V-Trigger
Cody uncuffs himself for a short time for various buffs(possibly added juggle potential or âpriorityâ). Cody has been known to be able to remove his handcuffs at will. (Alpha 3) Cuffs himself once the V-Trigger gauge depletes.

Must be some genetic disease grapplers have where over time they get fat and mooby while no one else changes. First Birdie and now Zangief. Thankfully Tizoc hasnât been in a game since KOF XI, would hate to see my man end up looking like Carlos Mencia.
She is an extremely popular character even if people donât play her. Just because YOU donât like her doesnât mean others donât. Personally Iâm not much of a fan either, I think most people like her simply because of T&A factor, but facts are facts.
I was definitely always under the impression that R. Mika was very popular however I noticed that a lot of her popularity seems to come from people that only like how she looks and donât really keep up with the franchise. I donât know how many of these people played Alpha.
Iâve read she has appeared in a number of SF Mangas which probably helps boost her popularity among those that donât actively play SF beyond casually. Itâs why Juni/Juli also rend to rank surprisingly high, they are 15th and 16th in the Japan Capcom Poll and Juli is 27 out of 65 in the Tekken x SF poll.
There is something quite telling about a community made up predominantly of adult men who consistently rank sexualized young women as their favorite FIGHTING characters.
It beckons the question, did all the sexual pandering by companies over the decades brainwash men or are men brainwashing companies into sexual pandering?
The ânobody played R.Mikaâ thing is getting ridiculous. She was bad in A3, you donât see a lot (or any at all) of bottom tier characters at tournaments but is it a reason to not give them another chance?
If sheâs popular letâs bring her back and hope she ends up stronger this time. As an agile and pure grappler sheâs unique in SF. I hope sheâs in so the FFXV anti Cidney army cry for SFV too
I guess it depends on the culture. After WWII, it was stupid dumb-ass men that came back from the military and got involved in media and advertising and used media to perpetuate the world that âthey sawâ and interpreted and thus self-actuated as it influenced people and culture to live by what they saw. The stories/worlds they created in film and TV wasnât actually an accurate reflection of ârealityâ but only the reality that they saw through their own limited interpretations as human beings, specifically male human beings. Itâs not like they had an agenda to brainwash people, itâs just the nature of having a limited perspective and projecting that into an advertisement, a TV sitcom, an article, a movie, etc.
I guess itâs the same when it comes to products that pander to females in general with stuff like romantic comedies and wack romance novels. These people, I guess women in general, interpret the world in a particular manner and have their own set of desires and wants, and they express their world and the world they want within their own media. Just like in a similar manner as men do. When we get to it fundamentally, itâs all perverse self-indulgence. Itâs masturbation in itâs fundamental sense. People have an inherently limited sense and perspective of the world, and people want to feel good and self-gratified. Some people (in this generalized sense, men) are gratified seeing naked women or an idealized female body. Some people (in this generalized sense, women) are gratified by having perfect idealized romantic encounters and relationships with perfect idealized men. Their âpornographyâ (romance novels/etc.) may not be as direct and graphic as male-demographic pornography, thus more âpalatableâ and accepted by mainstream society. Either way, accepted or not (even on a spectrum), all this media serves is just to make people feel good and reinforce their limited perspectives of reality and desires. A tad off tangent, but itâs part of the reason why I really like The Great Gatsby. Gatsby suffers because he wants to be a true, blue-blooded American and be rich just so he can be with the girl he wants; but no matter how hard he works or try to fulfill his desires by acquiring status in society, he can never fulfill the standards and desires of others/society and ultimately suffers for it. Having desires leads to suffering, which somewhat lends into that Buddhist idea where getting rid of desire gets rid of suffering. The title Great Gatsby then becomes ironic and satirical, lending to Fitzgeraldâs idea that the American Dream is a sham that never existed and cannot be actualized due to the inherent nature of human beings.
So I donât think men intentionally brainwashed society post WWII era with the intent to market and make huge profits while exploiting male desires, I think that was a byproduct of humans just being humans and being inherently limited in perspective. A large part of this is cultural as well, and culture slowly changes over time. Also I donât feel like sexualization and sex are bad, itâs objectifying people because of it is wack.
Iâm tired as fuck and I donât know why Iâm posting this on a fighting game forum at 4 AM, but Iâll share my thoughts anyways. Simply put, I think itâs fine putting sexualized men and women in fighting games. Sexualization isnât wrong, and what counts as sexualization depends on culture. I donât think people back then used media to push agendas based on their limited world perspectives, they just are inherently limited as human beings and reflect that in their work, pieces, and media. I think people are more self-aware of the phenomenon now that they may try to intentionally do it, but of course there are inherent limitations of its effectiveness as well. Used for such purposes or not, people canât put out a purely âobjectiveâ or âfactual/descriptiveâ piece because humans are (once again) inherently limited in perspective of the world in terms of sight, sounds, touch, and other senses (let alone knowing these senses from the perspective of other human beings.) So anything can be desire pandering bullshit meant to self-gratify. What I do like is having that pandering bullshit be able to tastefully challenge our perspectives and give us the opportunity to expand our insight of the world, even if those new ideas and perspectives are difficult or contradict our previous/current understanding and perspective of reality. I think thatâs what people try to define art as, before the term âartâ became nebulous, ambiguous, and used for pretenses, ego, and hubris.
