SFV Character Request/Anticipation Thread

I wonder if there could be a chance for SF1 characters that have never returned to make a comeback in SFV. I think it’s pretty slim Capcom seems to ignore that SF1 even exists in those vine cards (Ryu, Ken and Birdie).

Along with that, I have a hard time seeing them in this game since some of those forgotten characters are very similar in design with other much more popular and requested characters (Joe is Cody, Mike is Boxer, Lee is Yang/Yun or even Rufus, Geki is Vega with some ninja shenanigans).

I guess Eagle is pretty much the only one that has a chance, I think he would look good in this game.

I agree, the only thing I don’t like is that throws feels super strong, maybe too strong, maybe it was the internet but I had the feeling that throws beats command grabs like 90% of the time. I had also problems to react against wakeup throws.

Throws have no range though

Some people already got used to it.

Incidentally it might be interesting if someone got a recording of minimum range where throws whiff with different characters, to see how it compares.

Good video for seeing the ranges on karas. They all give you at least better than “having to breathe on your opponent” range.

Seems like its kinda split as to who thinks throws are too good or not good enough. I’m just personally not a fan of short throw ranges since my 2 favorite SF games are 3S and ST which both have ways to extend throw ranges or generally have fast walk speeds for the characters that don’t have large ranges. It keeps it so all characters have a legit mix up that doesn’t go too far into vortex territory as they get in.

Word is they’ve nerfed the range or completely removed Chun’s f+MP kara throw in the newest build with Vega and Necalli. Which I was hoping they wouldn’t as Combofiend initially advertised it, but since the natural throw ranges are pretty short and her kara throw was the longest by a significant margin, that’s what ended up happening. Seems like each character has quite a few buttons that can be kara’d so I guess there’s more to experiment with there.

**As far as the characters go, I just have this feeling that the chances of anyone 3S getting in at launch are really low. **Especially considering there are only going to be 16 at launch. Remember what has been set in stone is that 4 characters are going to be completely new to the IP just like SFIV’s Rufus, Viper, Abel and Fuerte or SF2’s Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long and T.Hawk. We once again are going to have 4 new warriors who already take up 4 slots that could have been used for anyone in 3S.

To me the list below just kinda screams blue balling us with 3S characters as post release DLC.

So again in that green portion you have
1.Ryu
2.Chun Li
3.Bison
4.Cammy
5.Ken
6.Vega
7.???
8.???

In the purple portion you have
1.Necalli
2. Guaranteed new IP
3. Guaranteed new IP
4. Guaranteed new IP

In the blue portion you have
1.Birdie
2.Nash
3.???
4.???

From looking at that the 3S characters can only fit in the question marks. For the 8 character green portion, it’s looking really obvious that those characters all seem to be characters that are trademark SF2 characters. There’s nobody that debuted in Alpha or 3S in that portion. With Ono teasing Blanka’s release for the Brazil Game Show coming in October (that also reveals the Brazil stage), it’s very likely Blanka is going to be one of those 8. Leaving only one spot left for a 3S character to randomly show up next to Blanka which is pretty unlikely IMO. That list seems almost solidified as a world warriors/SF2 list.

Can’t have anyone from 3S in the purple portion as that is new characters to the IP only.

Leaves you with the blue portion which already has Nash and Birdie. This may be the only spot where adding 2 characters from 3S would make a lot of sense as this could be the “returning warriors from past games” slot. It’s just the fact that 2 of them already being characters that either debuted or are prominently known as Alpha characters being revealed also suggests that this may just be a returning Alpha character list. The big thing we can see so far is that both of these Alpha characters are characters that were not playable in SFIV.

Basically I only see the blue Birdie/Nash spot as the only area that a 3S character would return, but it could easily just be an Alpha character list or returning SF1/Alpha character list. Really don’t see a SF3 character appearing in the green portion as 75 percent of that list is world warriors already. 0 percent chance in the purple list of course. Honestly that list makes the chances of a SFIV New Warrior entering at launch slim also.

