Review scores? You think that capcom would be scared or even think that a butt slap would lower review scores?
So a few of your friends decided to skip the game because of a camera change (LOL). Ok, you gave your anecdotal evidence.
Now here’s reality: The hardcore fanbase, the one going to tournaments and keeping the game alive, are not the largest market. Never have been, never will be. We’re a very tiny portion of the total sales.
Casuals are the ones who decided if the game is successful or not. It’s why you see these gaming companies focusing on single player modes that we simply don’t care about. To us, all we need are the training mode, offline and online vs mode. That’s it.
This doesn’t cut it for a casual gamer. They need something more to validate the money they gave for the game. Casuals will play this game for a month and then drop it. But it’s these people that are the driving force of sales.
So what happens when you face the extremely large possibility (and it started happening when R. Mika was revealed) of annoying said casuals? Loss of sales.
You gave the example of Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. I don’t remember any of these games featuring a female fighter slapping her almost naked buttocks, with the camera focusing on said buttocks. Even Mileena, who has been racy in nearly every game, is somewhat modest in MKX.
It’s a shame, but that’s currently the world we live in.
No. Feminism does not do any of those things. Real feminism is about fighting for equal rights for women. It’s about saying that women are just as capable as men and should never feel inferior to the opposite gender.
That’s it. It’s not about the desire to control men.
What you’re talking about is a misapropriation of the word to pass an agenda. Which unfortunately does happen nowadays. Real feminists are disgusted at how some girls/women use the word as a means to say they’re better than men.
The real truth of the matter is that, like any large-scale social movement, the ‘core’ of Feminist origins and activities cannot be boiled down to any one, single description.
Is the core of it about gaining equal rights for women? Sure
Is the core of it about women wanting to be more powerful than men? Okay
Did it have origins stemming to class-based discrimination with upper-class women disdainful of the fact that ‘low class’ men could vote and they could not? An argument could be made for that, yup.
Is any one of these things 100% untrue? No. Is one of these the gospel-truth? Also no.
As with most things in the world, the reality lies firmly in the middle along a spectrum of gray.
Is feminism, ideally, about raising all peoples to a place of equality, bettering the situation for all? Many would say this is indeed the ideal.
Is feminism, at its worst, about people propagating an agenda of control and authority in which they have a vested interest for the betterment of no one but themselves? Many would say this is a valid criticism (and one that is valid of most if not ALL large-scale social movements)
Finding “real” feminism is like finding a true Scotsman…the word is owned by too many individuals with different view points and, in some cases, by individuals that are either unaware of the truth of their own natures or that just possess a maliciousness they’re aware of but hide for their own purposes.
Modern progressives are like a leftist Tea Party. They have become so extremist in their views that it has become difficult to tell reality from parody anymore when it comes to them. To them everything is racist and everything is sexist. Nothing is ever enough.
As for what real feminism is, I feel that’s not relevant here. Real feminists, as described by some in this thread, are agitating for the rights of actual oppressed women in true patriarchal societies. Trying to do something about honor killing and other issues of that magnitude. They’re not whining online about fictional characters slapping their ass. As far as Street Fighter V discussion is concerned, we can limit our definition of “feminism” to just the internet outrage provocateurs.
Casuals don’t post on neogaf and casuals aren’t the ones who complain, but casuals will react to negative stuff and a soured sense of hype which this controversy has created.
What’s this social justice warriors stuff? You mean people fighting for justice and just causes, like ending the wars overseas or stopping central banks from robbing us, or fighting big money interests and saving the planet from deforestation and pollution? What does social justice have to do with this thread? Oh wait Nevermind yeah I agree we need social justice because censorship of women is anti feminism and anti free speech, does against free expression and really sucks for the artist.
Anyways. I don’t think we need to bring up social totalitarian weirdos STW’s anymore that’s like talking about Nazis or the KKK. The less they are spoken of the better.
but they post on reddit. And tumblr. And other cesspools. Don’t just focus on Neogaf.
Sure, most of these “issues” are brought to light by a member of the core community. But if casuals latch on to it, you can be sure that sales will take a hit.
Correction - he WAS awesome. All what the dude does these days is posts these SJW rants for dat Max CPM viewership, his channel is slowly becoming less focused on games and more on the shitty news, and that’s not what I subscribed him for
Reddit talks about Street Fighter? The more you know.
I agree with you fully that the casual market drives sales. The casual market is the main driver of Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Grand Theft Auto V. Where is the outrage there? Grand Theft Auto 5 allows you to have sex with prositures for crying out loud and Mortal Kombat lets you dismember them ffs.
There’s no censorship, just product decisions regarding target audience, marketing and so on. You all need to grow up and realise this is a global product. Your SJW’s are irrelevant outside the USA and Capcom is shipping the same product worldwide.
AOS actually lives in the same city as me (Pittsburgh FTW). We have a huge arcade here and another that is pinball only, haven’t ever seen him at either, but if I do I’m shaking his hand. And who knows maybe you’ll see me in one of his videos someday.
I’m not subscribed, but he has some high profile friends like James AVGN Rolfe, and his rant on SFV censorship was epic.
GTA has reached cult status. Few franchises reach that. No matter what GTA does, no matter how unpolitical correct it is, it’ll sell.
And violence, for some reason that I as an european cannot possibly understand, isn’t viewed as bad as showing some skin by the american people.
Just look at television. Violence is ok. Sex is a no no.
How naive, delusional even, of you to believe that the number of pages or views this particular thread gets will have any effect whatsoever on what goes on in Capcom’s boardroom. Not even a 100 pages or 100,000 views here will make a difference. You would understand this to be true if you were serious or competent about your cause, but alas you are not. The decision has already been made, Capcom won’t backtrack on their actions twice. Not for your horny ilk, or feminazis/SJWs.
Can’t blame me for keeping myself entertained though, we gotta do something here while waiting for Street Fighter 5’s (without R.Mika’s zoomed in buttslap) release in due time.
Well 3rd Strike is actually the poster child for both equality and non censorship.
There is almost no objectification of women whatsoever. However with guys we have a visible bulge in Remys skinny jeans, we have Urien and Gill practically naked, we have huge animated junk on Dudley flopping around and we have Oro’s ball sack visible on at least one animation frame.
Of course every male in the game also has a perfect body or impossible proportions like Hugo, but it’s only a problem when it’s a female and all the stuff I just listed is way way way worse than a woman slapping her buttox, yet 3rd Strike is rated T for Teen cartoon violence and visible testicles.
