Hey folks,

If you’re from California, you may recognize me as the organizer and video guy for the (now retired) San Francisco gathering, Keystone Light. Well, I’m working at Sony now on PlayStation Home, and am starting up an event to help organize the community. With the Champioship Edition patch, Street Fighter IV now supports game launching direct from PlayStation Home, so you can meet with players in-world and hop into a multiplayer lobby just like that.

WHAT: A weekly Street Fighter IV game launching event
WHERE: The Mall, 1st Floor at the PlayStation Home logo [picture]
WHEN: Every Saturday from 6PM to 10PM PST
ADD: Home_SF4Night

IMPORTANT: Regarding the Home_SF4Night PSN ID. Please only add this if you fully intend to participate in the Saturday night game launching event. This is NOT a PSN ID for you to gain information from. Messages sent to it will never receive a response other than accepting friend requests. The only time you will see it online is when it is (a) accepting new friend requests and (b) the Saturday night event. You will not be able to see it in Home, either. Again, PLEASE only add this if you intend to play Street Fighter IV on Saturday nights. Thanks!

If you primarily play online through PlayStation Network, this is going to be a fantastic opportunity to meet new players, competition and build a bigger friends list. We have costumes for sale as well, so you should be able to tell the real players apart from everyone else … they’ll be dressed like Zangief :wink:

The first week or so will be simple gatherings, but should these prove to be popular we have plans to expand them to not only include special guests (beyond just your friends here at PlayStation Home), but contests, prizes and perhaps even a tournament. This will be our first true attempt a regularly occurring event, so we’ll see how it goes and take it from there. Also, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to share!

HOW TO GAME LAUNCH STREET FIGHTER IV VIA PLAYSTATION HOME

Insert the Street Fighter IV game disc into your PlayStation 3. You can do this at any time, regardless of whether you’re already in PlayStation Home or not.

  • Once in your desired location, press Start to open the Main Menu

  • Select “Game Launching”

  • Selcet “Set Up Game”

  • Select “Street Fighter IV”

  • From here, confirm the session and close the window. You should now see “Street Fighter IV” floating above your head

To join someone else’s game, simply walk up to their avatar, press X to select them and choose to join their game. It’s just that easy!

Can you move around and navigate in Playstation home using a joystick? If not, is it easy to switch out when you launch the game?

If you’re using a Mad Catz TE stick, then you can navigate Home with it, but it’s a pain in the butt. You have to switch to LS mode to run, and DP mode to navigate menus.

What I do is I plug in my stick first, then use my regular PS3 controller to navigate Home to find a match. Then, once I’m ready to go, I push the PlayStation button on my stick to bring up the XMB menu. From there, you can change the controller options, which allows to make your stick (which is probably 2nd player at this point) the 1st player controller and voila :smile:

I typically do that right before I launch the game.

You can have the Sixaxis/Dual Shock plugged into slot #1, and have your stick in #2. After game launching, it will ask you which controller you want to use by pressing start (#2). Be sure to have your buttons set up before the match begins.

There are many “instances” of the mall, so you won’t find everyone in the same place.

that was fun. thanks for setting such a thing up. wished there were more people. i discovered chess in the mall while browsing around for sf4’ers, so now i’m stuck on chess :o

Over at our forums, folks reporting that there it was definitely easier to find players to game launch with. I’ll have to see about cutting up a little promo movie or something to get word out more.

I showed up last night and found a non scrub Ken!! So for that to even happen made it a success for me. I think I’ll be around every Saturday from now on.
