SFV Censorship

I like it how everyone forgets about this

Here is a scene from Final Fantasy 8 OMG Censorship, we can’t see a 5’2" 120lbs Quistis eat a 2 ton monster by here self with no remains (her Devour ability).

Or did the game designers made a design choice as they do not have the technical means to animate what is actually happening so they create this fake censorship screen to create the illusion of something is happening just off camera. Guess what that isn’t Censorship, that is good old fashion misdirection to create a feel for thing that can’t be done practically.

Rooflizard nailed it.

Capcom didn’t cave into any censorship, they made a design decision based on what they feel is good business. There is no legal ramifications in ether Japan, Europe or the United States one way or another for Capcom.
At the worst Capcom would have a hire rating from groups like the ESRB, which isn’t censorship just a maturity rating to let the consumer know what kind of content could be found in the game.

My employer, who is totally not Capcom, has an obligation to make as much money as possible for shareholders. I imagine Capcom has a similar mandate.

Would 2.99 USD be a fair price for adjusted camera angles? Would the inclusion of a character giving the middle finger sway your opinion either way? My understanding is that any ESRB rating only applies to the base game, not to DLC. Thank you in advance for your response.

Okay, Morpheus.

Per the ESRB website:

https://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_process.aspx

The problem with your post is you picked 1 definition to fit your view out of 3. The other 2 do not fit your view of the definition of self-censorship. Cherry picked arguments are the worse type to make.

Also, not censoring something doesn’t mean you go to jail or worse. Are you retarded? Have you never read about 90’s censorship removing things like crosses from games like Faxanadu to avoid criticism and outrage by the religious right? You think they’d go to jail if the put crosses on the churches in those games, called the “Gurus” priests which is what they were, and so on? You think Konami’s developers or Nintendo would go to jail for keeping the crosses in Castlevania games in? No, that’s just fucking retarded. That’s called censoring to avoid controversy, which Nintendo wanted none of at the time so they made a policy to remove religious references from their games.

Same shit happened on PS with games like Star Ocean 2 changing the names of the villains during the localization process to avoid pissing of religious fanatics. Same with other references in the likes of the Xeno series, which the most recent game was censored.

In this case and the DOAX3 case, the developers simply decided to avoid dealing with the controversy and changed shit on their own, the very definition of self-censorship according to 2 of the links I provided. Word for word. Koei-Tecmo decided to not even release the game here because they don’t want to deal with the backlash from people too sensitive to handle fictional girls in bikinis on a screen. They practically self-censored the whole game.

Now, I realize the change is extremely minor and frankly, not worth 8 pages of retard posts, but to tip toe around it and call it design choice and not self-censorship to avoid controversy is short sighted. Personally, I don’t see why they’d change one small thing to avoid controversy while having a hundred other things that are going to piss off the sensitive cry baby pussies we have in society these days. Really, I just can’t wait for some idiot to start up a firestorm of outrage when they see Necalli brutally smash some female character’s face into the ground during a cinematic and call it pandering to toxic masculinity violence against women and start up Twitter slacktivisim petitions to get them to remove all the male on female violence.

People have already stated here, buy the game or don’t, and vote with your wallet if it means so much to you. Just don’t pretend it’s something it isn’t.

I get what you are saying and agree with it, but I call bullshit on capcom seeing shit fit or trying to be better with how they treat women. RMika is still damn there half naked.

When they start making some less offensive minority characters I’ll believe they are trying to change. But for now I will think this edit was done to alleviate some pressure they could’ve felt in the future and they are probably hella happy with the choice because its still what people are talking about (giving them free PR)

OMG OMG Holy shit! Bayonetta in Smash? YES YES YES! Finally! YES YES!

They will make less offensive minority characters when it is bad business (in their market of choice) to make offensive minority characters. Also understand that these offensive minority characters are only offensive to a limited spectrum of cultures and perspectives. Anyway, I don’t think Capcom is trying “to be better with how they treat women”. Capcom are saying “it’s just a buttslap, let’s not make a big deal and focus on it. Here let me start”. This isn’t censorship IMO, this is smart business. I would do something very similar if I was going to release my family-aimed product in a place as insane as the US right now.

