SFV Censorship

the real crime is that mika and nadeshiko dont spread the victims legs anymore
isnt even a proper kinniku buster anymore like what the fuck

that said how does a creator, or in this case group of creators, “censor” their own work in progress? I was under the impression censorship was an action undertaken due to 3rd party pressure/direct interference, neither of which is at play here
this is just a change capcom wanted and everyone’s gonna have to hold that
lord knows I dont give a shit, loss of the buster aside

Parryall…man. Why the fuck are you going this hard? But if it bothers ya that much they took out the ass slap [Wow] then take all the examples the others posted and give a suggestion.

The only reason for the change is $$.
It’s not some crusade against showing asses. Capcom execs and their shareholders want sales. You get sales by getting people to be OK with the content.

It just happens to be this because women are still this mystical thing we as a species can’t wrap our heads around.

All this just to cater to the people whos not going to buy the game anyway…

And to that I say…does that stop Mortal Kombat from being successful? Because honestly…it doesn’t to this day.

So many spoilt brats here. Capcom shows suspiciously underage looking girls in compromising positions? They’re Japanese, it’s their culture, cut them some slack. Capcom “censors” said girls - ERMAGAWD MAH FREEEDUMB!!! MORALS!!! INJUSTICE!!! ARGH!!! A bunch of hypocrites. You piss on “social justice” then you demand it for yourselves. Fuck off.

Capcom did NOT censor R.Mika. ***Get that through your thick skulls. ***

Call things by what they truly are. Capcom reframed the picture, shifted the camera focus to the character, the person, the face, rather than a zoomed in ass shot. Her ass is still bare, her tits still hang out, and she still slaps her butt cheek.

Capcom reconsidered their position about the kind of company they want to or could be perceived as. They do not want to come off as cheap, as tacky, as gratuitous, as remotely offensive, as pandering, or as disturbing in anywy - **But **they still want to retain the essence of who the character is. This was their reconsideration, their reconfiguration, and their compromise. The artist does not want to come off that lewd anymore. WHY don’t you respect the artists’ wishes? Why does the juggernaut Sony and Capcom corps have to be weak and coerced into doing this in your mind? Collapsing to the pressure to the “social justice warriors” who are suddenly the new ISIS? Why does Capcom changing their mind (which happens a lot during beta) has to be the result of an outcry or a conspiracy? More so why do Capcom have to be liars about their reasoning when they have been so transparent with us from the beginning? Is it cuz ParryAll’s journalism degree says so? Have you heard how crazy and paranoid he sounds? Capcom do not have to justify anything by the way, but some of you feel they owe you the whole god damn civil rights movement. Capcom owes you nothing but what you pay for, and you are not obliged to buy from them anything that disagrees with your moral compass.

We are in a privileged position to be able to see the entire development process of a Street Fighter game for the first time, and all this fuss, 7000 signature petitions, drama, over a shift in camera angle (that is what it literally is)? Man you guys WAKE THE FUCK UP. There is REAL STUFF happening in the world that is better suited for your attention and energy. If this was an ACTUAL DENOTATIONAL censorship, I would be the first to side against it but censorship this was not.

Truth be told, the only rational reason anyone would actively pursue to “uncensor” Mika is because they have too much time on their hands. Relax, chill, jerk off, get a girlfriend, we’ll be playing SF5 soon and that is all that truly matters.

this isn’t really accurate. I think the overwhelming response from the community is “who cares either way.” but I think Capcom wants to move the game towards a more professional look and minimize the fanservice presumably aimed at teenagers (which isn’t to say that only teenagers could like it, but that seems like the target group).

Capcom is investing a lot of money into moving SF into more legitimacy as an esport right? I think it’s fair to say of the FGC “we esports now.” No other esport genre that I watch has buttslaps, no other esport genre has panty shots. I don’t watch MOBAs so maybe they do have that there. But when you watch Starcraft or Smash or CS GO, there’s nothing like that. the focus is solely on the gameplay, wrapped in a slick package of high profile commentators and fancy venues. I’m sure it will remove a little discomfort from late 20s and onward players too, who have to explain why they’re playing something like Skullgirls and all of the fanservice that goes with it. you can say “it doesn’t matter” but in general society, it absolutely does. people look at you differently when they see stuff like that.

