SFV Lounge: Cammy at the Falken bottom, Makoto is in final phases, Leo Alex is broken

My takeaway was now I want Arcsys to make a MHA fighter, they’d find a way to make Mt. Lady playable :eyes:

Look forward to seeing more of Granblue nonetheless~

What I read it sounds more like a buff/extra option for the kunais.

BUFF KUNOICHI

If we’re getting new stuff at all it’s going to be more characters getting stuff they don’t need. More stuff is fun though.

Reading tekken forums and you get this unanimous agreements that tiers dont mean shit. You hear the argument and it makes sense. Wish that could be said for sf5. Sf5’s diverse game design just makes balancing impossible.

I like that Tekken and SF have different metas for tiers rather than them being the same. SF’s emphasis on a big gamut between far and short ranged characters just means you’re going to have wider matchup spreads and more reason to play more characters. Even some characters that aren’t super long range, but can fly into areas of the screen that other characters can’t can affect matchups.

Tekken is cool for being a game where Kuma/Panda can win, but it isn’t very surprising since the game kinda forcibly makes it possible.

I don’t buy anyone that says tiers don’t mean shit.

What I think they mean, is that give. The relative balance and nature of the game, a skilled player can win with anyone.

Which is true in every game to varying degrees. Pretending some characters aren’t better than others is the fighting game equivalent of putting your head in the sand.

(This came off meaner than I intended, sorry)

Kage’s St.hp has that Dudley’s St.hk feel. You buffer that shit all day.

@YorKeY always used to say tiers didn’t matter.

Nah, I think it’s pretty impossible for say Alex, claw, ed, or Fang to win a major in SFV.

In SF I pretty much agree. But in Tekken (I think) because of how the game works, that isn’t as true.

Doesn’t mean tiers don’t exist though.

“What I think they mean, is that give. The relative balance and nature of the game, a skilled player can win with anyone.”
yh this is the way they put it. I mean devil jin is more solid then heihachi and eliza is clearly not as strong as the rest of the cast. But the discrepancy that exists in sf5 isnt there. Because in Tekken characters overall share the viable mechanics that are the most crucial in winning.

I mean for Tekken obviously some characters are better than others, but ultimately tiers don’t matter in that game.

I see Dragunov and Bryan way too much still for tiers to not matter in Tekken, but you can kinda play who you want. Kasumi has been top recently so no surprise she won Evo Japan.

Don’t see that Panda guy winning anything huge again anytime soon. It’s still Panda.

Tiers matter but in a game where solid movement and one whiff punish is all you need to win, unique tools between characters aren’t the defining point between competitive play.

Like D.Jin is obviously better than say, Kazuya. But all that matters is utilising the movement in the game to be better than any D.Jin.

Tekken is a peculiar case in that movement and using movement to force scenarios are like, the games defining skillset.

SF is more like, it will only give certain characters mobility options that others won’t ever get. The design philosophy is much more varied between each character, all Tekken characters play by the same ruleset when it comes to moving around.

I like that I can name a pro player for pretty much every character in Tekken. Can’t do that for SFV.

I mean you can do that for SFV it’s not that hard.

Arcade cab will ensure it becomes easy enough for anyone who can’t do it now.

St hp is a brilliant button for what it does, but it has 23 frames of recovery. That leaves you open to jump ins or dash ins and you dont want to get jumped in on if your playing kage. You literally have to play perfect with the char.

If you’re getting jumped in on (like getting hit and blocking jumps regularly) and playing Kage, you have bad footsies and poor AA reactions.

True, what i’m saying is that you can’t freely buffer st hp like you do with other buttons. People will catch on to that and will jump more.

If you whiff a sthp and they jump you can still DP them

Yeah you can’t Cammy spam the buffer, but if you’re a good player you can use it enough based on their footsies tendencies. You don’t have to be that scared to use it. It’s 6 frame start up and the character has ultra braindead AA.