I’m still behind Sean being in.
He seems like such an obvious choice. Especially when you consider the look of the Brazil stage. It looks like a cliche residential street in Rio de Janeiro which imo is not at all typical of a Blanka stage. Seems very Sean considering his 2I stage.

The fruit! The fruit!

Yeah Sean was the one 3S character I was figuring had a shot since the Brazil stage is being revealed. It would be kinda funny having Sean and Blanka revealed at the same time. The list just seems really saturated with SF2 and Alpha characters too early though. If Sean does hit he would most likely be part of the blue portion.

I know :<
Maybe by SF6 Capcom will have the balls again to do something really new character wise.

Sean is sick, he’s actually my favorite shoto since he has so much personality.

I think his basketball being his V-Trigger would be really fucking cool.

I dunno

Sean being in the vanilla 16 sounds really really unlikely

But then again, they bought back fucking Birdie of all fucking people

I think Sean is guaranteed as post launch DLC char

I think the theme with the characters seems to be “how can we make the old SF2/Alpha characters feel new like 3S characters”. They’re bringing back pre SF3 characters, but simply giving them a future/fresh kick visually and gameplay wise. Birdie looking crazier than he already does with an almost completely new moveset, Vega and Nash both no longer being charge and having new movesets, Ken with the under armour and hurricane dive kicks…it goes on.

Which I guess would then later set up a return of the 3S characters where everyone can feel fresh in their own way. Ono said Capcom purposely threw Birdie in as they want us to learn to like new characters we may have never thought to have liked or heavily demanded before.

i dunno. sean’s schtick was that he had a command dash that was cancellable from normals, and you could do an optional attack at the end. that’s basically ken’s vskill. plus his new ex air hurricane sort of acts like sean’s overhead move. if they’re going to put in sean he would have to be more or less an entirely new character. even bison has some of his old moves, but sean would have to be completely different from his old self apart from having a basketball.

I’ve always wanted SF to do this like the KOF games where SNK will change movelists for almost no reason but I tend to end up liking the changes. (Except Clark in XIII is boring af to play imo).

If anything, they’ll probably do releases tied to games. So in one season it’ll be 3S and we’ll get 3 characters like Dudley, Makoto and Alex or something.

I get what you’re saying, there’s some overlap with how he is in 3S.
But then look at Ken compared to his 3S self…

So there’s no reason to assume Sean would be too much like his 3S version. What makes Sean cool is his style/personality.
Plus come on man, his roll is a perfect v-skill.

Or basketball as v-skill. The possibilities…
He just seems too fun and if they’re throwing in Birdie and Nash who were left out of 4, I expect those other two to be 2 3S chars left out of 4. Sean and Alex would be great.

True, but he was also heavily changed between NG/SI and 3S. If there’s anybody they could dramatically change, it would be Sean.

Yeah I liked how almost every year of a KOF character is pretty different. Then you have the EX/throwback versions of some characters as well.

Ssssssssssssean ssssssssssssssucks

you know what guys ?

I think i give up speculating as to the cast they will be revealing in coming months

Just quickly lets get it over with capcom

I gave up hoping for 3S chars long time ago

I feel like Alex and Urien are must haves in the game at launch, or sub Gill for Urien. That basically leaves us with two returning characters, and with the Ingrid tease (although Ono could be trolling), we’re down to one.

At this point, I’m more interested in seeing the three other new additions.

Spoiler

But add Karin pls BibleThump

No more shotos plz, just Akuma and that’s it. 3S have more interesting characters than… Sean, even Twelve is better…

If you want to bring 3S characters, there is a lot to pick up like Alex, Urien, Makoto, Q.

Sean is absolutely nothing like Ryu, Ken or Akuma.
That’s even basing him on his 3S version. One can assume he would be even more different.

Whenever I see these kinds of comments it’s obvious the person making them knows dick-all about 3S.