You can see it in the general community as well. Less and less at major events do we see commentary by people trying to crack jokes or yell random shit into the microphone. More over time, we see commentary more akin to esports, or more akin to UltraDavid/James Chen style.

I understand that these moves aren’t always ideal, and some of us could still live perfectly fine and happy in an era where Dr Sub Zero talks about catching STDs from porn stars over 3s top 8s recorded at an arcade, and you can hear the players yell “YOU’RE A FUCKING IDIOT” at each other across the cab. but that’s not where the community now is, because as you gain more exposure, shit like that is just a bad look. it only brings negative attention - no one makes a big deal about it if you remove a butt slap except 0.01% of the FGC. but if a player at your event tweets “I’m about to rape some girl” for example (this recently happened in a Starcraft event) it will attract a LOT of attention. same with that whole Cross Assault fiasco. you can be sure Capcom took a lesson from that.

from a risk vs reward standpoint, from a professionalism and legitimacy standpoint, stuff like this makes perfect sense for Capcom, and it’s only a small part of a much bigger move towards cleaning themselves up + cleaning up the image of the competitive community.

this will likely be my only serious reply to this thread, I’m not interested in getting sucked into a long debate. but that’s my 2 cents.

Would you donate to his Patreon?

You keep fighting the good fight, sir Quixote, you ingenious gentleman.

Right and all that legitimacy is just because $.
There’s nothing more to it.

This type of censorship is actually about as anti-feminism as it gets. Feminists rallied in the 1960s, feminism played a huge role in the sexual revolution and feminism has always been about sexual independence, sexual liberation, loving yourself, being bold and empowered, anti-slut shaming and so on.

This off the deep end Gamergate stuff is trying to push back feminism 50 years. The freedom of speech, 1st amendment stuff is trying to take us back 200 years lol. Complete insanity.

Combofiend hasn’t responded to my tweets yet. He and Capcom will bow down to a small group of radical extremists who do not represent mainstream gaming values nor mainstream feminist views. They’ll bend over backwards and defend the decision for them but when a 12 year veteren of the FGC who has been a Capcom customer his entire life and at least 7,100 disappointed fans speak up we are ignored.

yea the butt slap isnt a big deal but you are telling me that is the only thing lewd in this game let alone all their other ones, shit Morrigans design is worse that all this BS and all the racist shit they get away with.

I can’t quote people from mobile for some reason.

Daemos you really are a walking joke aren’t you.

“THIS ISNT CENSORSHIP OMG OMG OMG HATE HATE”

Then the next paragraph details exactly how they censored the move by playing with camera angles.

I really don’t know how to respond to a post like that.

It’s like you’re saying “PARRYALL LISTEN 2+2+=5 OMG OMG HATE”

Get help? That’s my response.

Fatality93: what have I said that you don’t agree with? Be specific.

Easilyn: I’m going hard because I go hard at all my endeavors with life. I go all the way. It can be something as important as my life’s work, or something as trivial as becoming good at a video fighting game. Doesn’t matter. I’m in it to win it, I’m passionate, and somebody’s got to stand up and say what we are all thinking and do something about it.

I admire your dedication to this censorship thing even though I’m not really that worried about it.

I’m honestly not too surprised by Capcom’s choices considering how out of touch they can be with the community. It’s like Ono seen some terrible SJW articles about gaming and wanted to go the most quiet route possible with this censor, but it does the exact opposite and just annoys people more that it’s removed. Sure it’s a novelty thing, but to have something provoke enough fear in you to remove it after we had people like Cammy in 4 showing full view of her ass in her intro something really is wrong.

Capcom isn’t at fault though for wanting to make money.

