They are taking queues from LoL and likely Killer Instinct. Look for more like either a season system with new chars around every month then like a 6 month hiatus before a new round of characters. OR every 2-3 months new char release.
3-4 seems possible but I think it’s less likely given they are utilizing a F2P style system they need to keep releasing content on more regular basis.
I’m curious to know if there will be free character cycling or the ability to use DLC chars in training mode. IMO It’s VERY important that they allow unpurchased characters to be utilized in training mode for learning setups and such.
When a character is released it should automatically be downloaded into your game, and be available for free in training mode. Purchasing it with bison dollars or fight money would give you access to the character’s arcade/story mode and online play. I think this is fairest.
Not sure how credible a source that is, but, I most definitely have not given up hope on 3S characters making it into the initial launch. SF4 was the callback game that was like “Hey look, remember Street Fighter? Money please!” SFV doesn’t have to do that, and from a marketing perspective, it would be very silly for Capcom to not represent a portion of their fanbase. We have have SF2 representation, Alpha, I’m sure SFIV will get at least Juri, and 3S will likely get Urien or Alex, or both. Urien, as I’ve stated in previous posts, could work extremely well in SFV with the right adjustments. He’s also one of the more beloved characters from 3S, yet has never been given any other showing other than Capcom Fighting Evolution. I stand by my thought that Urien vs Alex will be a possible matchup on SFV’s release. Urien at the least, I am 100% sure is going to make the initial roster.
Other than Alex, I wouldn’t mind seeing Necro, Q, Oro or even Sean, who could be changed pretty dramatically. Necro is an amazingly versatile character, who doesn’t really fit into any sort of SF archetype. He’s not as limbs oriented as people want to believe, he’s sort of his own breed. Q would be a bit tricky to design for SFV, but his health increasing abilities might be a bit daunting if his moveset was improved. Oro, interestingly, would probably become completely balanced just from inherently making the jump to SFV’s engine. He was neither hindered nor benefited from parries in any drastic way, and he has always been considered by some (Kuroda and myself) to be a hidden overpowered character. Most of that is simply due to how meter works in 3S, all problems which would not be in SFV. His supers were brokenly good, while his moveset was good but with obvious flaws, he’d be an easy transition to be honest.
Heh, I sort of like that I don’t care who they pick from 3S to represent, I’ll be happy regardless. I love all 3S characters, even Twelve, who people love to hate. Though seeing the divekickers would be disappointing, but I doubt that’ll happen.
Them green boxes probably mean returning characters period and not a specific fran…oh shit the green boxes mean sf4, NOT SUPER TURBO falls to the floor
Ah. third strike characters were in 4, worldwarriors were in 4 and 3 of em are from third strike in every game, mystery solved.
I honestly expect seasons based around actual games.
So like Season1 will be popular SF2 character that didn’t make it in the game like say Guile, Zangief and Sagat while Season 2 will be popular Alpha characters that didn’t make it in like say Sodom, Karin and Sakura.
I wonder if they’ll have downloadable on release characters, so the game does come with 16 characters but then there is 1st day DLC that has say Akuma, Juri, Dudley and Cody. That would be cool.
Since I haven’t seen any discussion on these tweets, figured I’d start.
This could be one of (at least) 3 places. There’s 2 CPT Cups in the Philippines and Vietnam in early September, but the “first time going there” implies it’s probably not either of them, and Capcom is also apparently going to be bringing an SF5 build to First Attack in Puerto Rico. The censoring also implied the location would give it away somehow. So maybe a new PR fighter or maybe just Balrog?
He also mentioned going to PAX Prime next week, and TGS. Wouldn’t be surprised if a waifu was announced at TGS. No idea who might be announced at PAX.
He didn’t give any particular names, only guesses of his own.
Well I think we’ve pretty much established what those boxes mean, haven’t we? Green box = characters that were in SF4 (and, as a coincidence, SF2 cast), Blue box = returning characters (that have been missing since forever and haven’t gotten in SF4), Purple box = new characters. This logic pretty much eliminated 80% of SF4’s cast (perhaps for the best, actually, with a few exceptions), unless Capcom proves us wrong with their reveals
Yea I think it’s first attack in PR. There will be a SF5 build there and you are spot on, can’t imagine Ono making many trips to the beautiful island of PR
Yeah but if they wanted to color code the box for characters from SF4 they would’ve went with orange. Third Strike would’ve been red or yellow. Green is *soooo *SF2 and blue, blue can’t be anything but Alpha. It’s so Alpha. Blue. Alpha.
