Gaming companies aren’t afraid of GG, they’re afraid of bad press or controversy. They’re afraid of being labeled some kind of -ist. Some like George Kamitani or Hideki Kamiya don’t give a fuck, but there are some who do.
As far as gaming publications not giving a game a low score because of sexy female characters? Haha! Bayonetta 2 would like a word with you.
I could totally understand if Capcom were releasing SFV on iPhone/iPad and NX, but the PS4 is a core gamers platform, and it’s huge right now, it’s doing near PS2 numbers it’s really something. The hardcore gaming community kind of dug their own grave. If they had just ignored ‘gamergate’ and that girl, it would have blown over. It’s the controversy that has given them power. If there was no controversy, and people just laughed it off and ignored it, then it wouldn’t have effected anything. Instead people obsessed over it sent countless nasty emails and tweets and counter videos. If comments and dislikes were enabled then game publishers would see how unpopular it really is. The way it is now, the controversy will cool and it will be forgotten in a few years time, but this is just bad timing and it’s a real shame it has negatively effected pretty much the only video game I care about releasing now and in the forseeable future.
I’m kind of glad this happened, because she ended up in front of the United Nations and those that supported her got to see first hand how mentally ill she is, calling for internet censorship calling for making it illegal to disagree with someone online or call someone stupid. She’s exposed herself so I’m very happy with that but, I’m very ashamed with Capcom ashamed of Ono and everyone who let this happen Combofiend should have said “look, this is hype the community likes it” and explained exactly how I have that this movement has no real teeth and for Ono to ignore it because Ono doesn’t live in the West nor speak English, you can’t blame him for not fully understanding what’s going on.
Look in the grand scheme of things. People might be looking at me because I started this thread as some kind of “leader” of this “movement”. Please don’t. Ok. All I did was start a thread for something that a lot of us were thinking about. I’m not the poster child for this. At the end of the day, I care WAYYYY more about game balance, I care way more about sales, I want this game to be huge, and that’s part of why I’m saying what I’m saying because this will hurt the game. All Capcom has done is drawn attention to something that didn’t need to be a big deal. Nobody thought anything bad about V in it’s former form, but now that they’ve done this, the extreme side on the left will start looking at other things. They’ll say "wait so you changed this but MIKAS CUP SIZE ISNT ADDRESSED. WHAT ABOUT THOSE SEXIST WOMEN ON THE BRAZIL STAGE and of course our side will say “wtf is with this stupid censorship”. I think the only way to resolve it at this point is to just make an option. Fan Service on or off in the menu. Or make it a code lol harkening back to the early 90’s and blood codes in Mortal Kombat and various Atari Jaguar fighting games.
Right, but it wasn’t the “gaming media” it was a small group of stuck up neoGAF posters.
I even drew attention to that during the Mika reveal on my personal community page. I said “wtf is up with the Mika haters, I don’t get it, she’s awesome”.
No doubt that same group took to their email mobiles and now we have the results of their pent up virgin rage.
It’s a tiny group that had no intention of even buying the game in the first place, they will never be satisfied until every woman is fully clothed, has frumpy bodies, and doesn’t express themselves in any sexual way shape or form. Ever.
Even though that’s totally against what feminism is really about, that’s why you call this group what it really is: STW’s Social totalitarian weirdo’s.
If there’s anything I want people to take away from this, it’s to call these people what they really are whenever you come across them any place on the internet. Do not dignify them by calling them SJW’s because this is not a social justice movement at all, it is a social totalitarian movement and I promise you if you start doing that they will be embarrassed and be forced to reassess themselves.
We ran into a real problem as a society when we started allowing for manufactured outrage to be monetized.
The only useful tactic I’ve found is dialing up to 13 when they’re at 11. When an outrage machine goes into full swing just use every single one of their tactics against them by meticulously attacking every nuance of English used in their argument.
Oh you said someone’s way of thinking was becoming outdated and their “geriatric ass” was just upset about that? Well, ‘geriatric ass’ is age-based hate-speech that demeans peoples of more advanced age, associating them with outmoded thinking or foolishness. Please issue a retraction of your statement, an apology, and then check your age-based privilege by removing yourself from the conversation. Thank you.
Called someone a moron? Moron is a term used to describe someone with mental impairment resulting in them possessing the cognitive function of an 8 to 12 year old child. Stop using hate-speech against those with cognitive impairments, retract your statements, issue an apology, check your mental privilege and remove yourself from the conversation. Immediately. Thank you.
The methodologies used by people like this are so morally and logically bankrupt it’s a simple matter to trip them up in their own bullshit. It’s also HILARIOUS because they’re usually…hm…what’s the pc term for this?..really really fucking stupid in general so they get all tripped up and have melt-downs that are brilliantly funny.
My point is that Capcom didn’t deal with the backlash. They capitulated, paving the way for more demands to be made of them in the future.
I don’t care one way or the other about the censorship. I care about Capcom possibly opening themselves up to more attacks in the future. Censoring the butt slap would have been fine for me. All they had to do was say that they changed the camera angles because they wanted to. Just say “we like it better this way so we changed it”. That’s all they needed to do. The mistake was not the censorship. The mistake was Ono’s proclamation that they did it to avoid causing offence. It’s like a proclamation to the world that if you raise a big enough stink Capcom will cave to your demands.
TLDR: I’m against censorship, but I never expected Capcom to make any kind of principled stand against it to begin with so I am ambivalent to their self-censorship here. What annoys me is how badly they went about doing it, opening themselves up to more risk than necessary.
Completely off topic, was on Capcom unity forum, and someone was asking why his pirated copy of a Capcom game doesn’t work on his computer. He literally put pirated copy in his thread. It was hilarious.
Oh, I’m not confused, my friend. Feminism thrives on ignorance and complacency of the general public, shrouded by feel-good slogans about gender equality. Objective observation of feminist behaviour proves that at its heart, feminism stems from certain womens’ desires to control men. It is the root cause of countless problems in society, including the SJW movement.
Well put. As the old saying goes, you give them an inch and you give them a mile. Caving to the demands of SJWs is the same as caving to the demands of children - they instantly lose respect for you and they will try to push their boundaries further.