It is censorship even if self censorship. They made a decision, showed it publicly, then decided to alter the visual afterwards. It was made to be shown one way and then was shown another way at a later date.

The thing that sucks is kind of that it’s a Japanese game made from a Japanese perspective. We all liked these games and that was one of the reasons. Whether it was an obvious component or not, it was part of what made them what they are. It sucks that with such a global marketplace these things which were once kinda special become homogenized so they can turn the largest profit.

It’s not much different than an indie band going mainstream and their sound changes to be more palatable to a larger audience.

No social justice bullshit motives, it’s just business.

You know I’ve been thinking.

I think everyone here can at least agree that censorship sucks. I don’t know anyone who goes out of their way to find the UN censored KOF Roms, but there are many who would and there’s nothing wrong with that. 10 years ago that was the norm.

Today’s generation man. Idk what the heck got in the water or food supply but it’s bad.

Anyways I think most of us actually agree and want the game restored. Obviously an option, which can default to off, for censored or uncensored fan service should be included.

You know, I know it’s already understood but I want to reiterate. For me, this just turns the game into watered down “for kids” crap looking for an E rating. I always thought Cammys intro looked badass and couldn’t put my finger on why it seemed edgy and cool, I had no idea you could see her crotch for 2 seconds. But the thing is. Her crotch is in your face every game she’s in. Why is that 2 second clip such a big deal? And the new intro they replaced it with looks horrible.

T for Teen means an edgy game. Not MK or GTA level sex and violence, but some edgy stuff here and there, it’s always been that way with Capcom stuff. And the main audience has only gotten older. I just don’t get it. Again it can only be that tiny group of radical CNFW’s (crazy non-feminist weirdos) and their agenda effecting our hobby. Capcom is the only group bowing down, why don’t the folks at Rockstar Care, they have a game full of strippers and prostitutes but man Street Fighter, cartoon fighting better appease this group at the expense of our true fans because our true fans buy the game anyway, right?

Seriously considering buying used and that will be a first for me with any Capcom game.

Feminists of the 60’s fought for men’s right to draw a cartoon lady’s ass. By not drawing cartoon lady ass, Combofiend is literally strangling every last female on the face of the earth with his man-cock. Come on Combofiend, throw the ladies a bone (no pun intended ah-ah-ah-ah). Now, if you excuse me for a moment, it’s time to curl up in the closet and snort my daily dose of borax.

You were actually given a few points throughout the thread on why the changes are not classed as censorship, but you either ignored or didn’t read the posts, then claimed people who didn’t agree with you are part of some hysterical shadow group of Asperger virgins…

It’s called changing their minds, rethinking the ideas they are putting out there, and reconsidering the way they want to be seen. Capcom is a business, not some indy artist. Capcom sold out decades ago. Game is in beta, and even if it wasn’t - It is *their *game, their self-image, and their reputation.

**Censorship

ˈsensərˌSHip
noun

The practice of officially examining books, movies, etc., and suppressing **unacceptable parts.

ESRB did not censor Capcom, therefore this act was not done in any official or governmental capacity.

Butt slaps and bare asses are perfectly acceptable. Proof = They are both in the game, and gaming culture as a whole.

You simply CANNOT apply the word censorship to accurately and truthfully describe what Capcom did. Doing so only demonstrates poor grasp of the English language, and a penchant for melodrama.

This entire thread and its subsequent pretentious “movement” is founded on an overblown lie. By extension, its OP and self-proclaimed leader is a delusional fraud experiencing a manic episode. His entire credibility rests on alleged academic credentials, Natasha Ortiz (cuz she is a woman), oh and the 5 girls he has been with that have given him insight into the female mind and feminism as a whole. Yes, ParryAll is a feminist and that is why R.Mika should slap her butt for us on camera. Feminism. I’m actually not making this up.

I’m done here. Good luck MLK/Jesus/Jane Fonda/ParryAll.

Thank God.

So hey guys just an update after doing some research.

I think cooler heads are going to prevail.

Most people get it when you read around the various news articles and discussion boards.
