SFIV in Tacoma now!

lol oh no worries, i already expected a couple of these responses coming from u guys, thats how i learn =D. because i know i’m not a good player, and my motive is really sharing strategies and mind set with you guys so we can perhaps help the scenes out (if anyone really cares about what i think LOL). i’m not really good at getting points across to others…but i’ll try

well from playing cvs2, i started pretty late in that game and the competition in vancouver basically died after i played for a year, so the only way to learn is by watching videos. and by watching the japanese play seems to be the fastest way to improve, because they do the safest moves at the best scenario imo. i just learn their tricks and blend it into my playstyle, so i gotta at least be somewhat bias to follow the japanese trend, and i admit it, but i do not think we should be x-copying them. learning from what they are good at and improving on my style is my way to learn, and the best way imo. u can never figure everything by urself, because nobody is perfect, even in life, u read books. u learn from other ppls mistakes so u dont have to learn things the hard way. cole is right, u shouldnt COPY someone and make it ur own, you will never get better that way. but to understand what they are doing and IMPROVE it to better urself, is what learning is all about. japanese are not gods, they also watch each other and learn from playing others. because they have a larger competition, u have to admit they are learning twice, or 3 times faster than we do. skill wise only, they are ahead of us imo. its not dignity when ur learning from others…and wheres the dignity when you lose? i think rarely ppl would cheer for you because you lost even tho u discovered the tricks all by yourself.

and mike, kinda ironic there, but why do u point out that ryu is mid tier and say others are limiting themselves to thinking japanese way that ryu is top tier? arent u suppose to NOT limit urself and point out that ryu is top tier instead? i dunno kinda confusing  i do agree tho that BP doesnt REALLY mean shit, however knowing i cannot beat daigo is because even how hard i tell myself i can, i cannot. its knowledge, when u know where ur level can stand, understand and improve on your weaknesses and become a better player, instead of hyping up urself thinking i can take whoever out player vs player. mindset is an important part playing against a good player, but knowing what ur capable of is even more important. the reason why BP is SOMEWHAT reliable is because kenny is the same level as i am since we’ve played different characters against each other and we trade games usually, but when he goes against Joe the best C.viper in japan, he almost gets triple perfected. not only that, he’s also played the best blanka and bison he also gets raped. i might not be a good player, kenny might not be a good player, but they are for sure far better than we are. after talking to kenny and knowing him more in person, he openly admits he’s just below average in japan after playing some big names and high BP players. many of you might doubt about me and kenny’s skills, but we can both consistently beat everyone in our area, its just something i want to bring up, maybe there are players out there who are THAT good to the point where its not imaginable, where we get raped to the point where we look like total scrubs, like kenny did, and the people who are able to do so are in japan right now. i guess i can only trust kenny’s words, because he’s the only one who can beat me so consistently and happens to play the most ppl in japan, just thought i would want to share this

Links? Can I see where Dan is treated poorly? I’m pretty sure nothing’s been said about him post regional. I don’t recall anybody talking about him negatively, but perhaps you know something I don’t. Maybe you can show me something outside of the Northwest section that warranted your post. I think the “let’s protect Dan from the big bad Seattlites” angle is played out don’t you? I can see why Cole said we shouldn’t have these discussions anymore.

Also answer me this, if you played against a Japanese player, what would you be thinking?

A-"Oh man I’m screwed! But I’ll try my best!"
B-"There’s nothing I can do, there’s no way I’ll win!"
C-“I don’t give a fuck who I’m playing, let’s go!”

Cause I’ll tell you what, I think C no matter who I’m against. Positive attitude/mindset very much plays into any SF match. If I didn’t think I could win, why would I even bother playing?

You know what i find funny. The people that think japan is so much better then everyone else, have NEVER amounted to SHIT in games. Forever whimpering to there lack nationality when they or someone else loses. But the people that dont give a fuck where anyone is from and believe in there own shit, always edge in the competition. I dare anyone here to find someone great in ANY fucking game that straight up followed japanese this and that. You wont find a single fucking one.

Look at it like this. You see a guy with hot girlfriend. Straight up EX level. Do you?

A: Praise to the guy to Death and jack off to the thoughts of his Girlfriend at night.

or

B: Look at yourself and try to step your game up to do better then that guy and have a better looking girl.

If u ever think of advancing you level in games or life, you better fucking pick B. If you chose A, sure you after you jerk, Like gaming, you will feel a moments of greatness from time to time but its short lived and you know you will never be full satisfied.

You are fucking corny if you think the japanese are better in everything. Espically in a fucking game when THERE HASNT BEEN ANY COMPETITIONS IN THE FUCKING GAME IN QUESTION. If you already think someone is better then you before competition even starts. FUCKING QUIT, dont bother, dont even speak, Do not be heard or seen, Because you are wasting your time and real gamers air supply. Step up or shut up.

