wasnt the Japanese arcade ending of Lilith altered in the US/Europe versions? It shows Morrigan hugging her and Lilith licks her exposed breast
Dont know if they included this in Resurrection
While I can understand the point you’re trying to make I don’t really know if the logic carries over for both situations. I don’t know the circumstances of the change for blanka’s stage but it was stated directly by Ono that the internal decision to remove R.Mika’s butt slap and cammy’s intro were to make people feel more comfortable. It was a effort to avoid offending anyone and to make the game more accessible to people. In other words the decision was influenced out of curtesy to other people’s sensibilities. If we take Ono on his word then this would be a example of self-censorship by definition.
It’s not courtesy, it’s smart business. There is potential profit to be gained or lost depending on the context of the market. There is a sense of victimhood associated with the word censorship/self-censorship that is misplaced, misrepresentative, and dishonest in describing our situation. Capcom are not victims of an evil army of SJWs like the OP is trying to make it seem (Which he is yet to provide evidence for this backlash/decrying), Capcom are business savvy. That is how a massive corporation survives for decades, you adapt to the times.
Did Capcom censor Dictator when they changed his name overseas to Bison? Can you honestly call it that? The problem with this entire thread and discussion is the focus is on Capcom. Why try to hold them accountable in any way shape or form. You have no right.
If imagined or real SJWs and censorship are becoming a problem in US culture, society, and markets, then your beef is with US culture, society, and markets. Don’t get pissed off or point the finger at Capcom for trying to make it. Why is this so hard to understand? How blinded by your self-entitlement do you have to be to completely miss Capcom’s intent.
The survival of the Street Fighter franchise is paramount, Mika’s ass camera angle is NOT worth risking a hit to the sales - even though it will probably not affect the sales one bit if it was kept. You cannot blame Capcom for doing what* it has always done*, adjust and adapt the game for different markets to ensure maximum and smooth sales. The only difference today is, that you had the privilege of seeing these changes happen in real-time during development. This privilege doesn’t earn you the right to give your opinion, make demands, or try to coerce a change in the development, unless Capcom themselves specifically asked for it.
Call it what you will at the end of the day. Censorship, editing, trial and error, marketing, business savvy, etc. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s none of your business. Buy SFV if you don’t care, and don’t if your principles have been bruised over a shift of camera angle. What fragile principles you have if they were.
Don’t worry about it. In SSFV, R.Mika’s CA2 has her take off all her clothes and masturbate for you to make up it to all the horny boys betrayed by the “censorship”. Yes the camera will be focused on the right places this time, yes Nadeshiko will be involved, and yes it combos from anything.
I can’t believe this thread is still going on and I can’t believe how people can see this as the straw that broke the camel’s back. There’s stuff like yes means yes, colleges being allowed to internally investigate rape allegations and students protesting until talks are cancelled and curriculums changed. These are concerns with actual real world consequences, but what gets you lot in an uproar is a company making a trivial change to increase expected sales or alternatively, making the cheapest possible change they can to bring down the rating? That’s what gets you going with petitions and assembling some kind of militia of internet crazies?
See you’re starting to act like Parry All. But instead of being over zealous and paranoid about censorship you’re that way with sexual content. With the mud slinging and this dismissive tone of “hurr hurr hurr you’re all virgins that want to jack it to a fictional woman hurr hurr hurr”. Stop that. That’s not the point they’re arguing. Now honestly I don’t see this as a case of censorship and I agree with you on that. And that’s the point you should stick to arguing. That this isn’t a case of censorship, it’s just a business doing what they feel is best for their product. The game is in beta and susceptible to such changes. And as I stated before Jap devs have been doing this since the 90’s long before SJWs and feminist started getting all up in gaming. With that said though people have brought up a valid point. In how Ono said “They didn’t want to make people feel uncomfortable”. I agree when someone said Ono fucked up with that statement. he sure did. Because he gave the impression that he caved into pressure.
Also it’s not consistent with everything else. The butt slap and Cammy’s intro are altered to tone down the fan service and appeal to a wider demographic. Ok get that. But yet there is still two women mashing their butts in their opponents faces, Mika still utilizes attacks involving her butt, 3 out of the 5 playable females are in thongs, Cammy’s critical art ending still gives you a great look at dat ass, And Chun’s CA while whereing that alt makes the butt slap look like nothing. Do Capcom honestly believe removing the butt slap and altering Cammy’s intro alone would get those who would other wise pass on this game due to fan service to play? I doubt it because there are things in this game I listed that make the butt slap look like nothing. I brought this up before.
If Capcom really wanted to go that route they should’ve followed Neatherealms example with MKX. They did a 180 from what we saw in MK9 aesthetics and character design wise. Even the “sexy” character of the game Mileena was toned down considerably. Sure MKX still had its fan service moments like D’Vorah’s kiss of death on Mileena, Mileena and Tanya’s pre combat dialogue, Kitana’s attack where she hurls herself at you butt first. But overall the fan service in that game was very minimal. They wanted to push the game in a more serious direction and they went al the way with it. If Capcom wanted to do that with SFV to appeal to more people. Hey more power to them. I mean earlier SF titles had little fan service like SF3 and we still enjoyed them. And Neatherealms did make bank with MKX. But they seem to being doing a half assed job in which they try to please everyone, by removing a lil fan service but still keeping some other risqué stuff in, and wind up making no one happy.
OK then why aren’t you out there doing something about it? Don’t get mad at others for not fighting a fight you find important. Go fight it. Me? I didn’t go to college, so I don’t really care what goes on in college. Where as I love Videogames. So I’m more concerned about what goes on in the industry. Now the rape thing, that’s important though. I’ll give ya that. But this isn’t the place for that discussion. Let us have our discussion man.