Capcom aren’t making progressive/subversive high art, they are not trying to push our buttons, make social statements, or open international dialogues about women’s issues/censorship. They want to sell and keep selling Street Fighter games for many years to come, and more importantly, PROFIT. Why are they bad for simply wanting to do that? Why are we holding them to such high standards on these completely irrelevant issues? FFS R.Mika is still slapping her ass.

I think you’d be surprised about how many minorities are annoyed with how they are portrayed in capcom games (all games if we are being fair). I think that we dont say anything about it because no one likes to talk about race. But talking about sexism is ok (recently).

I dont think this is censorship either, but I dont think the change will make someone say “NOW I think I will buy this game for my son/daughter” And I think thats what annoys people the most. Leaving it in will do the same as taking it out which is nothing. Same people are still going to buy it. And if someone doesnt buy it because the slap is in or out then they probably werent the demographic capcom wanted anyway.

If this was aimed to be a family game I would think breast sizes need to go down and more useful clothing would have to be put on.

I do like that fans call capcom out on their shit though, no matter how big or small. They have become a DLC heavy company that milk fans for so much. And if fans want to pay they are well withing their rights but listening to people bitch about the shit that pisses them off is something that comes with that.

I sugest you pay a closer attention to Bayonetta’s “clothes” when she summons parts of demons.

Eh what the heck… I’ll point it out. Her hair covers a lot more of her body in SSB, than it does in the games. A lot more.

You do parry all.
Intelligence, good arguments, sanity… all parried. Nothing gets through you.

I hope not, but if something in my post got up your bum enough for you to insult me then I apologize, it was not meant to be an aggressive post. Again, none of those things you listed are censorship, but we would only go in circles from here.

Regardless, the situation with SFV is far tamer than any of those examples. Both Mika and Cammy are still half naked, a camera was simply shifted. There’s nothing to tip-toe around… I don’t think there was a single petition or outraged SJW blogger, all the furor has come from those supposedly against that kind of behavior.

The whole concept behind this thread in general

Tell me right now what’s not getting through.

So far let’s see. Daemos and I agree. I totally clowned people who don’t understand a book definition of censorship. Explain to me what I’m missing.

No offense to the cool people, but the basement dwellers who try to take over the thread: It’s all yours. I got what I wanted, the wheat has been separated from the chaff, you can continue to jerk each other off talking about God knows what and arguing with God knows who. Thanks.

It’s the same 4 people over and over liking each others comments which are from outer space. It’s hard to keep up with you no lifers.

Have you looked into a mirror today?

I just did.

Quite frankly, I don’t see Daemos agreeing with you. He seems quite level headed and I’d assume offended you pair him with you.

You’re naive and childish. You refuse to listen to others, prefering instead to latch on to other misguided users who don’t know what they’re talking about.

You mentioned above that Nintendo added Bayonetta right? That was your defense on how Capcom shouldn’t have censored Mika, right?
You might not have noticed, but her outfit when she uses her summons, isn’t showing nearly as much skin as it did in her original game. That’s censored.

Capcom changed the camera focus on Mika. Nintendo changed Bayonetta’s outfit.

No you didn’t.

You just vaguely said “this isn’t getting through”. What’s not getting through? Be specific. Do you even know? Or are you one of those guys who just says shit for the sake of causing friction. Quick manufacture something. Like that guy who said that there was tons of press without researching then posted 2 articles that were in favor of what I said and 3 obscure blogs he found on the Dark Net.

Seriously what are these “intelligent, good, sane” arguments I am supposedly parrying?

And no dumbass, that’s not my argument. Read the first page. The Bayonetta news is new.

First Daemos said that this wasn’t censorship. Then I absolutely destroyed him. This was on page 3 or 5 or something. Then after a bunch of weird personal attacks he finally comes out with how he feels, and he’s against the change. It took like 7 pages of him crying and being weird to finally get that out of him. Not that I’ve been paying attention to him other than making fun of him every now and again. He’s envious of how awesome I am and I can’t help him with that. Envy is a sin.