Brent: Hey man, not a problem. I have the utmost respect to you my dude, your a great guy…and though we but heads as far as gaming goes, I look past it. All in all, one of these days I’ll try and explain my reasoning to you in person so we can talk about it some day.

Jamie: Ya know, only until you came into this thread, did it become personal and drama filled. I HONESTLY didn’t try to target Dan at all. Dan specifically said that he wanted a debate, and I said a few things that pushed a button or two, but I didn’t say anything that would personally make Dan upset or angry. Like Cole said, after Pho, things were done with…yes the rivalry will be there, however after Pho, I have much respect for Dan. Yes, I challenged Dan as far as his thoughts regarding SF4, and even said that we here have a different mindest then he does…however NEVER did I EVER try to target him as a person or try to be condescending. I like Dan…he’s a cool guy, we may not agree to well in fighting games, but I think it’s bullshit how you come in here once again, and make things personal. We’ve talked in person about our differences, but you just can’t let it go…the personal aspect of a thought/opinion regarding fighting games. You come in here standing up for Dan when really, there was not heat towards him, just a difference of opinion. So I’m asking you as a person Jamie, please stop trying to bring in personal affairs when it isn’t needed.

Next post will regard the actual topic.

EDIT: No response is needed, this is not drama thread, this is SF4 thread, so please, if you would like to talk to me about this, lets settle this as adults, bring it to the pm’s so the thread is not cluttered.

Hey man, your goal is my goal then too! I think it’s pretty tight that the motive is just to compile thoughts and figure stuff out together. I completely agree and think thats pretty admirable.

There was a time when I too was taught by a person who had a very same thought process as you do. Essentially it goes something like this: In situation X, a player should do Y, so that afterwards Z happens. It’s a very “text book” based way of thinking. And to be honest, it’s very efficient as well. However after becoming a bit better, and with a guiding hand through 3 people in our area…I seemed to take upon a very different mind set. The mindset of playing off of a players instincts, instead of playing off of my own logic. I realized that by combining the two, THIS is how one becomes truly great…though this is a topic for another day, the fact of the matter is that I changed myself (well still in the process of changing I suppose) from being an analytical player, to an instinctual player.

I truly do believe that Ryu is in the mid tier status compared to most of the cast…yet again this is a topic for another day…HOWEVER, I do NOT BELIEVE that me thinking Ryu LIMITS my play. Instead, on the contrary, it leads me to believe that I need to think of OTHER ways to beat my opponent, forcing me to think “outside of the box” if you will. To put it in simpler terms, I don’t feel that by me saying that Ryu is mid tier limits my game play at all, instead I feel as if it pushes me harder and challenges me more for the win.

You and I Dan have very different mindesets regarding a match. I go into a match thinking that I can win EVERY TIME…I personally don’t let “this guy is a legend” into my head. I guess it’s like this…Ya know, I’m pretty sure, no almost POSITIVE that Daigo is better then me. However, this doesn’t mean that I don’t think I can’t beat him. On the contrary, I personally believe that I could give some Japanese players a good run for their money…I don’t feel as if I should go into a match thinking “this player is better then me” because I honestly can say I don’t feel this way. And ya know what, Daigo will probably win, however it doesn’t make me think “I can’t beat him…he’s to good.” I refuse to LIMIT myself by thinking this way…It has nothing to do with hype towards myself as a player…it has to do with a mindset that I go into with EVERY MATCH. I don’t feel the need to hype myself up regarding playing a top player, because I personally know, it does nothing…I know my capabilities as a player, and it has led me to believe that I have the ability to beat ANYONE regardless of how good they are. I may not DO IT, but I KNOW FOR A FACT that I CAN WIN.

Dan I think that to push yourself to the next level, you need to start becoming an instinctual player. What this means is playing to a players tendencies and habits…and though I’m sure you DO play like this, I don’t think that you truly VALUE it. By understanding it and knowing how it can make you a better player, it brings an entirely different mindset towards one’s play style. I don’t doubt you or Kenny’s skill, I believe you are both fairly good players, however I do doubt that your ability to play a PLAYER, instead of just the matchup. This isn’t a dis on you or anything, just an idea of how you and I might be able to think a bit more alike. I think that your thinking to analytically right now about how good the Japanese are…when instead, you just need to focus on YOU versus HIM…not the tricks, not the “this beats this,” not the “I can do X when he does Y”…but instead, play HIM. His brain, versus yours. All those analytics will help, but not nearly as much as you’ll see when you start playing a player, and NOT the matchup.

