SFIV PC vs. Bootcamp via Mac

Hi, I don’t get why I cannot run Street Fighter IV on my Bootcamped Macbook.

I got it installed and all, i got the error message saying: Failed to create a Direct3D something something.

I ran DXDiag, says I got DirectX 11, but anything related to 3d graphics, accelerated 3d whatever is “unavailable”. the video card says VGA Video Adapter, or something liek that.

Here the specs and spec requirements:

Macbook:
4GB RAM
2.4GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
250gb 5400rpm bootcamp partition = 100gb, currently 61gb free.
Nvidia GeForce 320M

Street Fighter IV requirements:

Minimum specs:

: Windows XP

: Intel Pentium4 2.0GHz or higher

: 1GB RAM or higher

: 10GB of free HDD space or more

: NVIDIA GeForce6600 series, ATI Radeon™ X1600 or higher or higher, DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 or higher compatible, VRAM 256MB or higher

: DirectSound compatible, DirectX 9.0c (or higher) compatible

Recommended Specs:

: Windows Vista

: Intel Core2Duo 2.0GHz or higher

: 2GB RAM or higher

: 10GB of free HDD space or more

: NVIDIA GeForce8600 series or higher, ATI Radeon™ X 1900 or higher, DirectX 9.0c/Shader3.0 or higher compatible, VRAM F512MB or higher

: DirectSound compatible, DirectX 9.0c (or higher) compatible

I dont understand why i cannot play it. Anyone know how to get around this fatal error shit?

Get new video card drivers.

Is the GeForce a video card or is that graphics card? or are they the same thing?

if it is, then the 320M is significantly newer…than the 8600

graphics card and video card are the same thing… I have bootcamp as well but the name of my video card shows up when i do dxdiag… there’s a problem as you shouldn’t see just “VGA Adaptor”… I’d go to nvidia’s website and download and install new drivers to see if that helps

I triple-boot Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro. I am hereby qualified to help you.

Ok. Go get the driver from here:

32-bit windows 7 - NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL
64-bit windows 7 - NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

Install the one that matches, reboot, and BE MERRY. =D

The Geforce 320M will not run SF4 smoothly at all regardless if you get bootcamp to work. That looks like a pretty dated system and the onboard gpu will barely handle 3D gaming.

Perhaps not, but if he installs drivers it will at least start. =) Turning everything super low will probably also help. =D

I planned on turning everythin to super low…, but i dont see how 320M is dated. it’s the gfx card used in the latest macbook…

i will try what bchan suggested and will get back to you helpful folks… thanks.

A 320M should run SFIV with no problem whatsoever. Heck, I’m running the freaking FFXIV beta on a MacBook Pro with a 330M without too many problems.

I recommend using the latest stable drivers (with a hacked .inf) from NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com. Apple underclocks their GPUs, so you’ll want to use an overclocking app to at least bring it up to standard speed (although you can safely go higher).

bchan it didn’t work i still get the direct3d msg…

NRX, the latest driver was what bchan suggested but the inf isnt modded according to them.

That is bizarre… Just to make sure, reinstall DirectX: Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

And try a driver from laptopvideo2go. I’ve always been told it’s better for performance to use hacked desktop drivers.

even if im using a laptop? and yes im downloading the drivers from laptopvideo2go.

after trying 2 drivers (259.32 win7 32bit & 259.47 win7 32 bit), i get this message when setup begins…
“The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardare. Setup will now exit.”

oh Bchan, that 258.96, the installed only let me install HD Audio…

reinstall directX failed because mine is direct x11. it came like that.

ok i just got my hands on the redistribute drivers had a bunch of drivers found a june 2010 d3dx11_43_x86…

edit: my laptop already has a d3dx11_43.dll but i havent figure out where these go: d3dx11_43_x86.cat, d3dx11_43_x86.inf, d3dx11_43_x86_xp.inf, JUN2010_d3dx11_43_x86.inf.

