I believe that next story should be just as the same time as SF3s, So both events is happening simultaneously with the new characters from Zero, 4 and 5 present in the same time of existence but focus in a different set of event.
Like the neo-shadaloo and the bunch of Alpha characters involved in along with veterans like Ryu, Ken, Oro, Akuma and Chun li that wasn’t heavily attached in the SF3s story so they can be also present at the same time in other events.
So technically it answers the absence of new characters and other characters that wasn’t involve in Gill’s tournament. Making thing interconnected to each other.
Agree that would okay with the likes Ryu, Makoto, Akuma and those that lived and raise for that situation or given by consequences.
That’s why the likes of Chun li and Cammy has interesting character motivation later.
I think one of the reasons they keep inserting games before 3 is that by the time you get out to 3 theoretically a lot of fan favorite chars are retired. With how much Capcom doesn’t want to give people a reason to say “no” to an SF game they either have to jam the characters in there anyways (honestly not a big deal) or press on without (worse move for them in terms of player connection I think).
I actually think a rough MK9 style reboot to SF could be pretty cool. Reboot in the sense of the time line at least.
For the record I don’t care one bit about SF’s story minus the funny bits so they can do whatever in my book so long as they back the game up mechanically.
There are exceptions sure, but that trope sums up 3/4’s of the roster.
Compare that to MK which actually has a pretty similiar overall structure. I don’t just mean the modern ones either. The old color swap ninjas have more going on from a character perspective.
Obviously, none of this really makes a fighting game good or bad, but it makes my chuckle when anyone gets attached or otherwise comments on the depth or character of a street fighter character.
SF characters often look cool (in stills and motion), but that’s about it for most of them. With a few exceptions of course.
That one video had the idea of having lots of the characters just participate in a side story, doesn’t need to affect the main plot.
The way blaz blue handles it, is that there are several concurring plot threads which involve disparate groups of characters. They intersect and exchange members from time to time, but by and large the parties stay separate.
SF3 might aswell be a separate universe at this point. Once you get past sf3 timeline half the cast become too old to fight. Probably why they decided with a new generation in the first place.
Edit: I might be wrong, isnt ryu in his 50’s in sf5 lol. All i know is they gave akuma in sf3 gray hair to reflect the timeline.
