the only thing this really proves is that the ESRB is really bad at doing their jobs. so bad that most people don’t really give a damn what ratings their games have, or what their kids are playing.
and when you’re dealing with a ratings board that is inconsistent as heck it makes sense to be extra conservative if you are aiming for a T rating.

This group isn’t appeased with the changes made to the game. They will not be happy until each female is “anatomically correct”, boobs covered and nothing greater than a B cup, because obviously D cups don’t exist in real life, etc etc.
So why not appease the actual fans of the game instead of a small group of off the deep end folks who will never be satisfied. It’s silly. And this bad press and negative hype is going to effect the games launch.
We know the ESRB excuse doesn’t hold water. There is no reason this can’t be an option defaulted to censorship, like in Mortal Kombat on the Genesis. That game was far worse and only had an MA-13 rating back then.

Does anyone have examples of T-rated games that are far worse than SFV besides the Tekken example (which was very good since it’s the exact same thing, but I need a few more).
Censor has nothing to do with ESRB ratings.

Sounds like they did it under their own volition, because they felt it would be better for buisness. I can respect that. Seems odd that a butt slap is more potentially offensive than butt sandwiching a person’s head, but it is what it is.

I’d love to know the focus groups and sites that Capcom pays attention to. Capcom Unity is the only page really where this is a heated discussion. So if they pay attention perhaps it will be an option in the menu.

If they want to make their games less offensive more power to them but they need to actually do shit not change one thing that didnt matter in the first place.

That was part of my point, you won’t necessarily get consistency with ratings, since it is a human process. Just because Capcom and others passed similar content previously, it does not mean that they always will be able to. I don’t know how the ESRB process works, but it sounds like they don’t actually play the games:

So according to their website, the ratings are conducted by different people each time. They watch a video and read a questionnaire, not actually play the game. Considering how many characters a fighting game has, they might simply view a sample rather then witness every move for every character. Again, just speculation, but I think it might answer the inconsistencies you highlighted. If so, then it was not Capcom lying, just simply them dealing with an inconsistent process.

The only thing I’m gonna say I absolutely disagree with what @d3v stated about “If it doesn’t effect the gameplay, it’s not a problem” type of route.
By that logic, you can change Street Fighter, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, etc. into a white space fighter with stick figures and make the differences be hitboxes and such since again, visuals must not matter compared to gameplay…
But as we know from Virtua Fighter out in the West, that’s a bold faced lie. Visuals do matter to a great extent to get people to play the games in the first place. Gameplay may keep them in the games but the visuals are what helps them get into it in the first place.

It’s not sensual, she really didn’t d anything sexual and I’ve seen plenty of shows that has ass-smacking as a form of taunt rather than anything of sexual provocation(and most of these is children shows or are from mature shows but never meant to be sexual and more of taunting). It would be a better argument if she grabbed her ass, but a light slap by itself is absolutely ridiculous if this is meant to be ESRB(which again, goes against their track record).
I liked it mainly because it actually fit her character and her moveset. A good chunk of her moves has her landing ass first on someone so it makes sense it’s her pride and joy and she would be proud of it(not to mention the taunt itself of “I’m gonna smash you with this”)
And when there has been far worse with the T Rating…it just seems ridiculous that it alone is the reason(especially since as someone showed, the ESRB and American culture altogether is far more restrictive about sex than most other countries) of why.
