’t cancelt into special from more than normal too.
Alex is a weird case where I think the character is right where he needs to be… He’s more troll and steam roll than anything else. Anything more and you’d be fighting a gief mika hybrid and no on wants that… unless its it’s there kid.
I also don’t think alex is hopeless, I just think he loses to the top tiers and higher tier worse than some mid and low tier characters.

Depends on what you mean by garbage. He’s definitely limited by the fact that opponents can minimize the damage they’re at risk of taking while escaping his oki game. But even then it would still be better to have HH stocked in case the opponent feels like taking risks.

I think that is it exactly. In a game where there are lots of ways around fireballs (some of which are quite good), in a game where every jump in leads to a fist full of damage, stun, and corner carry, and in a game where VT comebacks make the plan of pecking someone to death with zoning a risky prospect, they still were so scared of Sagat being able to legit zone they released him as-is.
I think Capcom knows that most of the SF5 player base doesn’t actually want to play Street Fighter, so much as play a fighting game with SF chars in it. Releasing a tuned up Sagat into the wilds of SF5 online would be like dropping a nuke on a kindergarten.

Nah bad is when you can’t win or struggle to win even sometimes for all the cast or the vast majority

Alex is a coin flip, he can win his “bad” match ups its just a coin flip that’s not in his favor. But at any giving time he can make his bad match ups look free.
What a character is bad when they aren’t good lol. You want to add some nuance to that fine Alex is mediocre.
He is barely seen online and does 0 work at tournaments afaik. He has like what, 1 well known player?