Even if you’re using a laptop, yeah (desktop drivers). You should be using the 64-bit drivers though, no? That could be the problem.

Ack, I may have given you the wrong link for DirectX 11. Use this and click on “DirectX End-User Runtimes Installer”: Microsoft DirectX Downloads

my computer is a windows 7 professional 32-bit(6.1 build 7600), might i add, this OS was imaged by my school…when i boot up i log onto my account but theres a laptop admin… so could there be some sorta stupid permissions rule? I hate the newer windows for these retarded admin and permissions shit.

Did you install the drivers from your OS X install DVD? After you setup windows, there are several windows drivers specific to your Mac that you need to install from your OS X DVD. Just pop it in while you are in Windows and run the setup on there.

Oh yeah? You should be running a 64-bit build of Windows 7 on that machine, if I’m not mistaken.

Good point from Jolt – the various Windows drivers from the OSX install disc are very important.

yes i just came to me i forogt about the osx discs… those thing collected dust as i never reall needed them. i tried making a new partition on my iMac, and 2 times i could not connect to the internet and then that was solved when i put in the disc. SFIV works on my iMac as that also had the direct3d issue, now it doesn’t.

I’m sure i got the rest from here, thanks a lot folks.

i think you have the same setup as i

you solved your own problem mate “osx discs”

you do have to set it pretty low though

I’ve been running my PC version a while god i wish they would release SSF4 for PC

actually i haven’t full solved the problem while i thought i did. I did get passed the direct3d issue, but I did so on my desktop, not on my laptop. So i tried to recreate the solution on my laptop and that failed…

So I tried to partition another drive using bootcamp and that didn’t work at first beause it didn’t ask me to partition a drive like it normally would, I figured it was because i already have an existing windows
HD present. So i let that for later, started up my windows partition, partitioned a drive there of 8GB out of 100GB. Now i got another partitioned drive so i tried that going through that boot camping process again.

It doen’t ask to partition any space but i can jump straight to installing windows after it reboots my computer. I find the 8gb partitioned space ladee-da, quick format to NTFS (not like that is important) and then it reboots.
I hold down the option button and was expecting to see a Macintosh HD, Windows, and another Windows. The latter was missing, i only got the windows i got from school and no new windows installed. i boot that up and then i get some next computer fuck up, I figured when i formatted that 8gb partition, i also fucked up the now 92gb windows partition… Don’t worry I had it backed up. Reason why I did this all in the first place was because the frikkin OS that my school did for me was windows 7. and the other widnows disc i had was sp2 and i figured this would have ensured that i could run the end-user direct x run installer thing…

Yup so tl;dr version: Problem isn’t solved 100%

Is there a way to make a new partition using Disk Utility? I’m not exactly sure how to do that with New Image… usually “New Image” to me meant a video game back up.

Well, here’s the deal.

  1. You have the latest macbook. That means it can PROBABLY do 32 bit or 64 bit or Windows 7. Just make sure of the one you’re using.

  2. If the nvidia reference drivers I linked you don’t work, then that means you have to get a driver from laptopvideo2go.

  3. If you get the drivers from laptopvideo2go, make sure you download both the driver AND the ‘modded inf file’. There’s usually a link to it near the link to the driver download. Make sure you take the ‘modded inf file’ and overwrite the one that comes with the driver. Install should go smoothly. If you get a ‘not supported hardware’ error, it’s because you’re not using the ‘modded inf’ file. Please read or ask someone at laptopvideo2go and they should help you out.

  4. The drivers that come on OSX discs are usually way old and outdated. They are EEEVIL.

  5. Messing with partitions and stuff will generally eff up your Bootcamp partition, as it doesn’t like it when things get moved around and such. If possible I’d just backup your important files to an external HDD, delete your Bootcamp partition and start over. If you want, format your entire HDD and start over. Once you eff up a bootcamp partition it’s a huge pain in the ass to fix and it’s not really worth it tbh.

I hope this helps. =)
