I’ve always like Adon since the alpha days. However for some reason he has very few fans, even with SF4 when he was a monster top tier there seemed to be very few players.
I don’t particularly want Dan in SFV but I think I have a cool idea for his V’s.
V-skill: A taunt that gives Dan a little V-gauge. Can be used as an evade like the move Cody had in Omega but not as good.
V-trigger: the ultimate Saikyo taunt. Basically, Dan’s taunt super, but when he does it, it locks you out of using meter.
Kinda silly, and maybe OP but I’d love it. Also, it occurs to me that we haven’t seen a V-trigger that affects the opponent. Only ones that boost your character.
Adon is pretty much just a chargeless Bison with different angled aerial options to me. He just wants to walk in and pressure you while throwing out some good buttons occasionally. He also looks pretty goofy which may turn some people off who don’t like their characters looking too comical or asshole like.
In general he isn’t really different enough from any other character to make you immediately go “wow lemme use him” as opposed to say Ibuki, Juri or Guy who have a lot of interesting close and far attack options that are generally flashier and have more variables to them. Adon is another character that SFV could radically change to keep him fresh and more flamboyant in 2016
When have Evo reveals taken place in the past? Memory fails me on big events happening.
Seems like it would be more exciting to do it near the end, but if you reveal it early then you could have a lot of people talking about it and possibly testing it if it’s available in the current build. Not a lot of opportunity for that over the summer.
I’m interested to see their approach to new characters. Other than Viper, I think you could say the vanilla SF4 characters were somewhat simple in their style, but based on what they’ve done with Birdie they have an opportunity to create some unorthodox characters based on the V-mechanics.
Charlie looks to be way more of an Adon replacement than Bison.
Also Charlie looks to be the “evil” iteration of a character for 5, so I hope we don’t see any dark/evil/violent variation nonsense with other characters in 5. It’s a boring cliche.
Very strong feeling we will see a Sakura reveal at EVO. Kidrobot is going to release their exclusive Dark Sakura figures there along with a Shadow Charlie figure. Best time to sell those will be on the coattails of Sakura reveal hype. We might see a new guy and even a 3rd reveal, but I’m not sure.
SEAN
Sean finally figured out how to innovate upon the style taught by Ken … using basketball! Sean doesn’t wear a normal gi anymore, but the King Cobra outfit we’ve wanted for some time.
-2I dragon punch
-V-Skill: Throws a basketball like his 3S taunt. Has 2-3 versions to change the arc. Basketballs stay out for an extended period, and can be knocked around by Sean’s attacks like Venom’s balls in Guilty Gear. To better suit this change, Sean gets new command normals designed to move the ball in unexpected ways.
-V-Trigger: Can have multiple balls out at once, balls bounce a lot more before stopping
SAKURA
Sakura has developed a limited ability to use the SNH. Gameplay wise, she still retains her SF4 style of links, frame traps, and terrifying combo potential.
-V-Skill: Hadosho (from Omega mode), but Sakura can link after it on counter hit and it nullifies projectiles ala Charlie (does not build meter for that)
-V-Trigger: V-ISM. Sakura gains E.Ryu’s particle effects, but while in this mode she gains the combo properties of the Alpha series CC system.
ZANGIEF
Zangief has undergone cybernetic augmentation in order to prove the might of Russia’s science program. He has a few new tricks, not the least of which include a headbutt overhead and the “Russian Stomping” move from Omega…
-V-Skill: Lariat. Hold MK+MP to do the longer version.
-V-Trigger: Mecha Mode. Zangief’s skin takes on a metallic sheen, and he takes some pretty big changes. His jump arc is really short (think Hakan) and he gets lasting armor/autoguard for a brief period, but the gauge falls faster when this happens. Zangief also gets a new move in the form of a “Vodka Fire” breath attack that is safe, beats projectiles, and deals a lot of chip. To balance all this, Zangief cannot dash and must rely on plowing through attacks with an armored Banishing Fiat to get in reliably.