In the ending with Morrigan. You see Morrigan hold Lilith close to her chest, and Lilith presses her face in between Morrigan’s breast before phasing into her. Now I don’t know if she actually sucks on her boobs or not. Hard to tell.
I’m Swedish and can’t influence American law in any way.
Some of that stuff would be quite a bit more expensive to change. If they’d revamp the costumes, they’d also have to change every bit of promotional art, redraw every cutscene and depending on the change, perform QA to make sure it doesn’t look wonky in some situations. Creating new animations is also a pretty significant undertaking. I agree that it’s weird that they let other stuff that’s trivial to change fly. Maybe they feel like they can’t get the other ass shots to look decent by just changing the camera angle, and would have to create new animations altogether. Maybe they feel like there were too many instances of fan service and just reducing the quantity is enough, or maybe they felt like Mika’s shot was particularly vulgar, or that Mika in particular just had too much lewd stuff. I can’t recall Cammy’s ass being particularly prominent in her CA? You just see it for a split second when she spins around? I can’t comment on how Capcom expects these changes to entice people who would other wise pass, but I’m assuming it’s because of rating, which would obviously increase the sales potential.
Zangief doesn’t deserve to slap anyone’s ass without consent, a privilege you earn not deserve. He is actually violating her personal space in that image which is beside the point. That being that Zangief likes penis.
I get there was a sarcastic tone to your comment. But it was sarcastic in the sense that you were be litling those that feel some type of way about this. You still meant what you said about horny boys wanting to jack it to Mika. But if I’m wrong I my bad.
Dude have you seen Chun Li’s critical art in her alt??? As for a lesser rating generating more sales. Aren’t M rated titles some the best best selling ones? Hell MKX is one of the best selling games of 2015.
@Koricthegreat There’s actually a legit cultural difference though that Japan game devs have acknowledged since the 90’s. They’ve been altering things in games for western audiences since the 90’s. This really ain’t nothing new.

Social justice for all! Yippeeee!

That was a magical response that made my day for a hundred million years.
Anyway, I’m starting to read peoples comments, and, I really gotta get off these comment sections man, I’m trying to be productive with my life! Mika’s ass will consume me!
I saw a comment for an “I’m a grown up option”. That wud B awsome, like, you know, buying explicit albums. But nobody buys music like that anymore…I don’t think…uuggghhh I should go now.
P.S. I don’t think that quote button worked for me.
ONE MORE THING!.. I’m prepared to try to keep the petition growing till Street Fighter 6 comes out. <_<
@BB_Hoody Ah, yes. But this is special. I mean. The boob jiggle physics are gone too right? But like…we loved Mika’s slap. They excecuted her return to street fighter perfectly. Removing the slap from view really spoils the hype. For me, every trailer for street fighter made me more hype. This is kind of a major bummer…and then they show me F.A.N.G., who, by the way, I think is kinda cool now…still kinda shocks me that hes the boss though.
By the way. @noosetester , this is probably the straw that broke the camel’s back because, while real issues are more real. Some people are trying to just mind their buisness and enjoy their hobby. You start rustling feathers and making enemies who never would have been, had they remained distracted by their hobbies. I believe Parryall said he just learned about SJW stuff just recently. Or at least in the first page of this post. He probably counts as someone who was minding his buisness till just now.
I have, but I’m not the one making the call. I’m only speculating on their thought process. Chun’s CA in her alt looks over the top, but as I said, maybe they feel like they can’t just change the camera angle without it looking like garbage, and the costume might’ve been already completed when the call was made.
As for ratings, it depends on the product. MK’s whole gimmick is the gore. I don’t think Kung-fu Panda 3 will do too well if they include some hot torture porn to bump that rating up to an M, for example. Butt slaps aren’t important to Street Fighter in the same way that skull fucking corpses is to MK. A lesser rating serves SF better, while a greater serves MK better.
@noosetesterAn ass slap has no place in virtua fighter.
I think it’ll do fine in streetfighter. It’s Mika after all. Anyway, as far as “sexual content” goes. I think Mika is as far as street fighter will ever go. Shes testing streetfighters limits right now I guess. Shes setting the bar. I’d kinda like her slap to live (in view of the camera). And I’m not expecting that stuff to become the norm. Its signurature Mika.
And I don’t think the slap was going to push the game to an M rating. Ono: “no external influences were involved!”
I’m not buying it was done to earn a Teen rating. I mean a zoom in on a butt slap was the deciding factor on wether Street Fighter gets a M rating or not? With all these other things in the game. Including the just mentioned Cammy poses? Nah not buying that. If the ESRB would slap a M rating on SFV for the butt slap I’m sure they would’ve slapped a M rating on it for other things as well. Ono even said on record that this was done so that not to offend people. In an attempt to appeal to more potential players. That’s what it was. No way anyone is about convince me it was done to earn a Teen rating with all the other stuff still in the game that is more obscene that a butt slap. And that brings me back to my earlier point. if Capcom wanted to tone down the sex appeal and fan service to appeal to a wider demographic. That should’ve been the idea they went into with SFV from jump. Like Neatherealm did with MKX. Not at the last minute start trying to town stuff down after they clearly wanted it in the game from jump. It just looks indecisive and inconsistent on their part. If they want to tone things down because they believe it will get more players and sales. Fine. But actually go all the way with it. Not just remove two things and call yourselves appealing to a wider demographic. Who are they kidding???
