I don’t expect Blanka on release. The way the Brazil video was done made me think “new character,” and that goes along with the Bogard stuff that’s been very accurate so far.
Don’t forget that playstyle comes first for Capcom. That’s why I said the old list with 4-5 grapplers was suspect (didn’t include any vega/rekka/really any other “strike”-type characters.) There’s more concerns than popularity or series representation.
Also don’t forget the format of the 16-character slide with the boxes. There was a random empty space in the green section, and I don’t think Vega would fit there, although it’s not impossible. There were also two spaces between Nash and Birdie, which is weird to me. It wouldn’t make much sense to go Alpha-SF3-SF3-Alpha, and not much more sense to go Alpha-SF3-SF3-SF1. If I had to make a guess, I’d expect either all 4 are “alpha” characters, or it goes Alpha-Alpha-SF1-SF1, and there would be another surprise waiting. Kind of a longshot though.
Of course that could be thrown off entirely if the spacing is based on character relationships instead of what series they’re from.
I think it’s more so people just making the generalization that all “shotos” essentially operate the same way. I don’t ever hear that argument about grapplers or vortex characters, which is interesting. BUT I will say that we don’t have to include every Ansatsuken disciple in the beginning - DLC for sure.
I’m with you on Akuma, so I’m hoping the rumours of Day 1 DLC are true, but I don’t necessarily want him right away if he takes up an initial 16 character slot. Like I said in my previous post, I feel like we’re pretty much down to 1-2 returning characters at this point - variety would be ideal.
All of the characters in that slot would be ex-charge characters, and have otherwise received a pretty large overhaul to their commands and moveset (beyond the normal degree of any SF5 character.)
It would be a bit more abstract, because I’m not sure where between Bison and Vega you draw the “overhaul” line. Like I said, trying to imagine a way to look at it out of the box. Maybe a way that a developer would see it, rather than someone worried about series representation, because the image came from a Capcom presentation. In which case, there could be a character who wasn’t seen outside of SF3 or Alpha in the green section, as long as they stuck closer to their familiar design.
What if the blue section is non SF2 characters? Like:
SF1- Birdie
SFA- Charlie
SF3- Urien/Alex
SF4- Juri
I mean if they announce yet another SF2 character then this might as well be the case.
Looking at this stage again… it just makes me wonder why they put that giant trophy instead of Christ the Redeemer. It’s a good looking stage, but it just seems so out of place even if soccer is very popular there.
…now that I think about it, there are no characters that were naturally born in Brazil in the SF series right? I guess Laura would be a first if she’s in the game.
He’s obviously meant to be ‘in training’ and developing his own style. That’s why he’s different. That and Capcom had made the ‘shoto’ style character for multiple games and was trying to break out into something less traditional.
He’s shoto-like in that he shares some inputs and the styles of some moves. But he’s really different than Ken, Akuma and Ryu. He should be included because he’s very different and appeals to different players.
As for him appealing to some people based on his race, color, style, etc. Is there something wrong with that?
Also, i’m as white as can be.
You guys should finally stop with that SF1 stuff, SF1 is like non-existent for Capcom, they dropped the complete story of that game, change the characters completely design and story wise, hell the SF1 Birdie has nothing to do with the Birdie in Alpha, that’s like comparing Mike and Balrog(Boxer).
and NO, Birdie had not the same doctor as Michael Jackson.
If so, I’d be down for that. Making certain characters older would be interesting imo, makes me wonder how the Karin and Sakura rivalry would be like if both of them end up as grown ups.
I’d be fine with Sakura or Sean, they are my favourite characters in 3 and 4, guess I’m a sucker for altered shotos.
Thinking again about the Bogard leak, a lot of the info he got right ie v-trigger, Brazil stage, no super/hyper versions, but the rest of people’s interpretation doesn’t seem to match up. I think a lot of people read an article about the leak instead of watching the footage cos it is anything but explicit about what the clues could mean.
He name dropped “Zen” and everyone assumed it was a character, maybe it was a reference to Zennies and nothing more.
“Rachid” to me sounds a lot like Rashid, which is a fairly common Indian name. I don’t get why everyone immediately linked that character with the supposed new Africa stage when there is apparently to be new India stage as well, that would make more sense to me.