So when it comes to people liking R.Mika mainly because of her aesthetics, be it mainly viewed as sexually or not, instead of her mechanics as a fighting game tool set, thatâs fine. Itâs a chance to deliver a character to people that want to play a game and also make her finally a contending competitive fighting game character. You could say it was the opposite way in the 90s in Japan when hordes of fangirls went to the arcade to play Kyo and Iori in KOF. If you look at their character bios, theyâre pretty much pandering to the female fans by having them be âperfectâ like how Edward or whatever his name is is perfect in Twilight. Like some pretty boy niggas with some bad boy anger issues that never work out or train but are somehow really talented, gifted, and perfect have an edgy rival relationship and somehow can body fighters such as Ryo and Terry that have put in years of training with ease. As much as I think Kyo is cool and fun to play, heâs pretty much a âGary Stu/Mary Sue.â Same with Kâ, even worse so in regards to being lazy but is âperfectâ and can body everyone and be chuunibyou edgy. R. Mika might be a character that panders and masturbates male sensibilities, but we have had and still have fighting game characters made to do that for women. In some ways, almost any fighting game character is perverse wish/desire fulfillment.
To end this stupid post, if I wanted to be any fighting game or fictional character in real life, I want to be Shuma Gorath. I wish to be the all powerful tentacle monster that rules multiple dimensions and can strike a cool b-boy pose.
Sheâs extremely popular in Japan for some reason. She was ranked 4th on the Capcom popularity poll in Japan.
O yeah and here is another poll, this one is âwhat characters from SF4 would you like to see more products for?â Figurines and such. Some interesting results there.
Note this was done back in March 2014, USF4 hadnât even hit the arcades yet and Decapre wasnât even playable at that point. In the blog post Ayano even notes how strange it was Hakan was so high but that it made him happy.
On a personal note, as he is my personal favorite char Iâm glad to see how consistently popular Cody is.
Cody = 18/65 tekken poll, 16/68 Popularity poll(world wide), 18/68 english poll, 14/68 japan poll, 5/44 on Capcom product poll, 2/44 on the eventhubs stats and 19/64 on the eventhubs âwho do you want in SF5â poll (where he is 3rd place behind Akum and then Dudley for male characters that were in SF4).
I noticed with the Capcom Popularity poll Japan stacked the top with female characters pretty heavily, top 8 has 6 female chars. The tekken poll is only 5/8 for top 8 but itâs 11/16 for top 16. The figurines poll itâs evenly split 4/4 for top 8 and top 16 is evenly split too at 8/8 surprisingly enough. However when you realize there is only 11 female chars in the game at all it sounds a little less evenly split. I find it interesting personally that in popularity polls, especially in japan but even in the west, female characters almost always rank among the highest. Yet female chars are also much less represented in the SF series, there is I believe only 17 female chars in all of SFâs gameplay side.

Compared to the 68 characters in Street Fighter (not counting Captain Sawada that Harada trollingly put in the Tekken poll). That is exactly a 25/75 split on female vs male characters % wise. Youâd think with how popular they end up being they would make a few more female chars. Like a 33/66 or 40/60 split would make sense to me.
I guess Iâm just rambling at this point, but I kind of hope that they make SF5 have a bit more even representation of female characters. Super Turbo only had 2 out of 16!
I canât wrap my head around why Ingrid is so popular. It just annoys me. Actually, I CAN wrap my head around it: Waifu fetish. Has anyone actually played her and seen how boring she is? All she does is do stupid little pirouettes and glitter comes out of her hands and feet. Stupid ass character thatâs there for fanservice, really.
Her moveset, as far as tools go and angles they control, is pretty interesting. However Iâm not a fan of her. The story sucks and her design is eh. She certainly feels like an SNK character which is no surprise since it was designed by someone who designed SNK characters.
I would love to see her return for CVS3 (as Iâve said a couple of times) because she is so SNK and itâd be cool for an Athena/Ingrid rivalry, otherwise I could live without seeing her ever again in SF. Just put her in CVS3 or like another capcom crossover game, even if itâs another internal one like CFJ. Actually, itâd be kind of cool if she was THE crossover character. Like that is all she appears in is crossover games. Either storyline wise (SFxT) or gameplay wise. Make her the literal deus ex machina character that creates the dimensional rifts that causes crossover games or has some hand in it with some representation from the other sides help.