It seems highly unlikely that the Blue spot is just Alpha characters. Only bringing back Alpha/ST characters for the core roster makes no sense from any perspective. Not only do you need to diversify that DLC roster to appeal to a broad spectrum of fans, but you definitely don’t want to overdraw from any one iteration. Alpha has a chunky list of fan-favorites that would be prime DLC material.
R.Mika
Sodom
Karin
Eagle
Maki
Juni/Juli
2 DLC packs right there.
Frankly I just want something new to be announced. Character/Stage/Mechanic, I don’t care. I feel like I need to visit a methadone clinic.
Yes, that one where she sprinkles some…thing at you. There seems to have been a hint/tease at her a few days ago though which sucks IMO. I don’t want to see her in the core roster or as DLC ever. She has a very large fanbase however, not as big as karin’s but still hefty enough. There’s just so many characters who could take her spot. It’s hard to know with capcom though…no one expected vega or birdie. Everyone expected urien and alex in SF4 and they weren’t in, as a converse example
I hope Ingrid and Twelve are in the core 16, the salt would sustain me for another 30 years. Especially if Alex and Urien didn’t get in(unlikely, and I actually like them.).
I get that Urien has some kind of way into the game via story. Because illuminati etc., head gem, Seth, blah blah.
But I feel like he’s way too weird for a game (STILL) based around SF2 gen characters.
Look at the SF3 gen characters in SF4. They’re all the norms.
I think it’s more likely 2 other characters at launch will be Alex and Sean if there are any SF3 gen guys at all. Sean is not a ‘shoto’ and there’s so much room to push his character even more since he has never really (let’s be serious, 2nd Impact doesn’t count) been in the spotlight.
Alex also would be someone Abel players might find appealing since he’s a grappler with strong strikes and a much more mobile and aggressive playstyle.
Didn’t someone say there is a Gamestop Expo in early September? That would be my guess, as opposed to a tournament. That’s just how they do things most of the time.
I doubt we will get the Sakura/Rose/SF2/SF2 treatment. Burning all of their surprise characters in the first 6 reveals would be out of character.
All right. Closing thoughts in 3 points:
[details=Spoiler]Changing what things a character can do is a hard limit on their capabilities. Robo-Fortune can’t defend herself for her life, so in a 1v1 setting without assists, she might as well die in one combo for all the difference in makes (simplifying, yes.) In another game, you could create the same effect by making it so that she actually does die in one or two combos, but then at least she can be allowed to have some gameplay on defense instead of being stuck in the reset blender for a while. Unrelated side note, Robo is pretty much the only character I like in the game (I’m way too picky, I’m not blaming the game for that.)
There’s no better recent example than Vanilla to Super SF4 that a game can change overnight with just a serious application of numbers. The vector was damage, and not health, but those are just different forms of the same concept. Yes, the changes were not quite universal - some characters and moves were changed more than others - and there were also some non-damage changes. Overall, though, the nature of the entire game, mirror matches included, changed mostly because characters took more hits to die than they did before, and there have been all sorts of interesting discussions over this since then, including some that you can still find if you look for them in the time when Super was current.
Beyond arguing what is effective or not, there is a separate discussion about whether the first or the second methods are a good idea, and whether the characters you create with those methods are good for a game. If you want to say that a game shouldn’t have a character like Akuma/Seth/Chipp/whoever, I would say I’d rather have that than a Robo-Fortune in a solo game. And that can be another point that could be discussed endlessly or just left to a disagreement.[/details]
As a final note, maybe SF5 thinks that 50-health gaps were not enough. So far, every character who has below-average health has 900 health. I don’t know how much Birdie has, but I’d guess it’s at least 1100, and maybe Akuma would have 800 or even less when he got into the game.
At this point I don’t care anymore.
They could add in Blanka, Fuerte, Viper and Seth next and it wouldn’t piss me off.
The way they made Cammy “fair” I feel like the above mentioned characters wouldn’t be a huge problem if Capcom would use the same design philosophy they used on Cammy.
This game plays very honest so far and as long as the characters they add in feel like SF-characters, I’m fine with everything, even Rufus.