Forgive me for nitpicking, and perhaps misconcieving your intention a bit. However, I would like to say that not everyone works the same way internally as one such as you would in a situation like that. Not everyone needs to have this mindset of no fear to actually do well.

I don’t mean to say that you’re trying to generalize the process by which you internalize the competition between two humans and attempt to make benefit, but it does appear that way.

Basically what I’m trying to say that objectively it doesn’t really matter what your mindset is as long as you do well (or best) against your opponent. People may operate more effectively under certain conditions than others.

Also please forgive me for this one, but when I was reading the discussion earlier, I could easily see how such things could be perceived as personal attacks, regardless of actual harmful intentions. At least most of it worked itself out, but I just thought I’d throw that in.

I posted what I did in response to him because he stated that nerves of steel aren’t enough when faced with someone who’s supposed to be considerably better than you are. While that may be true, it’s only partially true. Talent and overall knowledge play a big part in that naturally but if you come in thinking you’re gonna lose, you’re gonna do just that. It shows in your gameplay. It’s easy for me to tell who’s confident against me and who isn’t. I feel that you can’t have one without the other, and I feel that there are many different things that go into any given SF match honestly. State of mind is simply one of the bigger things in my eyes and I felt he was undermining that. I have played well numerous times and have lost because I didn’t actually think that I could or would win. But you’re right not everyone thinks that way, but I feel that that’s how upsets happen. That’s how people overcome and improve. My post was abrasive towards him as the discussion went along fine until he (and Brent to an extent) posted and stirred up drama that had been quelled for the most part.

But anyway, as far as SFIV is concerned, there’s an interesting thread made by Chunbelievable which I guess had the final console build. He posted some impressions on the new console characters.

Aha! Cool man, I got it now.

Thanks for clarifying.

I’m with Brent, Heavy D, and Kuenai. You guys are HATERS.

Got a bunch of stuff for you SFIV heads to check out. Firstly, here’s a few videos from that CES event in Vegas. The quality isn’t that great, but you can tell what’s going on.

Here are some videos of Seth Killian showcasing some shit with the newer characters.

Rose
Cammy

Fei Long
Dan

Bon appetit!

Hey Dan, is that japanese guy still up in your hood? Would you guys be willing to drive down on planned sat and get some good practice in? Would like to play this guy if he is still around.

Dont think im going to LA for the cali regional but I would like to start doing once a month tourneys for SF4 until our very own NW regional. Hopefully everyone will be more into this and be able to make it. After Feb 17th, hehe its time to start taking this shit to the next level for NW/BC.

Gotta rep hard and dominate at Evo!!!

Cole

I feel like I am missing out on a part of the seattle scene cus I don’t really play SFIV… so I am gonna go in to work tommorow and request the 3 days off that SFIV comes out to try to play catchup.

You are definitely missing out on this part of the Seattle scene my dude…you don’t even really need to PLAY a lot…every once in awhile, once a month if you wil…fact of the matter is that…yeah, you can take that time off and try to catch up, but you just need to know that by playing hella isn’t what we need right now…We just need you in this for debate, another opinion, and a good one at that.

LOL at how much bar Rose gets from an absorb reflect. Yes niggas, THROW PROJECTILES AT ME PLZ!

News from CES is that S-kill was telling everyone Seth is broken and shouldn’t be allowed in tourney… thats of course unsubstatiated but I figured it was worth telling folks.

Other news includes they gave Gen two supers and two ultras for each stance! Dope! and he keeps his launcher cr.Short! sweet.

CES Grandfinals:

Justin Wong vs Joe

There’s speculation about them turning down Sagat’s damage (as there are rumors that they were going to cut the damage down)…but this video shows that the damage has NOT been cut.

Justin’s also saying that Seth is tournament worthy and Gouken is much more broken. Man…just TONS of new speculations after CES!!! Makes me want to plan out my first few days of SF4!

Btw, Dan no reply?

The Japanese player in BC (who is Chinese I think, lol!) Is leaving tomorrow, I got to play this dude and he is a beast! I almost beat his Ryu with Sagat but I kept missing all of my Ultra’s but man I got RAPED by his dictator!

Mike: Yeah I see no changes in Ryu or Sagat damage from the videos I have seen so far. Seth apparently has some cheap ass tools to work with but takes damage worse than Akuma and dizzies like after one big combo, haha. Yeah I heard Gouken is beast also, but to me it looks like there are no changes to the original arcade lineup. I’m thinking that the slight speed increase and the new characters are throwing people off.

EDIT:

that ending was so bomb.

I Know!!! :lovin:

If I was that Dic player, I would be SOOOO mad at myself that I let myself get styled on like that. (Not that I wouldn’t have gotten raped even worse)
